Worked on this really quick while in a meeting. Shhh, don't tell anyone.
quick sketch based off ashley wood's robot work. supposed to be choosing one of the robots to do in 3D but i decided to do this first because painting is painting and i like painting

Blend the furthest robot with the background more. Seeing how dense is the dust here atmospheric perspective should be really noticeable. It's even better to see in the thumbnail - you made him lighter, but you should have added the dust color instead. There's no reason for that slightly blue-ish tint on him. Great job on very subtle losing of detail on them though!
I'm giving myself tonight to get this game prototype FINISHED; the basic site, the graphics, and if there's time, the sound. I've got until wednesday to catch up on documentation and write analyses, so there isn't any time to lose!
It's going to be presented on-location during our degree program open night on a single computer in lobby-type area, so it has to be easy to restart when one person leaves and another approaches. I'll have business-card-style postcards on a table nearby as well.
Here's the latest build with a near-final website.

Pretty cool game, I just finished the demo. The only complaint I have is that it's not really fast enough.
So I want to get in to digital painting. A problem I've hit is that I don't know whether to use 100% opacity/no pen pressure and choose all the colors and blend them manually, color by color.
-Or if I should use lower opacity/penpressure and let photoshop do some of the blending between colors and then pick out the blended color and go from there?
Basically, is it better to work with no pen pressure or with pen pressure? Or is it all preference?

Thanks!
A few people have mentioned the speed; is it due to a low fps that it's too slow or is it the overall layout and whatnot?

A mix. I would pick several colours to create a blocky gradient then use low opacity to blend. The more colours you have in-between the shadow and highlight the nicer it will look after you use low opacity to blend. But be sensible; using 30 different high-opacity colours then blending is taking it too far!
A few months ago the 'never use low opacity' debate was a big thing around here
Frankly, I'd say that if you have the eye for colour and the experience to tell when something looks dull or muddy when it shouldn't, then you can use low opacity all you like.

The character movement I think
It was also a bit difficult getting the feel for the umbrella gameplay as the vents buoy you so slowly, I fell back down the hole like seven times at the end of the demo :v:

Ah yes; it seems that programming slows me right down. I played some quake a day or two ago then tried the game and it did feel very slow; more slow than I had initially experienced it. I may bump everything up a little at a later date
The black hole? =O
I didn't know there was a black hole haha
Perhaps that was just a result of the background not having been fully assembled at that time. It's been updated over the past few hours.
Do you mean that you fell off the fan that you could manually change the angle of? If so then I've made it so that you don't fall far at all and can walk back and try again in literally one second, which should alleviate a lot of the frustration people were having haha
Hah, well it doesn't have to be like Quake. I get that he's an old man after all, and being slow could have some interesting gameplay mechanics tied to it.
And I never said anything about a black hole
And yeah that was the one. It was hardly literally one second either - not that it matters really, frustration at falling isn't too much of an issue if gameplay is fun, and I maintain it could use a speed boost
I like the animations (the way he holds his hat)

Ah no it's been updated; the very final fan where you have to change the angle itself is the one I'm talking about. I altered it so that when you fall you only have to walk to the left a few feet to try again, instead of having to climb steps and ride another fan, etc
Thanks dude!

I like it, though these guys are a bit...undefined, I guess. I mean, their torso and legs look like they're made of mud, not the metal. Some minor details like holes, rivets or may be tubes could make them look way more interesting imo.
the legs are cloth! but thanks. i'm gonna do some cloth studies

So is this just for school or are you gonna make a thing out of it

it's for my art degree and I'm the only one making a game/doing programming so it's like jesus what am I doing this is crazy business
But I may take it further and develop it more. I have a plot drafted out and some designs drawn up for locations and whatnot. But I think after this end of semester sprint I will need some time away from it all before I even think about programming again haha
couple of sketches from life drawing, coloured in photoshop. First one was accidentally scanned on low quality... my bad. Second one is a thumbnail.

Decided I would try some 45 second figure drawings

That was the result
Do longer studies and actually try to concentrate on the form of the body and not the outline.

I don't know how to draw but i made a gift for my girlfriend with this drawing of us attached. Best I could do with a pen lol
Awwww :D
Take it up, maybe you'll be good at it.
It's not very good but:

Read AI's recent post highlighting the necessity of drawing flow lines through the body
He kindly included a post of mine in there which is also relevent
I was a bit into drawing, but I abandoned it. I want to take drawing again. Is there a good course I could follow to get the basic shape, lighting, perspective and composition stuff in my free time?
Short quick poses are great practice though. Don't just abandon them, I usually do about 10 1-minute poses to warm up.
I would like to do some proper tutorials first. otherwise I will just make short unproportional ugly poses

I suggest visiting Ctrl+Paint.com, it's very cool and has more info in a 5-min video than some 60-min ones.

This is what you get when you mess with russian.
