Hey guys, I have a question. Do you think we could make something like this ?
Sketch faction wars, nothing too complex. Would be a fun source of practice

it would take a bit longer to draw rather than take a screen in gmod but it sounds cool

actually it takes freaking lots of time to take decent screenshots unless you are really cool at it. We could simplify too.
But yeah I am not sure if it's possible.
I've been looking around, but I'm having difficulties finding brushes which would seem useful. I know I should probably be productive and continue searching, so sorry if my asking annoys anyone, but what photoshop brush sets do you guys use?
I feel another watercolor-boom abrewin'.
It's nice technically but perspective is way off. It's not very enjoyable (painful) for the eye to watch, I suggest move your island to two thirds of the picture  Never put your focal point in the center.

Thanks! Yeah my main issue with the perspective is those two wharves/piers that come out from the sides. They are perpendicular to our view at the moment and it looks a bit off.

Regarding composition, I have to disagree with you. 'Never put your focal point in the centre' isn't really a rule, but more of a consideration that favours a certain type of composition. With the dark brown/bright golden cloud contrast to the right and the flying ship to the left I think it's made a nice triangular composition. To me it feels heavily symbolic, as though it's in the style of a tarot card or something.

This is probably my quickest thingy yet. I'd like to say that it took an hour to do the original pencil drawing, but I spent another two or so being nitpicky. Coloring took a while, but still, for someone who works as slow as I do, this is pretty quick. Still, it sucks. Hopefully I can mess around with it more and save it.
Any tips on how to improve this?
how'd you get that texture on the eye?
Wasn't going for absolute formal accuracy

Experimentation. I can't even remember what exactly I did.

Hey, sorry I took a while to respond to this, busy weekend. Thanks so much for the detailed critique! This is all really useful and I'll be looking at it when I'm making my next portrait.
You should pretend to be an art professor all the time. :D
I procrastinated a Family Tree project for German class. I have no colored pencils so I used some Crystal Light tea powder that my roommate gave me last week and mixed it with water to color the tree. Thank god it was peach-flavored.
Oh and I used toothpaste for the grass.

I don't think it should've been in the centre either
So do you guys think we could have some kind of epsionage wars?
[editline]29th October 2012[/editline]
Oh man wish I could share all the sketches on this pageking
I looked briefly at that thread and it was a complete shitfight, could you just give the gist of what you want to happen?
Just a heads up to you all; I would be keen to get together with a person or two and do one of those back-and-forth collaborative drawings. It would have to be organised; we'd start with some rough shapes then pass it to the next person in line. We'd set some rules regarding removing/painting over other people's additions, etc.
But I think it'd be neat! I know none of us can promise that we'll 'take our turn at painting' immediately, but as long as we're all getting our version done within 24 hours it should go smoothly!

Well I don't see any shitfight there. People make their "factions" and do some things for them. Deploying troops, picturing various scenes. Sure, mostly battle based. We could have it of some other type, like it's medieval time and everyone gets a "town" and develops it, so you can have not only human drawing practice, but also shape practice, aka while drawing villages or whatever.

Doing one of those at the moment, it's so much fun. Highly recommend
Are you talking about exchanging Steams or something, or making a thread for this?

Well you wouldn't, since you're obviously into whatever it is.
And does that mean it's like some kind of RTS or something, but with no rules? How do you decide the results of things? Is it competitive or is it more like storytelling? Is there a GM? Help me out here

I can't get on steam at the moment, so a thread would be ideal, I reckon

Yes it's a strategy game of a kind. The thread in the screenshots section is not that competetive. You can't eliminate another faction, so anyone decides the result. The main point is cool posing I guess. People seem to enjoy it.
We could make it tacticool and competetive if people wanted really. I myself would love to have such a game to play, because it's always fun to have it game style. Makes it less complex.
It just seems like a waste of time to me as art is concerned, if the main point would be producing cool drawings then it's time better spent on whatever personal pieces you want to produce yourself
There are a million better ways to put together some kind of roleplaying scenario involving art from the players, of that I am sure
So I have this really uncool problem of visiting this thread and other cool sites about drawing and painting stuff but I can't force myself to pick the stylus up and start drawing. I do draw only when I get like a massive burst of will and that happens at random times.

This should be a screenshot of a game proposals. It is a school assignment. I'm not sure if the HUD is good. Maybe you have some advice.
Here's some graphic work I made for my short film that is in pre-production.

oh well then give me an other scenario (no agression)
I don't really want that exact thing so much, I will accept anything of sort. I just want such a scenario so much :(

Everything is the same art style except for the inventory/health. If you made that the same painty style everything else is, it would look a lot better.

I think the building with the bad guy should have smaller windows, because right now they are bigger then the other building, which is much closer to the camera. At first I took that the building on the left is a part of the building with the enemy.

My problem is the same, except the burst doesnt have to be that massive to force me or just happens more often. Yet I start taking my art learning for a work-type activity. That's why I want a game so my brain won't take it that seriously :(

I actually prefer the first one. It's a neat idea how the word looks branded and the attention is clearly on the title.
The perfectly organized, photo realistic casings or whatever on the third one take away from the whole feel of it to me and the title is too subservient to the images.
