Top right reminded me of Nathan Drake, kind of, the shading and composition are really nice looking.

Would like some crits.
Maybe think about redoing the pose of the figure? They look incredibly static bearing in mind there facing a storm (im guessing) But I love it otherwise :)

It's meant to be Nathan, but Likeness is a little difficult to capture
least it reminded you of him, that's close enough haha
Likeness is a little difficult to capture
That's the reason I don't use famous faces for photostudies haha
I'd rather get a believable looking face and an understanding of facial anatomy by working fast and not worrying about absolute perfection rather than getting really anal over the width of the nose and whatnot
practice for a bunch of illustration things i'm gonna be doing soon:

Stylistically its different (quite painterly...maybe?), but you can tell if anything its at least based off the character. Aahh need to learn how to paint properly, Im doing one tomorrow hopefully so ill stick it up here and hopefully people can give me some crit.

Do any of you guys watch ASMR videos on Youtube?
ASMR is a 'condition' where one is sensitive to certain sounds that 'trigger' a period of relaxation or a tingly feeling in the body of varying strength. I tend to get really relaxed, hazy and a bit tingly when certain lecturers with soft, hushed and calm voices are talking. Some people's ASMR is triggered by chewing sounds or the sound of fingernails tapping on objects.
I'm not sure how scientifically viable ASMR is but it's definitely a real sensation.
There's a growing community for creating videos designed to trigger people's ASMR, for instance
I'm thinking of trying to do a video tonight where I'm talking softly whilst doing a digital painting. It'll be a speed paint of course. Is anybody here interested in ASMR and would be interested in a link to the completed video?
Whispering I can understand being nice, but she's stressing me out with her super slow talking :v:
And fifteen minutes of whispering very slowly and playing with groceries, that's pretty fetishistic Maloof!
I have ASMR and I definitely reach a new level of relaxation with that kind of sound.

Have you looked at any of the concept art for the game at all, or any of their release art? It might give you an idea on perspective and shading.
the rabbit mask looks weird, probably the perspective but the ears bother me
on the subject of ASMR some dude posted a video by RRcherrypie which is a dude who makes a bunch of japanese candy. The crinkling wrapping is kind of soothing but I just enjoy watching the guy make stuff

I can't do basic things like make a rocky texture for the ground on the foreground. Fire is a complex thing, so not surprised I can't pull it off cool. This is very very wip, but god dammit, even making that took me quite some time.
Please help me learn.

A lot of people representationally draw fire, meaning the upward spikiness. Just try drawing exactly what you see there. Besides, there isn't all that much fire to lava, small flames that shoot out of cracks and stuff ye, but it's mostly just the bright glow from the lava itself you see.
[editline]8th November 2012[/editline]
take this all with a grain of salt cause I also might be an idiot

Thanks for response :)
Though I am more worried on how to make the rock texture. It's basic and that's why I want to be able to do it first.

Well, you've got your answer right there. If you really want to get stuff detailed or at least make it look like it is, get/make a custom brush. Unless you want to hand-paint every little rock on the picture. Or you can just start with some basic values of different areas and make it more detailed as you go until you're satisfied.
By the way, I think you've got waay more stone and rocky stuff on your picture compared to the photo. You might want to give the lava more space to make it more noticable.
Photoshop seems to be better for a beginner so I just tried switching back to it.
God fucking dammit the frustration! Any way to turn multi level undo on? I got used to removing many lines and going to the history tab every time makes me angry as hell.
[editline]8th November 2012[/editline]
Thinking to pick an art course.
[editline]8th November 2012[/editline]
and god damn it trying to draw on my notebook is frustrating. Man my photoshop toolbar covers half of my screen.
[editline]8th November 2012[/editline]
A better idea seems to screw digital painting and do pencil just because of the small screen.
how do you guys start your pieces? i can't do anything if i don't start with drawing blobby thumbnails until i find a form i like or starting in 3d and using a render as a base to paint over. blank canvases make me nervous on a computer.

Why does this sound fetishistic.

Gawd it's been a long time since I last posted here, probably like a year or so...
Anyways, I did some inking, scanning & colouring a while back and here's the result.
Any c&c? Also, ignore the shadow; it was a rushed attempt to make the character look like it wasn't floating. Overall this was done pretty quickly but I think I did p. good and I'm happy with the result, especially the character/stance.
Will post the original b&w paper illustration if requested. I have also one piece done in the same way in case anyone is interested.
I portrayed Jesus as a Gryffindor for my New Testament class. Not much compared to some of your digital drawings, but you get the point.

The scarf and hat are so nicely rendered but they sort of clash with Jesus.
The scarf and hat are so nicely rendered but they sort of clash with Jesus.
Yeah, I played around with the contrast and layer settings and couldn't find anything smoother that fit exactly with that kind of canvas.

Perhaps you could lower the saturation of the scarf a bit, and change the perspective of the hat?

same
I get into slumps where I just don't know what to paint or even what sort of composition to do
I guess scrolling through my DeviantArt favourites list with all the concept art and crazy landscapes helps throw up ideas
