Bolsa wood I would presume, made part of a castle with it as a kid with my uncle.
A quick thing I did before sleep yesterday. It's rough like hell, but I don't feel like finishing it, so I think I'll just throw it here.

Well, Im not really sure. Ive already heard 2 names of it. Heres the wiki article in german
http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Finnpappe
Basically Pappe means cardboard, so its that I guess. Its pretty dense, easy to cut, so it works well for this kind of stuff. If you really want to do something like this, look around in your local supply store. It feels like paper, has various thicknesses (mine being 3mm) and I really dont know how to describe it. Look at some pictures and I think youll get it

Nobody gave a shit about my last drwing of a hallway. Nobody gave me help when I needed it. Not even dumb ratings, really.
There are two reasons to that: either my work wasn't good enough for you to stop scrolling the page or you just want to make me mad.
Nobody told me how to do crap without textures and custom brushes. So I took the easy road.

[editline]10th November 2012[/editline]
my advice is to stop painting what you think you can see and paint what is actually visible. it looks right now that you're painting as a child does, thinking "grass is green and is made up of blades so i will paint green and then i will paint blade texture". i doubt your photo reference actually shows any of the textures you've painted like that at all
so stop getting hung up on detail and texture. make your paintings read by suggesting what's there and painting the light and the tone, not just your preconceived ideas about texture. in terms of light and tone, your picture lacks it almost entirely. it's like a video game on 'full-bright' where all the shadows are turned off. it's a sunny day so where are the shadows? the grass casts no shadow on the road, the tower thing has very little suggestion of direction of light etc etc
[t]http://fc02.deviantart.net/fs70/i/2012/314/0/1/quick_study_environment_things_by_chestymcgee-d5kldhi.jpg[/t]
now i'm not the best artist in the world at all and i've not taken the best route to learning, but this is an example of more what you should be going for. it's all painted with a single default cs5 brush. there's very little texture that's not made up simply by the way light is hitting the objects. what texture there is completely suggestive and non-realistic but it doesn't matter. look at the grass in the second one; it's very clearly grass (i hope) but i didn't spend hours painting texture into it and individual blades with a dodgy brush. some of the lines in the grass don't even make sense in the real world but it doesn't matter because it still looks like grass
you have to think about what you want to learn from your work. you should be painting the bigger picture right now, understanding the light and the forms of objects and how it all comes together
go practise and have fun. be loose and be easy. dont worry about detail

Well I am sorry for being angry, but I am posting a picture for the second time in 2 days. And it just looks like nobody noticed. And I get mad because I can't continue work until I realise what's wrong and how to do it right.
conceptart.org helps a lot thought since I made a sketchbook there.
I just don't freaking understand how to paint grass wtih a default brush. I tried before I applied custom brushes and it came out like crap. I mean from the angle of view we have on the picture grass is almost flat actually. But it's still not a flat green surface. And it comes out a flat green surface or a mess of green colors when I try to do it with a standard brush.

Daym it's good.
Althought it's not hard to notice that legs are too short. Try to make them the size of 3-4 heads.
Would love to see it colored.
nah bro, I don't do coloring.
About legs
The crotch is the center of the body.
Sounds weird, but its true. Our brains are just wired to take in more information about the upper half.
In reality, the distance from your toes to your crotch is roughly equal to the distance from your crotch to the top of your head.
I think we are just being offensive to midget stalkers right now.
Yeah I had the sense of scale messed up

Dude, no one gave me any crit either, but I didn't flip out about that, just chill out.
If you could post the reference that would help, but judging it as it is Id say that some more shading is needed, particularly on the (is it a type of castle?) central column to make it look more rounded and cylindrical, you also need to set a point for your light source since the shading seems to be a bit all over the place and in some cases non existent. Overall the whole thing looks just way too bright, however, since I can't see the source I cant tell if this is you or if you referenced from a bad picture.
On the plus side the colours are quite nice and I think your working with quite a nice pallet, but I think you need to add more to it. The perspective is also quite nice however, I feel that were the path bumps up at the end should be flat with the hill line instead and to help show perspective even more it might be a good idea to darken (what looks like) the second hill in the background.

I'd say make the feat and head bigger then your good, everything else seems to scale to me. Bring the face out of the hood more as well, that will help give depth to the skull as it looks a bit to shallow at the moment.

I was considering making a "What Should I Draw" megathread sort of deal
Basically a thread for posting inspiring images, links, and videos. For example, I could say "I want to draw some hard surface design" and then people would refer me to pictures from, say, Akira, Hawken, Avatar, etc
Sound like a good idea, or something that will just fall apart after a few days?

Next post will be page king
Sounds like a grand old time. I'd also suggest people look at the community section on Conceptart.org for the Environment of the Week/Character of the Week/etc threads where they post an environment idea for yall to paint

Recorded that ASMR video today. It was pretty weird having to think of things to talk about whilst painting, and I feel that the painting didn't come out as well as I'd have liked. Sometimes a bit of frantic rushing is good to get the work out quickly and prevent one from thinking too much. But I think after I've done a few it'll get easier.
