As requested, drew the whole thing. Took me almost 2 hours. Uh.
the problem with digital painters is that they have no traditional background. First of all the image is lacking in a lot of aspects. Your clouds do not make sense and the same 3 tones are being used, it totally destroys depth and makes your atmosphere very flat. the lay in of the foreground is too flat on the ground, if that is what you were going for, then the trees in the background, perspectively, are massive. Perspective is off. To critique your painting, you're laying in colors but not observing the colors and matching it. Look at how your tower just seems to POP out of the ground, the cast shadow is wrong and the contrast in the back is no where near dark enough. The piece has potential, but you should really try practicing painting traditionally, you'll improve a lot and your mistakes you're masking here will correct themselves out. Overall, good job and keep improving. [editline]14th November 2012[/editline]
Hi it's me again. Still trying out that flow line stuff. I think I'm getting the hang of it. Not really proportionate, but it's a start.
Think of the body in shapes, as opposed to lines which you are doing. Small quick gestures will go a long way to help you block in where something is, how big it should be in relation to other shapes around it. look at my 30 second gestures. Notice how even in scribbles I'm mapping out the forms and shapes even before knocking in the lines? Drawing the body should be like that, drawing in general should be like that. Always think in shapes [t]http://sphotos-h.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/56433_2552601152148_778231009_o.jpg[/t] with that you can start morphing the shapes around to get them into the areas and spaces you need them to occupy. You can then start seeing the space between lets say the spine and ribs, in shapes. It's actually a 1 minute piece, the 5 minute is for the piece below it [t]http://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-snc6/222524_2552636873041_673894111_n.jpg[/t]

They should be going through the body and be loose and sweeping. It's like pre-sketching - making a sort of abstract wireframe of curves on which to build your sketch.

Remember rythm is very important when doing quick gestures. I can't explain it that well, but I highly reccomend you check out Vilppu's books or DVD's on gesture. A poem by me called Oceans Away Hold on to me A raft in the sea Just for you As well as me But you didn't want to stay Now you're oceans away Seperated and lost In this empty sea I await the life ahead Whatever lies for me Don't take life for granted Just hold on to me Sitting in this empty sea That used to belong to you and me What we had is now gone And we are oceans away

Even in contour, you think in shapes. And I've been to a few of Sheldon Borenstein's classes. I'm not saying I'm super good at gestures, I'm just saying even in contour, you think in shapes.

Tried to start a new drawing of a castle from reference. Fuck laptop screens. Having to constantly switch to another window is terrible. Do you think that sketch is totally fucked up in terms of perspective and I need to make another one, or I can continue on that one? My eyes refuse to tell me if it's right. Caught like 6 perspective fuck-ups in it already, and one that can only be fixed by redrawing it all.
i have no clue what is going on there
i have no clue what is going on there
It's a rough plan of the drawing. Nothing is meant to go on there. Couple of ractangular blocks.
i mean the perspective -i have no clue what is going on there
i mean the perspective -i have no clue what is going on there
Oh, alright, have the reference
well first tip would be starting with an easier reference as that one needs much more detail to make the perspective look right
Some WIP sketching practice. Might be doing a full size portrait soon. Can you guess who it is?
Some more experimentation stuff, just taking pictures from gentleman boners and editing them for fun at this point [img_thumb]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/6092109/after.png[/img_thumb] [img_thumb]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/6092109/3.png[/img_thumb]
well first tip would be starting with an easier reference as that one needs much more detail to make the perspective look right
guess you are right. But is the sketch that screwed?
Some WIP sketching practice. Might be doing a full size portrait soon. Can you guess who it is?
Daniel Craig?
Some WIP sketching practice. Might be doing a full size portrait soon. Can you guess who it is?
Is it traced? looks like that to me.
Is it traced? looks like that to me.
No, just done with reference. Should I take that as a compliment? :/
i drew wes anderson and he ended up looking like andrew hussie
there's a competition going on at a t-shirt company for making a christmas-themed video games poster thingy dunno if people might be interested in that. could work for a lot of mediums like illustrator or digital painting or more comicbook-style stuff http://www.gamerprint.co.uk/pages/christmas-poster-competition
Anyone know how to disable Windows' double-tap function completely for pen/touch devices. Already tried disabling the service and all of the options but this: still happens in when I draw in anything like paint/java/flash based stuff.
