Do you guys recommend any stuff besides Loomis? I have a tablet and I used to do gesture drawing so I guess getting back into that and looking into getting into some courses (you can't "take art in highschool" like some civilized countries here) and stuff are the way to go?

You should give those a go aswell when you feel you are ready for it!
so uh, question is 17 y/o too late to "seriously" learn drawing, like take courses or someshit I'd really love to draw (as a hobby and maybe if I turned out to be decent at it something more, I guess?) and digital paint (like, texture work and stuff) and stuff like that, but I feel like it'd be a waste if I started this late.
Just like everyone said, it's never too late. Here maybe i will motivate you, when i was around 17-18ish i started taking interest in drawing again, and i started from the worst possible place ever which was Anime, i even posted one horrible drawing in this section once, but after awhile i dropped the whole Anime drawing thing and just started drawing real life drawings, in this one school i actually got some Academic drawing classes twice a week for like 1h but after a year they stopped those classes since they didn't get enough people going there. Now i'm 20 and i still draw and try to learn how to improve myself more, and i don't go to any classes/courses i'd really like too but here it's impossible to get into any. Here is some artworks from recent days that i can show they are only digital since i'm to lazy to get my scanner and scan some stuff done on paper. Also a side note, some CC on those would be appreciated.

So age doesn't matter at all unless you're about to keel over. I decided to learn to draw about two years ago (with no art anything prior to that), though I consider a pretty large part of that time as wasted due to shitty work ethic etc. Only in the last few months really have I been sticking at it reasonably well, but since I've done so I've noticeably picked up in quality. So it's all down to you really, forget how old you are.
Van Gogh didn't start drawing til he was 27 so there's that I didn't reboot my own drawing work until just after I turned 24 (almost exactly a year ago now) I know a couple artists in my local area between drawing, painting, and photography, who didn't start until they retired and are crazy with what they do. I know a lot more who are clearly just hobbyist, but if you want to advance, there's nothing to say you're too old to start
hey guys, remember my deer? Im thinking about redoing it. In a more "poster-format" than a tshirt thing. Which would be mostly drawing and less photo, although I do feel that I should get some photo in there. Anyway, should I redo it? or is it good for a poster? Im also thinking about redoing my other stuff, since its not being used anywhere now, but Ill get to that later
so it returns
The point of color studies are to help you learn how shadows and highlights effect the colors, saturation, and luminosity of different objects. You should get to the point where you don't need a color picker, but that might be helpful in the beginning in order to understand hue and saturation shifts. I found that pixel art was more helpful than anything I've studied in order to help me understand color theory. Some tutorials http://www.floobynooby.com/ICG/artvalues.html Color theory http://www.handprint.com/HP/WCL/wcolor.html Studying some aspects of pixel can help you too http://www.pixeljoint.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=11299
these are great, thanks for posting them
The large heavily textured brushwork used for most of the piece clashes rather badly with the clear cut relief of that railing and particularly the sign and the text on it. Looks out of place and my eye is drawn into that corner again and again. Those rusty beiges/orange are pretty unpleasent creeping into the nice cool palette of the rest of the work. I'm not really feeling any heat from them either, just ugly. On the other hand the sense of depth is good, and the rendering on the platform under the ship is very nice and metallic. And it almost goes without saying at this stage but the shoddy figure spoils the piece to a degree. Overall though shows great progress. Also I like the space shuttle looking ship. The fire is super half-assed having said that :v:
I sort of get what you mean about the rusty yellows; I'll try to make them more appropriate. Probably darker and more saturated, as though firelight on dark metal I know what you mean about the texture too; I'm painting over the background to get rid of the noise. I'm also revising the sign because it's pretty out of place and I've flipped the image to give a more sensible left-right read [editline]28th November 2012[/editline] Full size
you've probably been asked this before, but what program do you use and what brushes?
I use Photoshop Brushes aren't really all that important, but I tend to use mainly number 36 and number 29 from the standard Dry Media brushes. If I need some randomly placed rough edges I'll take number 39 and add some random to the angle. I have a couple of scattery brushes that I sometimes use, but those are just edits of existing brushes with scatter turned on. Really nearly all of the brushes in my regularly used brush list are just alterations of the standard brushes that come with Photoshop. I have a 'rain' brush with is just a really flat brush with angle set to the direction of the stroke. I have a 'windows' brush that I use for skyscraper windows which is just a square brush with scatter turned on to give a grid-like arrangement of squares.
I'm jealous of your fan club Mal More sketches

You give me an idea, D3TBS; what if we all joined some sort of photo sharing platform and uploaded our self-taken photos under a CC license for others to use as references? We could then post links periodically to new uploads Because frankly I've got some environmental photos from New Zealand where I'm at that I'd be happy to share [editline]29th November 2012[/editline]
I had these photos lying around, decided to make gifs out of the sequences I had.
