This is a bit of a clusterfuck, elements piled all on top of each other, turds flying around in the bg and all within a very narrow tonal range, I have no idea where I should be looking
The blur is very aggressive too

Keeping up with each page is a challenge
I guess if it makes me work faster and looser that's good, only had like a half hour at the end of a busy day today

you know what i've noticed... it's almost like your tablet has no sense of pressure... it's almost like you do these with a mouse. i mean, whenever you draw with a tablet the harder you press the most bold/opaque you get the lines out of it. your stuff is always so, muddy... i don't know.
this really stops you from making great looking rendering no matter how far you're advancing. but maybe that's just me, that's just something i feel from your stuff.

you did some good pieces but now you're back at this lol, it's weird.

some days I have good days sometimes not really
depending on subject matter and the familiarity/unfamiliarity of lighting situations, etc, it can turn out good or not
[editline]2nd December 2012[/editline]
In this one in particular I had trouble because the ambient light is supposedly green, due to it being set in the upper layers of a green gas giant
[editline]2nd December 2012[/editline]
Could you elaborate on 'muddy'? It's such a vague word to use as it can pertain to so many different aspects of image creation
@maloof it's just that i can see where your strokes meet. this shouldn't happen
this just aint true
[editline]1st December 2012[/editline]
i dunno what you mean i can see where your strokes 'meet' in the picture you just posted. i'm confused
noo, i mean... it's hard to explain, seriously, i'm brazilian and i have a pretty limited vocabulary so i can't exactly explain what i mean. but it's like his strokes don't fade away as he puts less pressure on the pen. it's really hard to explain
i guess i know what you mean. where-as your piece looks stylised, maloof's kinda looks like it was gonna be blended but wasn't
i guess i know what you mean. where-as your piece looks stylised, maloof's kinda looks like it was gonna be blended but wasn't
yes! exactly.
yes! exactly.
That's a pretty common way to go about the process though. Put down all the hard color and blend it later where it needs it.
A lot of times if you're blending it too much as you go along, you end up with something too blurry.

that's not what i mean, chesty actually got me. i feel that he has no blending at all, or it's really really rough. and not in the good way of being stylized or just doing fine rendering where it's needed, i feel his pieces lack any (proper) blending at all. and that's because all his strokes seem to have the same pen pressure.
that's what i get from his paintings, but oh well.
Maloof why do you compress your images as a lower quality jpg? Use imageshack or myfolio if imgur compresses your images down.

Hey, are my big brush strokes a good or a bad thing? I can get a bit too impressionistic at times...
they're certainly better than having a zillion tiny brush strokes
A stupid video me and a friend made in between shoots of our actual film, using professional equipment and software.
As an indie film group, we like to have fun. That's the whole point of what we do. So when two members of the group are hanging out one day, and boredom abounds, something stupid usually happens. This time, we actually filmed it. It was a mix of my, and Dominic Zamorano's (COPY PANTS, What's in the Case 1&2, Burn), ideas. It's good to have a little fun in between shoots of our more serious work. We realize that this is probably only funny if you know the guy, but trust us, he's funny.
Spent a little time this last week to do some personal work. Decided to just update a blog instead of DA, if you guys are interested at all, I'll be posting most of my stuff on here: http://kepperart.blogspot.com
This one was really an experiment that took over. I think I'll keep working on it though, any helpful critiques or suggestions would be appreciated.

Welp, I don't really draw detailed clothing so I thought I'd go outside my comfort box and test some stuff, might do head later.

I understand what you mean
I don't actually tend to use the pressure settings a lot these days; I just don't really find a use for them
With the above image if I was gonna take it further I would maybe have worked the background more to add depth and make it look prettier. Thanks for bringing the current non-ideal texture that it has to my attention!
I initially thought you meant it was my actual tones that were off; I had a bit of trouble figuring out how to light the scene with the green ambient light haha

Wow. This has a lot of scale to it, the vastness of the visible landscape works brilliantly. The barren desert to verdant plain transition makes it look very schizo, and the smoke looks very solid to me, not to mention a bit excessive. The foreshortening falls down on the second group of figures, they don't really resemble people being that wide.
Compositionally I'm not sure, it feels like there's a whole lot going on and little direction to it - Like there are several smaller pieces in there demanding attention, all packed into one big picture.
Overall it's got a really ambitious feel to it, and I like the narrative element too. Impressed with this.
Maloof why do you compress your images as a lower quality jpg? Use imageshack or myfolio if imgur compresses your images down.
I didn't think they were compressed at a visible amount; I save as a quality 9 JPEG then upload to DeviantArt and simply link to that image.
Looking closely now I can see a little bit of artifacting; I guess I sit a little further back than most so I don't really see these things
I might try a couple of different upload sites. Thanks!

[editline]2nd December 2012[/editline]
I was on ConceptArt.org earlier and I saw that people were doing master studies - replicating the work of traditional painters
I might do some if I find the time.
I initially thought that this wouldn't be a good idea, because it seems the general opinion is to look at the world and paint that to get a sense of real-world light physics and what not. But I'm quickly realising that it's very hard to get the same idealised/cinematic lighting in the real world with which to produce photostudies
