Thick outlines will flatten everything you do, and crappy cell shading will only reinforce that
[editline]9th December 2012[/editline]
I've done a few sketches without reference, and ever though they're pretty dodge I'm still more proud of them than any of my rendered worked-through shit. Starting to draw out of my head instead of relying on refs feels pretty great.

Ignore the middle and left ones they're nothing

For a painting a friend wants me to do, we ended up settling on something else though.
Did other things that weren't dragons but I thought it best to group them.
I have been playing a lot of Dark Souls lately, that may be apparent in my art for a bit.
For my Visual Fundamentals class, I had to do my first attempt at making a person in illustrator. All I've done up until now is logos.
The Result:

Any good Y/N?
I think putting more time into defining features like eyes would be a start
Yeah, I couldn't get the eyes right. The reference photo was a little low-quality, so they were all pixelated and blurry. I just kinda improvised.
I've never been good with drawing people. v:v:v
Would someone here be willing to do me a huge favour? A friend of mine has her birthday coming up soon, and I was hoping one of you artistic geniuses could whip up something relatively simple for me.
Pretty much just a picture of a female egg (I know, it sounds ridiculous) with a little red bowtie in her hair, and then a male egg beside her with a stethoscope in his hands. If anyone could do this for me, it'd mean the world. I'm hoping to print it out in card-format for her birthday card.
If you're interested in helping me out, PM me so I can send you a few photos for reference :v:
I'd even be willing to throw $5 or $10 into your PayPal for doing this for me.
PS: It's an inside joke between us (the eggs), and I know it'd mean so much to her. I just can't draw for shit, and I think it'd make a great card for her.
Anyone? Her birthday is coming up in about 2 weeks.

Same... I know for a fact it'll be the best thing ever. I just wish I could do it my self, but I suck so bad at anything art-related.

Fixable.
Basically if you can draw at a moderate level of technique you get chicks.
Add playing a musical instrument and you get all the chicks.

I doubt she'd get it and say "THIS CARD LOOKS HORRIBLE I HATE YOU"
It's all about the content and thought behind it. It could look like a pre-schooler made it, but I'm sure she'd love it.
But if it looked really good, it'd be so much better. To be honest, if it comes down to it, I'll try drawing it myself. But it wouldn't look as good :v:
I'm not very good at this. Especially with mouse.

You draw metal materials really well imo
rikimaru6811 is honestly a saint. PM'd him asking him if he could add eyelashes, and he did. Every reply he made was awesome and down-to-Earth. He's such a decent guy.

This is funny, but it way overexplains the joke. The first panel is fine, each additional panel makes it less funny

He sat behind his keyboard. White light played across his face as the world scrolled past,
every roll of his finger calling forth another glowing inch. He sighed.
It would be so easy, he thought, his window slowing and hovering over a particularly interesting
chunk of text, so easy to ban everybody and be done with it. Empty the drains out and play alone
in the quiet. But then who would there be to torture but himself?
He read for a moment, keen eyes scrutinising the text for anything that could condemn this person.
A hint of racial prejudice, the briefest spark of fire. But there was nothing; it was another model
citizen.
A piece of paper taped to the monitor called to him. The longer he forced himself to look away
the louder it called, until his head was wrenched around by shame and guilt and his eyes locked
until the handwritten words had burned themselves into him. 'QUOTA'.
A fear slithered quietly into his mind, poking and stroking and whispering dark things until his
skin was swimming in a cold sweat. He reached for the light-switch, the darkness now too
horrifying, too deadly to be alone in. With trembling hands he clicked his inbox. Empty.
What should have relieved him only deepened his terror, forcing his head further down
into the burning-cold water. He gasped for air, instinctively throwing open the reports list,
searching franticly for something, anything. He scrolled, faster and harder and with more
desperate hope than he ever had. And then he found it. A handful of links, just a handful;
but the most glorious handful that ever was.
He collapsed, fell headfirst onto the keyboard and sobbed gently, softly, smiling. One by
one he opened the links, and in each he wrote the sentence that would deliver him safely;
to rule his little kingdom for another little while.
'Not a LMAO pic'.

Thanks! :D
I like drawing metals because you can just go crazy with the contrast and light/dark patterns, so I don't have to just make boring old gradients. I would say it's even pretty hard to screw up once you get the gist of it.
