Well, just finished the character, time to battle the background!
those black places look absolutely horrible. I am not even going to explain why, you should know better.

[editline]19th February 2012[/editline] Chestymcgee wrote a thing about it awhile ago http://www.facepunch.com/threads/1051405?highlight= Some pictures don't work anymore though

Thank you all again for the cc, I think I know where to improve next :] I cropped it, and i think it foils out the character more:
ddg's rat.

Nice work! but it looks rather muddy, it would help to use more confident and harder/darker brush strokes. Still I like the cactus one :v: And a protip if you're going to post this on DeviantArt: Adding eyes onto anything, pageviews and dozens of favourites guaranteed.
its not for the RA comic, im just tired of drawing deers.
What about Zee Captain?
Pilot reminds me a lot of Psycho Mantis
I dont really like the captain :/
You've gone with a pixelised form but all of the lines and outlines destroy that by filling spaces that are less than one pixel wide. You don't get 'half pixels' (not really). The reason it doesn't look amazing is because you've got all these half-pixel-wide lines that break the otherwise pixelised image.
I was never aiming to make it actual pixel art. That's why it's comprised primarily of sharpie width lines. As for the half grid border, that was because the sharpie line looked quite poor, but a full grid thickness was too overwhelming. I am planning to continue exploring this style, so I'll take that on board though.
Nice work! but it looks rather muddy, it would help to use more confident and harder/darker brush strokes.
Thanks for the tips, art teacher once said that to me too, I just can't get it right with confident shading :/
Just some very rough WIP I'm working on
it's almost like you treat humans as hard surface
Just some very rough WIP I'm working on
he's standing very awkwardly, it's almost like he's not properly proportioned too.
Sorry for the immensely unrefined image. I created this pose from imagination so i'm quite happy with it (there is probably a ton of anatomical errors) but I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions to emphasize the gesture. He's going to wield a shield in the direction hes facing while holding a sword in the other hand. At the moment he looks like a ballerina though. I want to give some power to the shield holding hand.

confidently tripping over face first
Hmm i'm going to make his right foot flatter to the ground, thanks
he's standing very awkwardly, it's almost like he's not properly proportioned too.
Well, I'm not pretty sure about proportions, but as for me, his pose is quite natural. At least, I often stand like that :D

the balloon says light is coming from the top left but the cactus says light is coming from the top right no wonder they're not hugging
