Something I did today for my senior project and as a test for coloring in Photoshop; first time, so yeah. :/
[t]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/14329594/NAMMCCULLEN.jpeg[/t] I tried to do something with the shading, didn't turn out the way I wanted it to.
:I [editline]26th February 2012[/editline] I didn't wanna go all out and invent the wheel again, I have never touched paint before and doing something I was familiar with was hard enough.
I guess I get that. I knew I'd get a bad reaction when I posted that, but fuck tiptoeing around people, you know I'm not trying to "battle" you, or get on a bandwagon with anyone else concerning your art, it's just my opinion that naturally occurred to me. I'd like to see you branch out, not because I'm sick of seeing you draw a similar set of pretty boys, but because oils afford new ways of thinking and working and as someone who enjoys what you do I would like to see the kind of thing you would produce if you jumped in at the deep end as it were. Also you sound like a broken record about this girls thing. It's not like everyone is doing similar work to everyone else in that department, and anyone who is only doing the same type of thing over and over should change it up, regardless of subject matter. Teshok springs to mind, he only draws samey action chicks and I have no desire to see any more of them.
I do draw diffident stuff, its just that I have a preference like anyone else here. Are you seriously ignoring all the other stuff I draw? [editline]26th February 2012[/editline] I seriously don't see the problem.
it feels more like pretty boys are kinda what most people see and make the biggest deal out of, and to offset that you'd have to draw more of other things.
I honestly don't see why anyone has a problem with what you're drawing. It's your choice what you draw, other people should accept that.
I don't think you actually believe that to be the reason, but ok; http://www.gimp.org/downloads/

I subconsciously expected you to do something new and radical or abstract or something when you got the oils Not gonna lie, I'm pretty disappointed to see that character appearing again instead
Holy shit do you have to act like a self-righteous cunt 24/7? It's not just here you post like that either, I've seen you post fucking horribly everywhere else. First off, gee I don't know maybe he doesn't feel like he can give it justice by colouring it himself, or doesn't have a tablet or good mouse skills. Second, instead of giving it real criticism you just instantly attack the fact she's been drawing that one character a lot recently. God damnit just shut up and be helpful for once. [editline]26th February 2012[/editline] I feel like I'm overreacting a bit but you really need to sort it out.
What's wrong with "pretty boys" ? I don't get it.
they lack boobs
Anyone wanna give me some cc on this wip? Still gotta do the glasses and stuff
Composition of the text is off; title placement should be rethought, tagline 'I simply respect the chemistry' is too tightly bordered above and below [editline]26th February 2012[/editline] You've got a very outward-pointing composition with Walt looking straight at us and the title text is extruded upwards to give a 3d effect - I dislike this dual perspective applied to different elements
Anyone wanna give me some cc on this wip? Still gotta do the glasses and stuff
i feel like it needs more intricate detail in the blank space around the breaking bad logo
The whole composition needs thinking about You've got a big, chunky space either side of the round-bottle-thing but at the top you've got a teeny tiny space. Feels really tight and uncomfortable. Text at the bottom is too close to the outside of the poster. Almost falling off the edge. Can't help but thinking that the bottle-neck sticking out the top of Walt's head looks a bit strange. Focal point (I'm taking it as being his forehead, given that's where the most contrast is) is too high up in the image.
yeah
how is this pic? is it better from what i have posted before
Beautiful. E: btw, thanks maloof, I'll work on fixing it up a bit but I'm not good with text and whatnot so I don't really know or see anything wrong with how it is right now at least, but I'll see what I can do. Im gonna see if a different shaped bottle would work better. Also, nice painting Detlef, its really nice for your first time with oils (I suggest you try acrylics too btw).
Guys, guys, I found a red Sharpie pen. Shit just got real. [t]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2319552/Lump.png[/t] [t]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2319552/RedScare.png[/t] [t]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2319552/TerynItUp.png[/t] Just been doodling over the night, getting used to the scribble tactics. I really want to get some Microns. Sorry for the shit images btw, first two I saved wrong and it scaled them horribly.

[editline]26th February 2012[/editline] I feel like I'm overreacting a bit but you really need to sort it out.
Why so serious First off, finding out if there's a legitimate reason he doesn't want to try it himself is the first step to putting him on the path to being more artistic. Give a man a fish and he'll eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he'll never go hungry. Plus, a man can speak for himself. Second, I wasn't attacking her, over that or over anything. I wrote a second, mediating post to try to explain that. In the end, if you want to read me like a cunt and say I'm never helpful or out to get everyone, it's your problem. I don't try to get anyone riled up. Hell, I've thought you're a pretty shitty poster from what I've seen of you in the past as well, but you're not some troll or anything, so I really have no reason to care or say anything about it. It's not as though it inconveniences me in any way. Peace and love and shit [editline]26th February 2012[/editline]
how is this pic? is it better from what i have posted before
At the moment there's too many things wrong with it as compared to a person in proper proportion and perspective to give much feedback beyond "study anatomy". Go grab a reference photo of a person (full body) and try to replicate it. Let it be as rough as it comes out, and don't use any colour. Post your result after a couple of tries and there'll be a lot more to work with for us to help you get better. At the moment everything is stylised and symbolic, so you should move away from that, start using your eyes and trying to draw in three dimensions.
they lack boobs
penis penis penis
Why are we getting mad over each others drawings again. I don't really understand it.
cause that's how some people think critique works

I like that Mal Anyway, here's part 1/15 of a series of drawings I gotta do in the next week. I think I'm in trouble.
TEEN DEER oil on canvas, 16X24 Some proportions are off, but they were kinda hard to fix :I [editline]25th February 2012[/editline] might not be done yet I dunno
I would definitely love to see some more work on this. To me it looks like it's a very basic painting - Not a bad thing, but I'd love to see some more contrast and play on colored lighting, maybe letting the background color bounce a reflection off on the skin? I also think you could make the edge between the background and character much sharper. I assume you're trying to make the background interact with the shape of the antlers, maybe this would be something you could experiment more with? I kinda see potential for a realistic/art deco/surreal sort of background foreground interaction with some more intricate patterning and detailing. I know oils is a bitch to handle, so maybe you should paint the closer details with another medium, like acrylics. I don't have much experience with mixing these but I know it's possible as long as you think about what you're doing.

(he signed a doodle) [editline]26th February 2012[/editline] (that has very little on it) [editline]26th February 2012[/editline] It's kinda obvious you used the smudge tool a LOT with the shading which is a big big nono

not sure what but the composition is off in some way, it may be the grim in the top left being too far up or something, but everything looks really disconnected and fuzzy the shading also suggests a super diffused yet compact light source coming from behind the viewer
I duno [editline]26th February 2012[/editline] I have stopped taking shit from people who disagree with what I draw, I have been battling this with you guys for a year now, and I'm growing tired of it. My art is varied, but it seems like every time I do something that is only for my liking, someone has to comment on it. Wouldn't it be funny if I disagreed every time anyone here drew a pretty girl, because jeez, people seem to be doing that a lot. But I guess that's ok. Girls are hot right [editline]26th February 2012[/editline] right down your alleys
I would like to say that mako was being too blunt and rude, but what the fuck detlef. You're sounding like one of the monthly newbies we get that always gets butthurt at critique, you are better than that. No one is giving you shit, your work is NOT VARIED in the subject of anatomy and for you to say "oh the only reason is because it is guys" is bullshit. I could give less of a flying fuck if it has a dick or a vagina, it is about growing as an artist and if you expect to get through art school just painting the same god damn dudes then you are in for a rude awakening. So to be honest, I have stopped taking shit from you who can be extremely rude in your critique, then you cover your ass whenever someone makes a similar critique towards you, saying they are attacking your work. Start working out of your comfort zone and learn different body types as that is the only way youre going to grow as an artist. For you to simply say "no, you guys are wrong, my art is varied" is the most self righteous and ignorant thing you have ever said in my eyes and it takes away all sympathy you could have gotten from me. So stop bitching, and use the great potential you have and GROW. http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=174792 Here is a link with 3 oil tutorials that will help improve your work, you can read them or totally disregard this post, I could give less of a damn now after you pulled that fit.
cool then, because I dont give a shit what you think about me, so I guess we are at eye level. thanks for the links.
you two sound like those people on da who are "you critisied me omg but im totatlly going to pretend that i dont care!"
