I'd love to try to make it look translucent, but I would have no idea how. [editline]15th March 2012[/editline] And I'd like to make it a bit more slime-y and monster-y.
Know any good tutorials for this stuff?
Don't turn to tutorials when the thing you need to work on is everything. Look at a picture of a naked person (or someone who is willing to sit naked for you for long periods of time, if you're so lucky) and draw from that. Don't go for perfection, try to keep loose and flowing. Also try to work all the way up and down the body, E.G don't start by drawing one foot in detail and then proceeding to each subsequent body part. Post your resulting drawing here, and we'll be able to tell you all of the things that are off/how to fix them. Plus when you're working from a photo reference in particular, you can see where you've gone wrong for yourself. Then it becomes a matter of practice. Check my post at the top of this page for online anatomy references. Try looking at some of Lord M's digital work, he was very good at making everything look shiny and slippery as fuck. [editline]15th March 2012[/editline] And I'd like to make it a bit more slime-y and monster-y.
Okay, this will require you to understand some things. The best way is through research! Check out how many different shades of blue that fin contains. If you search for veiltail, fantail fish or longfin you'll get similar results like this picture and they can help you understand what your possibilities are. Now I'm using an image that seems entirely irrelevant, but notice her veil. As it layers the color intensity is heightened and that's important to use when you want to paint something that's supposed to look translucent. If you have trouble with different fabrics you should touch them, study them, notice how they fold, how light and shadow falls, check if they are translucent or not and what texture they have. If you're a student then you better get to work on these things. And here is something important to remember: Clouds are not white blobs, black fish are not black blobs, red sweaters are not red. Everything is affected by light and the color of the environment. A green shirt will have orange and yellows if the guy wearing it is near a bonfire. You are at a point where you need to stop thinking in icons and start observing and breaking down every object surrounding you.
Not this Lord M, I hope?
No indeed He painted the picture I posted above. His latest FP acc is !LORD M! I think.
lord m's old deviant art is http://brainghost.deviantart.com/ but he vanished for several years, both there and on FP When he came back a few months ago, he made this account for that pony picture but hasn't added anything since http://andromonoid.deviantart.com/ looks like you'll find better recent work in his sketchbook thread. We gotta bug him about maintaining a proper updated portfolio http://facepunch.com/threads/1147591

So i got a tablet yesterday. I have practiced a bit, i haven't drawn anything for like 4-5 years, so i am a bit rusty. The only problems i have is coloring my drawings and perspectives. Can someone link me to some good explaining websites or something? Would help me a lot! [editline]edited[/editline] I will post some stuff later.
A little song i made. Ukulele, layered vocals and reverb.
Personally i think it needs a bit more music. Other than that i enjoyed it!
I want to start seeing your work again.
I've been doing a lot of self-teaching and observational work off to the side the past three months, and kind of avoiding facepunch as a whole because I know I get sucked into it easily and don't get anything accomplished. have an animu sketch I'm drawing for luafox, worked off a real model figure reference and that just made doing an anime head all the harder. Haven't done animeanime stuff in years, and I think that's a good thing. her left leg still bugs me, and the face was terribly wonky but it's kinda coming together at this point. [t]http://i.imgur.com/JTsnk.png[/t] also the program Paint Tool SAI is awesome and I feel all derpy trying to even navigate around photoshop after getting used to the shortcuts and general controls. At the moment I'm pretty much out of a job due to a long-time client of mine buying out my home business doing 3D work then not hiring me in like the plan was (they only took my dad), though I may get in with them yet. Wrote up a huge rant about that in a different thread because it was related to past troubles with the arch firm and their dink of a photographer, big read but it sheds some light on what I've been doing as of late. http://facepunch.com/threads/1092039?p=35143013&viewfull=1#post35143013 tl;dr on drawing though, I've spent the last three months (after three years of just plain out not drawing anything seriously) re-building my skills in digital painting and selling off my services doing commissions for dirt cheap just to float me by on the short term.
A little song i made. Ukulele, layered vocals and reverb.
ukuleles own, what is yours?
Might not be much improvement, but I'm gonna leave it at this. I need to draw 5 others. [editline]15th March 2012[/editline] Oh man, imgur raped the quality.
Lol small world indeed. Anyho, I know how much of an ass this assignment is so I think your doing a good job anyway. I think the white white background kinda forced you to use a lot of black or dark in it, maybe switch it to a darker background so you can reveal a bit more instead of hiding it :V Ruben will bitch at you anyway hehe. But nice job so far, its all spooky lookin.. and ga1a better go easy on us when we have to present it to em.

I got front paged on Newgrounds again :Y For a picture I submitted two months ago.
So i dont know if this exactly belongs here, but i guess it is creative work. This is my first ever plastic plane model i am building, and looking forward to being my hobby as i am in love with airplanes. It is a 1:72 scale spitfire MkVb. Took me around 5 hours to put it all together, with dry cement and go over with some grey coating. Paint job is up next. just started like 10 or 15 minutes ago [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/rN9a9.jpg[/img_thumb] What should I consider before I get too deeply entrenched in it?
What should I consider before I get too deeply entrenched in it?
Composition probably
Agreed. Unless there is a reason to have the wake of the boat taking up most of the space it may not be ideal. If it were me I'd show the place the boat left from - the image then becomes about looking back at the place rather than the adventure ahead.
Composition won't be a problem, the hull of the ship will guide your eye to an exploding/burning ship in the background.
What is skin colour [editline]17th March 2012[/editline] I can't help thinking that the shadows are far too saturated
That blood red shadow is too saturated whilst the shadow around the breast is too desaturated. Your skin colour seems a bit too yellow as well, tilt it more towards the red spectrum. You also do the shit I tend to do with the shading, you're shading it like a gradient. Don't do that, it kills every and all forms and shapes, the arm becomes flat and unpleasant to look at. Highlights are highlights because they are visibly much lighter than the base colour, just like shadows are shadows because they are visibly darker than the base colour. If you gradually make it darker and darker, there is no contrast and thus no shadows or highlights because it's just just the same in gradually shifting tones.
