her facial features are very pointy, to start at something.
[editline]21st March 2012[/editline]
especially her nose, it looks like a triangle.
Heh, yeah, you're right. When I sketched it her nose was just a triangle.
Thanks, I'll try making it more organic-looking tomorrow.

Something is seriously off with her face but I have a hard time figuring it out. Can someone help me figure out what needs fixing (on her face specifically)? It'd be appreciated.[/QUOTE]
The character in general looks very mechanic. It looks like someone posed a doll or something.
When I'm drawing buildings and stuff when they're almost facing me, is there a way to figure out where the vanishing point is without getting twelve other sheets and drawing straight lines?

girl with horns, I can post the process if anyone is interested.[/QUOTE]
Superb stuff detlef, the hair could maybe do with some more detail?
yeah quite a dull pose, pretty much completely neutral facial expression
seems a bit flat too, well not exactly flat but its hard to tell the direction everything is facing. the 3 dimensional aspect just seems a bit confused

Nice, how long have you been working on it for?
i dont remember if anyone talked about this before, but how can i make nice smooth brushstrokes on a tablet?

The picture itself, about 20/45 minutes. But the idea was given to me while watching Cowboy Bepop with one of my friends. I doodled something rough on a piece of notebook paper, then the today I started on that.

The droplets look great, but the horns are sort of flat all the way up to the top where they become 3d, and it doesn't feel like they're properly growing from her head. Even though I see you placed them in the first stage of the piece in progress, they look like an afterthought. I guess I would move them more forward on her head and have them disturb the flow of her hair more visibly. Generally very cool picture
pretty done with it

I would lose the signature. Particularly in that format, it's very unusual and bad
it ruins the atmosphere
[editline]22nd March 2012[/editline]
and the focal point
turn it black and white, add huge, floating cat eyes in the empty space to either side of the tree, replace the signature text with something that sounds like perfume. Sell your product like a madman.
it actually felt like an advertisement for some kind of big budget miniseries or something at first glance (with the signature), though looking back it does stand out rather oddly as JUST a watermark/sig.
If it were part of the composition, it'd be fine... I think with the text (maybe a font tweak?), that would make a kickass cover image for a portfolio

A few things to consider when painting smoke.
-Be sure the light source is well defined, judging by the front ship it's coming from the top right, so the highlights of the smoke should reflect that.
-Smoke rolls and billows, giving it a distinctive 'bubbling' shape. An easy way to think of it is as a bunch of spheres intermingling with eachother. You can paint this by painting circular shapes, then adding some value (according to the light source) and keep layering them on top of each other.
-Don't use the smudge tool, all it does is make your stuff look muddy and amateur.
Quick example of what I'm talking about
[t]http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/1676/exampple.jpg[/t]
was trying to give it a high schooly feel instead of a satanic feel

That's more like a homemade sweater or a sign on a hut or hotel out in the forest.
I think adding the stripes to the antlers really overdoes it as well.

really? i dont get that at all
I think it has a nice high school feel that I want for the teen deer comic.
I really don't see the association to high school at all.

Reminds me of composition notebooks and sharpies
well dgg, maybe you're wrong.

Childish much?
How could he even be wrong about the impression something gives him as an individual
Aside from that I happen to agree, the deer logo is mirrored and the Es are copy-pasted, so it doesn't look hand-drawn or anything
I'm just saying I thought it looked high school-ish, and I think that counts for something.
[editline]22nd March 2012[/editline]
and even tho it's not entirely high school inspired, I think it fits the theme I have on tumblr.
