what's so funny :/
Can't tell if it's boy or a girl. My bet on a boy disguising as a girl
sameface
what's so funny :/
The hair kinda looks like a hat and it also seems like the bra isn't on properly
what's so funny :/
Well first of the whole fact that you even drew a character from Black Rock Shooter. Then there is the whole manface. There is really nothing feminine about the face, the closest you get is what seems to be eyeliner.
The face isn't the problem, the head is too big.
damn Detlef that snip
It wasn't THAT bad
No need to snip it. It's not terrible.

what's really bugging me about that piece is the flatness of the face. it's like it was painted onto an oval piece of cardboard other than that, i don't understand how the sword is resting on anything and i'm not at all sure what the dark line is going down her(?) chest and abdomen from the sternum. in the thumbnail it looks like she(?) has massive boobs that sag down really far but then she's(?) wearing a bra thing?... so the boobs are coming out from under the bra? or there aren't any boobs at all and it's just a weird scar or something. i'm so confused rim-lighting on the right boot and leg implies that the light is coming from underneath her to me. but maybe i'm wrong on that. maybe the floor reflects a light from off-screen or something, i'm not sure anatomy looks messed up perhaps, like the legs would be absolutely giant if she was stood up. maybe this is the style i dunno. no sign of a knee either... but then the face has no bones either so maybe this is a style thing i dunno edit: the amount of times i've said "i dunno" or "i'm not sure" is probably a good indication that this piece is very confusing
Hey detlef can you try iunno drawing some of these it'd only help [t]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8702336/Art/Art_Storage/Tutorials/re.png[/t] [t]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8702336/Art/Art_Storage/Tutorials/Untitle31.png[/t] [t]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8702336/Art/Art_Storage/Tutorials/Untitled1.png[/t][t]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8702336/Art/Art_Storage/Tutorials/Untitled5.png[/t] [t]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8702336/Art/Art_Storage/Tutorials/Untitled.png[/t]

It looked like she had big boobs coming out from under her bra or something That's the only real issue I saw right away. No need to go all snippy.
Does "creative work" include short stories? Whatever, here's a super-short story I just wrote. [release]An Unfortunate Parallel Two decades ago, she gazes into his intense azure eyes, and he into hers. They embrace in a moment she wants to last forever, trapped in his strong, radiant warmth. Two years from now, she stares blankly out the window into the hazy morning sky. The window is fogged with the cold air of a place she still refuses to call home. Two months ago, she glances about nervously while a man digs into a heavy black case and removes it to present it to her. It gleams with the harsh incandescent light of the room. She quickly places an envelope of cash on the counter and snatches it up. Two months from now, she surveys her small apartment, finally settled and furnished. She turns the thermostat up and absent-mindedly settles into a cushioned chair. Two hours ago, she paces madly through the house. He's late. Again. She returns to the bedroom, into the hidden drawer, and checks to see if it's still there. Two hours from now, she carries a small, dark blue suitcase to the front door. Her taxi is arriving as she steps out the door. Two days ago, she examines her handiwork in the mirror. Several layers of makeup render the dark, purple hue nearly invisible. Two minutes from now, she wipes the tears from her eyes and drops a few sets of clothes into a suitcase. She packs it under the clothes, at the bottom of the bag. It seems to weight the case down with two thousand pounds. Two decades from now, she removes it from its hiding place. It's a cool, unsympathetic weight in her hands. The metal feels a few degrees colder than even the damnably frigid air. Two seconds from now, she stands over him as he clutches his chest. Tears stream from her face, a torrent of emotion she can't dam up. Two minutes ago, he screams violently, and bursts through the bedroom door. He slams the bottle into the doorframe, shards of glass exploding to form a cruel, familiar sight. When he sees it in her hands, he looses a yet wilder roar. Two seconds ago, she pulls the trigger. Two decades from now, she pulls it again.[/release]
thats amazing
Just some drawings I did. I've been doing a lot of digital doodles lately, so I wanted to get back to using pencils and pens.

I think that might have been the first time I've seen someone snip something from a "creative" thread.
repost because it was at the bottom of the old page :c
dick.
bro :c <3 also thanks black sash for the inspiration hue huehuehuehue
[t]http://th08.deviantart.net/fs71/PRE/i/2012/085/d/f/think_with_portals__by_chaplinsolus-d4u0klv.jpg[/t] I love drawing those vine thingies, they bring peace to my soul. Shit, just realized how lazy everything but the vines look. I wish you could erase ink.
[img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/UXhDD.jpg[/img_thumb] Made in January I think.
I'm still working on that battleship with the other one blowing up in the background, and I've fallen out of the habit of checking the thread so much that I didn't see the critique about the smoke until just now. In any case, I was reading about James Cameron descending into the Marianas Trench, and this composition just flashed into my mind. Bout an hour, still a work in progress.
Sorry for being dumb but is that just pencil on some tinted paper? It's awsome! :D
Thanks! Yes, it's pencil, but it's actually just on white paper. I think it was just the lighting of the photo that made it look sepia.
Changed it up a little bit [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/rb1Oi.png[/img_thumb]
I have a lot of ideas, things that I want to draw but can't because no reference exists. I am at the absolute base in terms of artistic talent, and was wondering what the "proper" place to start learning is?
snip nevermind.
What, why'd you snip?
I have a lot of ideas, things that I want to draw but can't because no reference exists. I am at the absolute base in terms of artistic talent, and was wondering what the "proper" place to start learning is?
It really depends, if you want to draw anything with a human figure in it, then a good place to start would be to study anatomy and draw human parts until you get it. If you want to draw plants, then carefully look at the shape of leaves and such until you get it. Try breaking these ideas you have into small components, and to study each individually until you can effectively put them together without using anything but your imagination.
There is no proper place to start learning
How to start drawing: (for me, may not apply to everyone) 1) Draw. Realize you suck, figure out why. Don't shy at criticism. Also study great art and see what they do right. 2) Try again, using everything you've learned from studying why you suck. Okay, it probably still sucks. But it's a massive improvement. Figure out why that sucks and keep going. Repeat cycle until good. It actually works surprisingly quickly, if you're observant, aware and ask people to criticize harshly. The last page I posted two Liara paintings and one of a Cabaret woman. They're not great, but they are only the 8th-10th paintings I've painted. Before I got a tablet not long ago the only thing I really drew or painted were shitty doodles at school. So for me this method works very clearly. I genuinely hope it helps you too.
