You choose to design an existing design Are you sure you were suppose to just pick something to copy? seems pointless as fuck as far as design process goes [editline]31st March 2012[/editline] @ Khaos
I was avoiding showing the reference, to expose how inaccurate I really was. I do now realize that feather looks very strange, not too sure how I missed that before. Also I didn't get the general shape of the bird right, it seems too stretched. But here it is anyway: [thumb]http://imgs.mi9.com/uploads/animal/4101/mountain-blue-bird_1680x1050_69886.jpg[/thumb] I don't know what species that is, sorry. I just found a picture of a nice looking bird and tried to draw it.
Oh, so it's like that in the original. Well, if you used that as your reference it doesn't matter much, your rendition looks really close to the original (Though if I were to nitpick on anything, the "hand" part of the wing on your rendition stands out of the body a bit too much compared to the original), so don't worry, you did a really good job  Out of curiosity I've been looking at other images of that bird (The species is in the filename :v: it's a mountain bluebird) and it seems it holds its wings over the tail: [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/GvKFp.jpg[/thumb] For picking references I'd reccomend using various images, since references work better when you use them for checking what goes where, the colours of this, the proportions of that, how does this look at that angle... while doing an original pose

I was just following the instructions given by the tutor, they said you can design a character for an existing game, as long as it's a new character and not just redesigning an existing one.

Around the 50% mark.

I guess I've never finished because I keep finding new things to fix so I'm never really finished, so I just draw the line at some point, even if I have a ton of shit planned to fix.

This graph made me reconsider continuing. If I end up finishing this please be kind on the result.

I must have mistaken "for HL2" for "from HL2" My bad
I didn't like the first one I did so I drew a new one with ref this time I honestly think it looks decent for my first try at realism
The neck goes in a very weird direction I can see she's turning her head toward the viewer but the lack of definition makes it look strange I'm a bit confused as to your light source too, the light is very patchy and there's not much of a value range Keep it up though!

So should I really get SAI and learn to use it instead of CS5?
SAI + Photoshop is still the best combo (Sai for drawing, and Photoshop for editing/adding forms/etc...) Never tried Corel though
I love sai with a passion for the drawing process, but photoshop still has its perks in various areas. Give it a shot and ask around for tips, but let me point these out first- [t]http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/9935/screenshot2012033102331.png[/t] I actually have my layer panel and tools panel swapped, it feels much easier to reach to the right for most of my setting junk given I'm a lefty. I dunno. [editline]31st March 2012[/editline] alsoalso, these keys are: Del/End, rotate left/right page up/down, zoom in/out I customized set Home to be flip view horizontally, and ins to be 'reset translation' which zooms out to fit picture to screen and reset rotation/flippyness and the D key is delete/clear selection
Tested out some more SAI stuff, made this Perspective issue with the rails but I wasnt really worrying about it. One of the big things I miss in SAI is all the fancy selection stuff that photoshop has. Though the brush options in SAI like dilution and blending are sexy
The only selection option I miss is polygonal lasso =[
