Painted in Sai, colour levels adjusted in Photoshop.

Unsure of the gameplay of this map, but I assumed that players could approach via the bottom right area. The smoke from the fire/shell provides the cover that the trees previously did. Radar station balconies undetailed.
[editline]2nd April 2012[/editline]
Actually very unhappy with how this turned out. Not enough imaginative alteration or understanding of colour, especially in the non-colour-corrected version. May give it another shot.
yeehhh "wartorn" doesn't really mean "varying shades of brown"
i like it, its not hard to look at at all
it's blurry as fuck for no reason and i can't focus on anything without spotting misaligned colours

You're making concept art, not a fully finished art piece. You should treat it that way.
Lay down the art direction, the feel and the colours. Forget about details.

Which colour palette should I use?
for Top.
for Bottom.
bottom no contest
bottom no contest
Thanks for the input, can I ask why though?
Oh and before I had it in CMYK and I didn't realise the colours would be that fucked on the web, they're RGB now.
they are different now
i liked how the bottom one was before
i dont like it anymore
before:

out of all 4 colour choices i like the bottom in this one
blue/orange is boring
green/red for the top one is way more interesting
i kinda like the look of blue/orange but green/red seems more interesting

So you're the one who made the Mass Effect ending? You've got a lot to answer to.

You might also want to try working smaller, make them thumbnails. The ones I did were scaled way down from the original screenshot size, so I wouldn't get too caught up in the details and could totally focus just on the atmosphere.

Doom mapping is an art, right?

I haven't done much in the way of art for a while. Here's a skeleton caveman named Gabbro.
First time really trying out animal print stuff. Also tried to practice skeletal structure (he's supposed to be very sturdy and stocky but I think I need to work on the general shapes of bones n' stuff)
Decided to finally try to make a digital paint. I had no idea what I was doing and this is my first time doing this. I know it's kind of messy lol, but I like it

Nice, can't wait to see you flesh it out a bit more :D

Or is it not meant to be?

I think you should try experimenting with more contrast. A lot of your pictures kind of have a muddy feel to them, and it flattens them out a lot. Give it some atmospheric perspective, add some fog to separate things, or make bigger changes in value between the ground and the sky.

I had a dream where I had antlers. It was me alone (and naked) in the dark with a sink, a light, and a mirror. The area had no walls that I could see. I looked in the mirror and saw the antlers, and I tried to shave them off with a razor, but bled profusely.
This is a vision people tend to get when they might become future drug addicts. (I had the dream before learning this)

Holy shit. I was painting this on my eMachine netbook and I just saw it on my desktop LCD.
The colours are flippin' mental. Way too green.
Thanks for the feedback everybody. I'm gonna do a bunch of colour studies from photographs similar to those ones I did awhile ago:

(only this time I'm gonna limit myself to 5 minutes). Realistic colour palattes elude me
-snip, wrong place-
this literally is a thread for your own art. there are many people online who improve tremendously, that's not what this thread is for and i don't see why one person's progress that isn't you matters any more or is worth posting in this thread more than any others.
make a thread for other peoples progress, that isn't what this is for

This is great, I remember you posted the bottom panel ages ago
The river/waterfall are very weird and the perspective to horizon placement is off, but I kind of like the fisheyed look it produces in this case

We've been working on portraiture in my drawing class after doing hands and feet
This is the first time we had a model come in
Only had about 50 minutes so you'll see that it's not finished in places like the ear
I've been in photoshop for too long (not on this image) but I need advice on what red colours would be best for this:

The two I have so far are a little off.
