• Why the left side of the road?

There's probably no tangible advantage of driving on either side of the road. It would be better if every country drove on the same side of the road, and that would probably have to be the right side as most countries already drive on the right, but every developed country is already built up around which side of the road that they drive on. You can't simply ask Australia, New Zealand, the UK, Ireland, Japan and some others (South Africa, and India maybe?) to change to the other side. Driving on the left does have some advantages in terms of car availability. A lot of European makers already have to design their cars to drive on the left as well as the right (so they can sell their cars in the UK and Ireland), and then you can also drive Australian and JDM cars too. Eg here in Australia you can find lots of people driving around in R32, R33 and R34 Nissan Skylines. Not just the well-known GT-R, but also the lesser-known, cheaper, rear-wheel drive or non-turbo models as well, like the R33 GTS, R34 GT and R34 GT-T.
