• How do you get someone to stop trying to convince you to get a Mac?
you cant be serious, macs get viruses just like PCs. they are not the same type, but they are out there. Its probably easier to infect a mac computer with a virus because so many people believe that they are "invincible" and skip on getting protection and even then, you can just grab the free microsoft security essentials for pc, most people really dont need paid antivirus. The amount of misinformation these apple fanboys made is ridiculous
so did you miss the post he made less than 10 posts later or what
This is honestly the thing I hate the most about Mac users. Everything is an application, not a program. :v:
This one here. Did you miss this?

Try stirring up his OS so badly that he'll get kernel panics every time, and insert a lot of malware. Do everything to ruin his experience with Apple. But seriously, what a annoying jackass. Truly, I would like to get a Mac sometime to get the hang of it and see what I like better, but that's just it. You could also make it end up like this:
This is honestly the thing I hate the most about Mac users. Everything is an application, not a program. :v:
Windows user for many, many years before this. I've always used the term synonymously (application just seemed more formal)
they didn't [editline]21st February 2014[/editline] like, ever. any argument someone often tries to give me for not buying a mac is often horse shit
Get a Powerbook G4 for like 30$, pretend it's a new mac and keep it in the corner.
Macs are pretty and quite stable, most people are turned off by their price range and lack of support for most windows applications but I'm enjoying my first macbook
it's not like you can't dualboot windows (with more ease than most laptops) anyways. there's also wine
it's not like you can't dualboot windows (with more ease than most laptops) anyways. there's also wine
Wine is as finicky as a mazda rotary engine.
any argument someone often tries to give me for not buying a mac is often horse shit
In most cases, they're more expensive by miles than a comparable PC. For a while they were literally a different architecture, so they could justify the increased price, but now both are x86 based. So whats the price justification now? Like, seriously, I just took a base level 13" Macbook pro, base options all around, 2.4ghz i5, 4 gigs of ram, half a tbyte storage, no extra software. $1299. Then, I took a basic toshiba satellite, 14" screen, 2.6ghz i5, 12 gigs of ram, 1tbyte hybrid drive, touchscreen, bluetooth, and it has a dvd drive, maybe bluray I can't tell from the summary. $1,034.99 If I had matched specs with the macbook? $599. So, I ask, how do you justify the literally insane price of a mac?
desktops? maybe. but if you're looking for a laptop of comparable build quality, specs (including display) you're looking at something more expensive [editline]21st February 2014[/editline] raw specs really aren't everything. i haven't had a good experience with Toshiba's build quality nor their customer support, both of which i would commend apple for. the extra cost comes from the design, not just the specifications. by the way, which laptop are you comparing the macbook to? [editline]21st February 2014[/editline]
Wine is as finicky as a mazda rotary engine.
on linux? yeah, it is. it's still bothersome on OS X, but usable i feel the need to add that Macbook Pro/Airs come with a ful suite of office-like tools that are fully compatable with Microsoft's standards. not something you ever see with other OEM's.

As for customer service, I can't say much as I've literally never had any interaction with hardware customer support of any kind. And the "specs aren't everything" counter i've seen so much. As for apple customer service, it has to be good. Why? because you're not allowed to work to fix the damn thing yourself.
you are entirely allowed to mess with your macbook internals as you please, you just lose your warranty (as with every other OEM). sure, some stuff is sadly soldered in, at the cost of a considerably thinner and lighter laptop :x [editline]21st February 2014[/editline] why isn't the 'specs aren't everything' counter not valid? because they aren't actually, don't bother. even hinting at dispelling claims made towards apple on facepunch basically sets you on the same level as a baby killer
Punch him. [editline]21st February 2014[/editline] Alternatively try to convert him to linux in the same fashion.

I was genuinely curious, but whatever.
I think personal preference is a good enough argument here. With cars you can to some degree argue that a certain vehicle within a price range is better. With operating systems it comes down to what you want to do with the computer. Windows is just more compatible with consumer software and video games, and Windows PCs offer more customization when it comes to choice of hardware. Macs are good for certain things, but Windows machines are better for games and that's not really a point one can argue. What I would do is simply say "Stop telling me to get a mac, because I'm not going to". That should be enough. If I were in your situation I would repeat myself a few times and then tell the person to fuck off.

I can't customize that laptop to those specs on Toshiba's website. I can't find any reference to those softwares being installed by default on any mac. I just picked a laptop from a list, I guess I should have specced an "ultrabook" or whatever the hell they call them thin things these days.
they are free with new apple PC's. [editline]21st February 2014[/editline] http://www.apple.com/uk/creativity-apps/mac/up-to-date/

also about wine; it fully supports .net 4.0 framework, but you have to install it yourself. no big deal though, it does so flawlessly i would still honestly reccomend having a small bootcamp partition for windows applications you use for any work, though. wine can be unreliable; but for the most part, it's definitely usable

But that was a year or so ago. Guides literally said "sorry, it doesn't work". Nice to see progress in that front. All in all though, my beef with Apple? I don't like the environment. It feels so... restricted. Everything has to be Apple sponsored or Apple approved and with the regulations that they're trying so hard to push on things like jailbreaking, it makes me feel like i have to break the law just to use it how I want. So the super locked down environment plus the super inflated price... I just can't justify it. But I'm not a target market user, I'm a Power User. I get what I want for the best price I can manage and I make it work and bend it to my will and I just feel like Apple doesn't want me to do that and are in fact taking steps to prevent that however they can.
throw him out of a window just to be ironic and say "and you see why windows are so useful now?"
We use imacs in my graphic com class. Worst shit ever. Takes forever to get things to work. Applications crash constantly. And it should not take 5 mins to save a fucking word or photoshop document for a $2000 computer.
Why hasn't he gotten a PC? He should switch to PC.
I just say to my cousin "get a Windows computer" since he's looking for a PC, prefers a mac though. I've used a Mac before. But there's extreme fucking problems with the way it reads files and the way it inputs them. It's like, impossible to play half of your favourite games from Windows on a Mac. Shit system, I don't get why people like it so much.

Show him some of that good old brotherly love
Buy a shitty mouse and keyboard and buy a big mac from macdonalds. Clear your desk, slap that big mac in the middle, plug in your mouse and keyboard, then bring him to look at it. After a few seconds, lift up the top bun revealing a note saying "Fuck off."
This man is my hero.
Jeez, he must have the mad cow disease. On topic : Shit in his bowl of soup next morning
