You can't make the same child as you did before with sexual reproduction. Humans have 46 chromosones, when 2 parents (one male and one female) make the sperm and the egg. 23 Chromosomes of the father is used and 23 Chromosomes of the mother is used. They then form 46 together for that child(ren)'s chromosomes.
Asexual reproduction or cloning requires one parent and the child that the parent makes is identical to the parent.
You didn't pass grade 9 Science, didn't you?
Not my point at all. Why would you need to make an exact copy in the first place? Other than to violate their rights as a human and harvest them for organs, I can't think of a good reason.
If it's just for the sake of making a new human being, might as well just do it the normal way and save yourself a couple hundred grand.

Apparently you wouldn't because that's his plan according to the OP. The ability to harvest people's organs is a pro of human cloning, apparently.

"I Really, Really Hate Clones"
No, just no.
The potential for abuse is catastrophically huge.
Some things in nature use cloning, some things don't. It should stay that way. Every single time humans have tried tampering with the way things are naturally made it usually ends in disaster. If it isn't broken, don't fucking fix it.
What I was thinking.
Same situation in Blood Money.
You forgot that it could also seriously fuck up our gene pool

Well, what if the clones are all sterilized?
If you want to have clones you can clone your despised brother and shove the "Real one" in cliff. and teach clone to be your brother. Profit.
The fuck is wrong with you people? Can any of you actually imagine what how a real clone would be? It's inhumane doing this kind of thing.
Imagine you woke up one day to find out, every single one of your memories, every feeling you had was all synthetic and you weren't "real". I hope cloning humans never happens. Animal cloning, I'm only partially ok with.
And of course facepunch is like "hurr durr cloning is cool becus of hitman and i culd fuk my own clone slave"

You have no idea how cloning works do you?
Of course you don't. You had to make a willfully ignorant opinion based on nothing but stupid hollywood bullshit and propaganda from the anti-genetic research crowd. Because you sure as shit didn't get it from a scientist.
Cloning in the "hollywood" way is as far as we know impossible.
All clones are just genetic copies of another person. They do not share the memories, they do not share the AGE as they are born at age 0 like everyone else, and they are not "synthetic". Cloning involves taking dna and putting it into the shell of a human egg (not a hard shell, like an unfertilized human egg). The egg then begins growing (read splitting into more cells) with the same genetic code and in a very similar way to how the person being cloned would. This of course has to take place inside of a womb as you are just making a fucking baby while skipping fertilization. They are a new person that bears a striking resemblance to another person. Nothing more, nothing less. Those of us who happen to believing in tabula-rasa (at least partially) think that they probably wouldn't even have the same likes and dislikes as the person that they were cloned from.
LEARN SHIT BEFORE HAVING AN OPINION SMART ONE
I must now ask myself why I only go on science related rants at 12 at night on maybe 3 hours of sleep.
I guess cloning is okay, but only if the clone is treated the same way as any human (or animal) should be treated, and if it's really necessary to clone. Like, a species getting extinct or something.
I'm all for cloning anything and everything but sweet fuck we don't need more people.
Maybe we can clone people who are really smart and don't mind fitting in really small places! That way we can build pods for them and shoot them to distant planets!
I'm supportive.
I'm thinking that at least 3/4 of this thread is talking about the sci-fi version of cloning and not the real kind
i do not support the cloning of humens
but i do support cloning of humens that cannot think for stress relieving
I don't really care about either, but cloning humans usually gets into weird ethics shit and it's probably just better to grow limbs instead.
This. I usually try to avoid these questions because it feels like there is so much that could be wrong or done wrong and be abused... I don't know really. I don't think we should directly clone humans and animals, unless there's a good reason I guess.

Medical science is far from natural. Isn't that hugely desirable?
I don't know why everyone's making the assumption the only reason we would ever make clones is to harvest them/use them as slaves... :raise:

good god.
weezywaiter
When cloning becomes cheaper and when the survivability raises I'm all for it.
-Only a 2-3% chance of survival rate
-Short lifespam
-The cost to clone something is $50,000 to $100,000 (no including equipment and dealing with the dead bodies)
these will go away with research
I think you have a very pessimistic outlook on humanity if you think greed overrides everything else.
You can make human organs grow in other animals rather too. You don't need to waste humans that way.
Read a history book.
I've made enough of my own personal judgements on people to know they're not all evil.
Well, it's ok if done right, and if it's in the right hands. The concept of creating loads of clones for labour purposes is a disturbing and immoral one, but it could happen if advanced cloning (and I mean ADVANCED) got into the wrong hands.
But keep in mind that for that level of cloning tech, we'd need to not only fully master the genetic base-code (TGAC for humans and mammals at least), but we'd also need advanced "manufacturing", most notably an artificial gestation chamber, kind of like the axolotl tanks from Dune, or cloning tubes that you see in any science fiction stories that revolve around or include cloning. And that stuff is still a while off.
To repeat what I said earlier, it is ok if it is done correctly (little to no genetic errors), and if it remains in safe, responsible, ethical hands.
Of course not. However there are countless wars, conflicts, disputes, genocides, and many other actions of disgustingness that cover human history. You can't ignore nor deny this.
I wasn't saying that we are evil, I was saying that we are capable of it.
That doesn't mean we should condemn everything that can be abused. The past shouldn't hold us back from making scientific progress.
I support pretty much all research, development and all uses of clones and cloning and such.
The problem of cloning and general genom modification concerens primarily the ethics of people behind it. Be a shitface napoleon and you finish with sth like that (growing your child in a sack and crossing it with the genes of teenage mutant ninja turtles and subsequently being seduced and/or raped by it):

A pretty tough question. But I think that it's pretty immoral to clone someone just to later rip out they're organs so that someone else can live. But I support stem cell research. Also, not sure on the animals really. And I can't see why we should clone animals really.
Edit:
I wanted to point out that I agree with "The golden" here. If cloning would some day be really easy and cheap to do it is bound to be abused. Even if we don't see it. For example during World War II, the German population didn't know about the mass murder of jews that was going on. So illegal cloning and harvesting etc. could be a big issue.
