Well the CIA world factbook calls it the United States of America so...
This thread was over at the first post^^
I don't know what is more humiliating, losing a war where the opposition was aided by the french, or having to be aided by the french.
Imperial France and the new France are two seperate things. After their revolution, everthing went bad for them. Imperial France>New France
The true name is the United States, you can include of America, if you really want to. [editline]01:22AM[/editline]
Alright. Mexico is "The United States of America." The Netherlands are "The United States of Europe". Germany is "The United States of Europe." All of the above countries consist of states united under one government. Idiot.
Yea exactly right, that's what the European Union is. If a state really wants to they can TRY to break off from the US. But I seriously doubt any of that states politicians would support that
Technically, the name of our country depends on which state you live in. The United States of America was never supposed to be a country itself in the first place; rather it was the association of all the states to form a more perfect union for the benefit of trade, commerce, and common wealth.

Wow. I can't believe you. Read right below what you bolded. The union of these states is called the United States of America. Each state is a separate form of sovereignty and government. Why is this so hard to understand?
You're a dumbfuck, you know? That was under the Articles of Confederation. They got rid of that and replaced it with the Constitution of the United States of America. We're not a confederation any more, we're a federation. Thus, each state might have its own goverment, but it is in no way a seperate sovereignty. Next time, pay all attention in history class instead of half of it. :911: [editline]11:01PM[/editline]
[editline]01:22AM[/editline] If a state really wants to they can TRY to break off from the US. But I seriously doubt any of that states politicians would support that
If you look up the "Constitution Party of America", a small but growing party, one of their stated aims is to make it legal for states to withdrawal from the the union if they wish. (I don't vote for them :patriot:)
Americans and stuff.
:regd09:
It's the Indians land. It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. It was the "omg revolution".
It's the Indians land. It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. It was the "omg revolution".
Minus the fact that Indians had nothing major to do with the Revolutionary war.
They were sitting, waiting until both British, etc pwned themselves.
republic of china= Taiwan
ok
China will pwn America. Don't count on it.
Why don't we just say united states. We're not that formal. :downs:
Actually they do. Most get offended if you're visiting and say "I'm from America." You're supposed to tell them "I'm from the states." They consider themselves Americans as well.
um no, I consider myself a Canadian, not an American by any standards even though I do live on the American continent
quit saying gook all the time, do you have something against asians or something?
gook
*
"i'm going to quote myself to get attention so people will rate me even though i didn't think my post through but it's okay i don't need to i'll just quote myself anyway with my rock hard dick:c00lbert:" [editline]02:21AM[/editline]
um no, I consider myself a Canadian, not an American by any standards even though I do live on the American continent
but it IS North America, so technically you are American in that regard.
Fucking Americans.
"i'm going to quote myself to get attention so people will rate me even though i didn't think my post through but it's okay i don't need to i'll just quote myself anyway with my rock hard dick:c00lbert:" [editline]02:21AM[/editline] but it IS North America, so technically you are American in that regard.
I didn't quote myself to get attention, or to get ratings. I merely quoted myself because the person whom I quoted didn't think his post through and I already addressed it before. You seem to be the one trying to get attention here.
It's really called the United States of Al-Qaeda. CONSPIRACY. :tinfoil:
I see OP's teacher's point. The United States isn't technically a country, it's a collection of states. America isn't a country, it's a continent. Southern America (Mexico, Brazil, etc.) has countries, and North America has countries (Canada), but the USA... it's just a bunch of United States. That makes sense to me. Y'all need a better name ;p
what about The United States of Southern North America
what about The United States of Southern North America
The same name can be used to describe Mexico.
gook
someone's been watching too many 'nam fims...
Or so my World History teacher said. He pretty much explained that "The United States of America" is just a description of our country and not an actual title. We cant simply name ourselves America because Canada and Mexico are also technically American since we all reside in North America. So what my teacher is saying is that we have yet to actually name our country. Now I kinda understand both ways, really. I asked my mom this and she pretty much called my teacher a retard. I'd like to hear your input on this. It's been something that's been bugging me all day.
calling your teacher a retard... Takes a retard for doing so, kudos for your mother for being the typical American!
The US is a capitalist trash of a country!
