Does Less than Jake count as actual Ska or just Ska-Punk?
Ska-Punk.
I love love love Catch 22.
Less Than Jake (Not their GNV FLA album though) Goldfinger The Mighty Mighty Bosstones The Planet Smashers Musterd Plug Reel Big Fish Save Ferris The Forces of Evil The Supervillains Catch22 (Only when Tom was in) Streetlight Manifesto Sublime (if that counts) 311 (if that counts) No Doubt (if that counts) Five Iron Frenzy (almost forgot) I'm sure there's a lot more I can't recall that I love. Ska is my favorite genre. [editline]01:23AM[/editline] Good Burger had Less Than Jake, simply amazing. We're all dudes - Less Than Jake Nickelodeon (pre Nick) was fucking sweet.
Pepper is pretty sweet though they might be a little more reggae-rock than ska.
With the exception of one song, aren't Goldfinger punk rock and not ska?
It's arguable, since the lines are pretty poorly defined these days. I stick with calling 'em 'Ska-Punk' and leaving it ambiguous.
Goldfinger does a couple that resemble ska -Superman -More Today than Yesterday Wait, you're right. But they sound like ska music, along with bands like MEST. I dig anything with upstrokes, horns or not.
My ska list goes like this: -The Arrogant Sons of Bitches -The Johnstones -Streetlight -Mustard Plug -Reel Big Fish (just a little) -Skankin' Pickle -The Toasters -Westbound Train -Voodoo Glowskulls
Check out Common Rider, Jesse Michaels from Op Ivy formed it in 1999. they got some pretty smooth songs
For me, it's all Streelight Manifesto, Catch 22, Reel Big Fish, and The Toasters. My own band is called Ubatuba.
saw the specials at t in the park on saturday, was right at the front. be jealous.
Saw The Specials at Brixton 02 in April and seeing them again in November at Hammersmith Apollo, be jealous :D Also, Desmond Dekker Toots and The Maytals Madness Bad Manners Prince Buster Streetlight Manifesto Reel Big Fish I'm more of a fan of 1st Wave and 2-tone era stuff but I do like a bit of ska-punk.
I just saw Big D and the Kids Table, Streetlight Manifesto, and Westbound Train at warped tour yesterday. It was nuts.
Three Cheers for Disappointment is pretty much the pinnacle of the genre.
I just saw Streetlight Manifesto yesterday, was quite an amazing show.
I just saw Streetlight Manifesto yesterday, was quite an amazing show.
Vancouver Warped Tour! High five!
I just saw Streetlight Manifesto yesterday, was quite an amazing show.
You see a guy dancing like a maniac, wearing a bear hat? That was me.
Where is Reel Big Fish on that?
I love pretty much every ska band. I absolutely can't stand Left Over Crack, Choking Victim, Against All Authority, and NOFX though.
Ah I love Choking Victim.
Where is Reel Big Fish on that? [editline]09:48PM[/editline] Much better.
I can't stand Reel Big Fish, I liked them at first, but then I realized their songs all sound the same, and they are way too normal sounding. Except for suburban rhythm, that's a good one.
In other news, I saw Leftover Crack the other day, and they were pretty disappointing. On the plus side, I saw the Beat the day before, and they were awesome.
Reel Big Fish featuring Streetlight Manifesto was probably the best concert I've ever been to.
