No-one in my family but me likes the Coen Brothers. :frown:
My dad likes them
True Grit 7/10, I am sorry, but I was bored with this movie. The dialogue and acting wasn't all that great, story was very weak, but the cinematography was great. i like the Coen brothers, but this was a disappointment.
Truly speaking I have not watch this movie.. I have seen it trailers.. Its look like an amazing flick..

It doesn't exactly give the conventional ending of a revenge story, but I highly disagree that the story was weak. I thought the dialogue was well written. Movie just isn't for you.

I love westerns, but watching True Grit a second time made me rethink my score. When I first saw it I thought it was really good like a 8.5,9/10, but then I watched and noticed a couple things and didn't feel like I was watching the same movie.

so many movies do that nowadays. I thought the unconventional lines were kind of interesting though, and i thought it really set the movie apart.
same reason i didn't like it.
the movie seemed lost too, it couldn't set a tone.
It felt too out of place trying to be everything, which just makes for bad story telling, which in the end makes a bad movie in my opinion.
I agree that the climax was pretty vague, but I definitely thought there was enough content there to set a tone. And as for trying to fit a lot into it, I think it did a relatively good job, compared to the linear shit they spoon out nowadays. Now, look at the original; late sixties, comes with truly epic movies with similar stories. Bonnie and Clyde, 2001, the Godfather... they all kinda have wavering stories and questionable climaxes. I think it was pretty valiant of the Coen brothers to try and keep that sentiment, but heck the Coen brothers are always unconventional.
Goddamnit it's released 18.2. here :argh:
What kind of name is cockburn.
I wonder how many times they had to redo scenes where his name was said due to inevitable laughter.
If that girl doesn't get nominated for some type of major award, I will be thoroughly disappointed. She's been nominated for a Screen Actors' Guild award, but that's just not enough.
Saw the movie last night, had no bad things to say about it.
"I'll give you $10 for a pony"
"Well, now I guess.. wait, are we trading again?"

It's Cogburn.

Sounds the same when you say it though.
Loved the film. I hope people start to make more awesome westerns again.
Wow, this was a really great movie. Saw it earlier today and loved it.
It was a really good movie. It wasn't focused entirely on being an action or a comedy, it was just made to tell a great story.
"And which way did you back up?"
"I always back up the same way- backwards."

Wha- the dialogue was probably one of the best parts of the movie! The way they spoke was so perfectly poetic, it matched the sort of language you see from something like "Deadwood"!

I love you too sweetie.
One of the best westerns. The dialogue managed to take an actionless beginning of a western movie, and make it into the hilarious introduction of characters and setting of scenes. I dont know how anybody cannot like the dialogue. The action was great and realistic....mostly. The characters were just awesome in general. Me and my friends have been quoting it ever since we saw it.
I actually enjoyed this, from start to ending.
It didn't seem slow, it had "action" where it was supposed to be to keep it from getting draggy.
Twas a very nice film.
This was an EXCELLENT film.
My favorite bit in the film had to be when they meet the Medicine man. :v:
I was cracking up so badly.
When he rode up I was just like "is that a fucking bear"
Real great movie I loved everyone's part good story and good acting. My only problem is that at least around where I live people are making a bigger deal about Tron Legacy then True Grit.

Or something mighty close.
It was a much better remake because John Wayne is a terrible actor. Robin Williams could have done it better.
Ah, finally going to see this tomorrow.

When he said this, all I could think about was Dr. Barber from The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack.
Surgery?

Anyway, the movie was really great. I saw it a week and a half ago, and thought I recognized the cowboy. Not until now did I realize it was the Dude from The Big Lebowski. I am so ashamed of myself.
I hated the ending.
