I recently had a debate with a friend about the future of cell phones. He thinks that people will want to buy much thinner cell phones (anywhere for 3 to 5 mm in width) while I say that that is way too thin and people will want phones with some thickness to them. What do you guys think/want? Would you prefer a phone that is very thin or about the thickness of the iphone four to five?
thick, I dont want the thing snapping in half in my pocket
thick, I dont want the thing snapping in half in my pocket
My friend says that it would be made of a durable material, so whether it will break or not isn't a concern. Would you still want to go thick?
i personally don't see the point of this craze with ever-thinner phones and devices. the'yre small enough already.
Although portable computers get smaller than ever, there is the intangible fact that the bigger something is, it will be able to fit more processing power and a larger battery
Being somewhat of a power-user, I'd personally much rather have something a bit hefty but with a long battery life and good processing power over a "flexible" or "super-thin" phone most of the time - but it really depends on what you use that shit for and what your personal preferences are. A jogger might require a light-weight, thin device; a construction worker, something with good reception, battery and durability at the cost of power - and so on.
If I wanted a "phone," I'd just get one that can only call. Now if I wanted a portable computer in my pocket, that's a different story and out of my budget.
I want a fully foldable phone that I can fit in my wallet, use as a bookmark and slide under a doorway.
mmmm.... girth

XD
Personally, I'd like a phone that has some nice processing power and a qwerty keyboard, so small doesn't work for me. However, many people jut want a phone not a pocket computer, so I could see a smaller, more portable phone working for them.

You should lurk more.

Thick is better.
i think maybe one day phones might be a chip in your hand like total recall, or just a rectangle piece of glass which is see through but turn on and function like a phone.

That looks bloody indestructible! What's it called?
looks like a built-(on?) otterbox

A JCB sitemaster. Like the diggers.
Fun fact: You can run over it with a digger and it will survive undamaged.
They will obviously keep getting smaller because it's "the thing". In 10 years smartphones will be able to play current gen games.
In the long run, like in 100 years or so, they might even be a flexible piece of glass.
flexible piece of glass.
Now, I may be talking out of my ass here so don't quote me as a genius on this, but I'm fairly certain that glass is impossible to make "flexible"
Plastic? Certainly. Glass? Not so much. Plus, even if they made them into non-flexible pieces of glass, I'm fairly certain that dropping it would cause it to shatter.
Imagine this scenario:
*SMASH* "OH GOD!"
"WHATWHATWHAT, DID YOU BREAK THE VASE?!"
"No, that was my phone..."

We already have flexible glass..

By glass I meant glass-like material.

Same. I don't really want a super lightweight thin phone, I want something that has some heft to it so it's nice to hold and when it's in my pocket I actually know it's there.
I dislike the fact that the telephones have become so small. If current trends continue i.e. smaller telephones, I will revert back to a landline.

Glass becomes very flexible if you heat it up enough.
I like em thick.

Will still lose in a head to head collision with a nokia.
My Samsung convoy can survive re-entry.

3310 is a piece of plastic crap
I dropped it on tiles once, no cracks/shatters but it refused to work since then
so stop with the jokes
Will still lose in a head to head collision with a nokia.
I disagree, this phone can win against a digger. I doubt your upper class businessman phone can do the same.
We already have flexible glass..
Bend a piece of plastic. It bends.
Try bending a piece of glass. It shatters.
Not once in my life have I seen a piece of glass do anything but break when bent/dropped

So, you'd like your phone to be at the melting point of glass?
Pretty sure that would burn straight through your shirt pocket.

It is delivered on spools.
Thin phones aren't fun to handle. Like how I dislike handling my atrix without my otterbox, just a way better grip with the otterbox on.
