It's also my sister's birthday.
There's this WWII veteran at my local retirement home, I've seen him a lot for the past 2 months because I've been doing community hours for this program at my high school, he's actually funny as hell and is the best chess player I've ever met. Also introduced me to a lot of music I listen to now.
I think hitler was a pretty cool guy, he accidentaly millions of jews and doesn't afraid of gas

The siren must have been 10 minutes long this morning
My history teachers father-in-law was stationed somewhere on the eastern front, THEN he got sent to Hiroshima after they dropped the bombs. It's pretty rare for someone to be on both fronts of the war. (he wasn't anyone special though, only a sergeant), He died after that, about 6 months after the war. It was either lung cancer, or exposure to radiation. (probably both, since he was a heavy smoker).
Another thing that I just realized is that since it's the 72nd Anniversary that means the earliest age a person who fought in the war would be atleast 90 years of age now...
My grandpa joined the marines when he was 16. (because he lied about his age)
My grandpa joined the marines when he was 16. (because he lied about his age)
I've actually heard a lot of stories of men lying about their age to join, so it must have been a common thing.
"The war to end all wars" was WWI, The reason they stopped calling it that was well...because of WWII.
Crazy thing about France was that they were prepared to put up a hell of a fight at the Maginot Line. Then the German Army was like "Fuck that" and went around.
My grandpa fought in the European war. I need to ask him about it
My grandpa fought in the polish army, he got shot in the stomach. He's 97 and he still walks and talks fine
anyway I think people criminalize Hitler way too much
he lost his eye in France thanks to overreacting french guerilla
war is war bro, eye for an eye
ps : don't invade

Not enough
what really gets to me is all the people who portray hitler as some kind of supernatural demon. he was a person. granted, a very bigoted, hateful, finger pointing person but still a person.
So? His idea of systematically slaying Jews was very fucked up. That immediately makes him a dumbass. He's interesting though.

i wouldn't call him a dumbass. remember, this is a guy who managed to take a country majorly ravaged by war, both in infrastructure and spirit, and bring it up to a point where it almost took over all of europe
My grandfather was a member of the 30th Infantry Division, "Old Hickory". 5 campaigns. He is 87(?) years old.

People criminalize Stalin way too little.
Spanish neutrality bitches
After getting buttraped by fascism in a civil war of course
Some of my relatives were apart of the Euzko Gudarostea, and others left Spain altogether when Franco came into power.

He may as well have been, with all the lives lost because of him. There are few people in history who have caused such a loss of life and if they get put in their own category of scum, why is that a problem?
U.S.A Sucks, Germany should've won the war.
(AKA I am a German at heart. (Even though I'm American)

If Germany won the war, you and everyone you know would probably be repressed by the German government, and never be able to use the internet

because that's just not accurate. the way that a lot of people write about it just totally screams that it's been affected by somebody's strong emotions, which history should never be.
Technically, World War 2 started with the invasion of China. In 1936

You're also a shit poster at heart.
My grandfather was in the navy and fought in pearl harbor.
He told me these creepy stories about "recovery" missions he was sent on and he found these weird creatures in the sea.
