We got a kitten a few months ago, and I'm still having trouble figuring out how to pick him up and hold him. I tried cradling him like a baby, but he doesn't seem to like that.
I'm afraid to pick him up by the nape of his neck because I'm worried that it'll hurt him. Advice?
Put him over your shoulder so you're holding his back feed and his hands are on your shoulder. I can pretty much hold my kitten however I want. I usually make a platform with my front hands for their paws and one for their back feet, too. And don't be afraid to pick them up by their neck like that, but you have to do it at the right spot or it might hurt them a little bit. It's a bit near their shoulders. I usually only pick her up like this when It's hard to reach her with two hands.
I remember my first Kitten didn't have a liter box and we always fed her a can of cat food and she pooped in it when it was empty. It was so cute :3
It's just what I've heard, even if not, I don't think it's a good thing to teach your cat to pointlessly kill things when they have no need to do so, plus it's messy.
It appears you haven't read what I posted. Our cats actually are useful when they hunt because they fend off rodents from out house.

When I move my cat away from the door so he doesn't get out, I normally hold him right at his chest, and keep my fingers before his legs, and cradle his lower stomach. Other times, I do what you do.
If you buy beds and toys for it, likely they won't use them.
We had to buy 5 beds before she finally decided to sleep in one.
She loves it though.
buy it a toy or two, like a foam ball (one it can get its claws into) and a laser pointer (they love them. Just got a kitten myself, so i learned a few things myself.
-They get their claws caught on a lot of stuff, mostly curtains and blankets
-their shit is the worst smelling shit in existence
-scratchy
-try not to roll over, they might be sleeping around you
-buy kitten food unless a vet says otherwise
-feed it leftover fish (fresh not frozen) its good for their fur end eyes or something. note ---that their breath will smell.
-milk=kitty diarrhea. they like it, but only give it to them a little at a time (1 tbs or less)
hope this helps
stepping on cats relieves stress
The world would be better without people like you, but I'll let it slide because you've done nothing personal to me.
Don't bother buying them toys or a bed. Cigarette papers, pens, shoelaces and sweet wrappers will honestly suffice for toys. I bought my cat a shit ton of stuff and he just ignores it and plays with shit laying around the house.
Also he has slept in his cat bed maybe once, the rest of the time he curls up on one of my tshirts or something else that is just 'there'.
This is very true. My cat loves to crawl in tight places and loves walking and laying in and on plastic bags, so we bought her this neat little house shaped like a fish that combined the best of both, and she wouldn't go close to it.

Except laser pointers those are a cats best friend.
don't kick them
If the cat does something absolutely stupid its normal, laser pointers are fun,not all cats react to catnip.
Don't let it sleep on your face.
You're truly disgusting.
So neutering is okay but declawing is the most vile thing to grace the animal kingdom?
Yeah, you're cool.
Hug it, feed it, never leave it. :3
Don't give it pure milk, water it up.
Never give chocolate, or other sweets to it.
sometimes i cuddle up with my cat on the carpet and snuggle it even if it wants as far away from me as possible because that is the only type of love you should have for a cat
Press them up against your chest, cats love chests.

A completely selfish thing done to the pet because you're too lazy to do things to prevent it isn't comparable to getting them neutered or spayed to prevent them from having tons of kittens. There's a reason that everyone tells you to spay and neuter, and everyone says to not declaw your cats. If you continue on you're obviously trolling. http://declaw.lisaviolet.com/declawpics.html doesn't that look wonderful? :)
Make sure that your cat has properly sized arms. You don't want this situation:

Kill it with fire.
Don't even bother getting one. They're cocks.
Also a tip on toys. My cat had a mouse toy that had something sprayed on it that made the cats crazy about.
I think it was some natural smell of a mouse. But he went batshit crazy when I gave it to him.
if (s)he does something you dont want too like, pisses in your shoes, or brings in a variety of dead animals (once our cats brought in a fuckin' pidgeon) a water bottle is a good choice, spray it in their face when they do wrong.
Also, don't dump your cat in a bath, surefire way to get clawed to death.
I have a blind, 16 year old cat. She loves to go outdoors. One time, I saw some other big black cat near mine, so I wanted to scare it away, but before I could, my own cat scared it away and scratched it's nose. Though my cat can't pull in her nails anymore, because she's so old, we do love her. Also, she somehow still managed to catch a mouse last week. Sometimes she just gets up and freezes, while looking at a direction. Later on, she killed a mouse.
Never declaw a cat. Feed it and pet it. Cats can live on their own if they're outside cats, just give them food.
Though you should always give it hugs and love.
Felis catus is your taxonomic nomenclature,
An endothermic quadruped, carnivorous by nature;
Your visual, olfactory, and auditory senses
Contribute to your hunting skills and natural defenses.
I find myself intrigued by your subvocal oscillations,
A singular development of cat communications
That obviates your basic hedonistic predilection
For a rhythmic stroking of your fur to demonstrate affection.
A tail is quite essential for your acrobatic talents;
You would not be so agile if you lacked its counterbalance.
And when not being utilized to aid in locomotion,
It often serves to illustrate the state of your emotion.
O Spot, the complex levels of behavior you display
Connote a fairly well-developed cognitive array.
And though you are not sentient, Spot, and do not comprehend,
I nonetheless consider you a true and valued friend.
This man is an expert at communicating with cats, just copy what he says and you'll be fine when it comes to getting your cat to love you:

Cats can learn to open doors and will unlock your every secret. Keep anything you'd be ashamed of your cat learning safely locked away.
feed it daily
change its water daily
keeps its shit box clean
make sure it has all its shots and has been wormed
They do like toys, balls with bells, laser pointers, catnip laced things
Invest in declawing it unless you want your carpets and furniture torn up. If its going to be going outside then omit this statement.
Cats are territorial
They love to hide and can be nocturnal
You will not have mice or bugs again
they leave hair everywhere
they like to get in the sun during the day
no dogs unless the two are acquainted well
keep it away from newborn babies as cats can make a baby very sick.
Keep it away from small children unless you want it squeezed to death or its tail dislocated.
no table scraps or milk. Cream is ok though
Bathe it about every 2 weeks. to do this if its a kitten slowly get it used to the water. it takes time but it can be done and it will grow up to trust you when you bathe it in a tub and not freak out.
Cats have fur.
I couldn't declaw my cats, they both love to explore the surrounding gardens and without their claws they'd have trouble climbing...also I want them to be able to defend themselves if needed.
Cats are easy to look after. They basically need food, water and their litter changed. Cat food is easy to find, however sometiems cats are fussy about certain brands and types. Mine like jelly catfood rather than gravy, and will only eat dry cat food if there is no alternative and they sure do hate that. If you cat likes a brand of cat food, stick to it. Don't give them milk, it's bad for their stomachs and can make them ill. There are special kinds of milk available for cats you can buy but water is good enough really.
Get your cat nutered!
Don't buy cat beds, they never use them. They want to sleep on your bed, your clothes, your sofa, your chairs, etc. My lovely little female cat loves to sleep in the middle of my bed stretched out so when I go to bed I kind of sleep around her till she moves :D. The male cat luckily sleeps on a chair instead. Toys...a cat is just as happy with a paper ball tied to a long pice of string (a winning toy with kittens, they love it!) than expensive pet shop toys. A catnip toy however is a nice treat.
When you hold a cat, do not let their feet hang in mid air...they hate it. Support their feet.
Cats are independant but still love being stroked. They can be very affectionate but it's on their own terms ;)
Take pictures of it and put a funny caption on it.
Can we have a picture of this kitten?
