err... what? Also: Anyone know a good book/way to introduce 40k to someone? My friend has heard of it before, but doesn't really know anything about lore So... books...?
I got started on the Dawn of War games then started looking at the lexicanium then when I got a basic grasp of what's what got the ultramarines omnibus.
Gaunts Ghosts, that'll generally introduce you without you ending up being confused about a lot of the lore, or the Horus Heresy series to see how it all started.
I would not recommend the Horus Heresy straight from knowing only small tidbits on WH40K. However a book I would recommend for first time readers is the first book in the Ragnar Blackmane series, it goes from when he's a normal guy all the way to when he's a space marine and inbetween. It explains a lot on how Space Marines come to be and shows the darker secrets of some chapters.
Well they explain things very well... Convinces me... Edit: Actually it KINDA makes sense since it's 40 god damned thousand years in the future, even if humanity stopped progressing, we'd still be pretty advanced
Its not so much we've STOPPED progressing as we don't want to. Instead of coming up with new tech, we just steal old stuff from the STCs.
We both liked the movie, but when the grandfather does his thing - I didnt really understand why, and Tatiana exclaimed, "Why are all these movies the same???...Its stupid" Now I get a lot of, "My grandfather says it is impossible." why do ultrasmurfs have to have such a central roll in the whole universe? what do I care. I haven't touched warhammer in years.
why do ultrasmurfs have to have such a central roll in the whole universe? what do I care. I haven't touched warhammer in years.
After the Horus Heresy, they were the only legion not depleted, due to them being delayed. So they had to do all the cleanup work.
why do ultrasmurfs have to have such a central roll in the whole universe? what do I care. I haven't touched warhammer in years.
Because they're GW's flagship Chapter?
Because they're GW's flagship Chapter?
In my local GW, its a sea of blue, and a tiny strip of other races at the edge.
Well Marines are GW's primary cash generator, Onw GW manager told me that Marines produce more revenue than all the other races combined.
Sure, but a little variety in the color scheme... Mind you, I do collect marines, so I'm all set.
Am I a bad person for having Ultramarines? I'm a new player, so I suppose I'm that stereotypical newbie, but the only reason I'm ultras is because I already had the paints for them, honest!

Just recently have I been adding a new undercoat, along with improved green paint.

So I don't blame you. Just remember you can go off and do your own thing.
My first (and only) Chapter were a bastardised Black consuls. I figure that they got wiped out, I could use a bit of creative license and make them my own.
My colors are Mordian Blue and Mechrite Red for my Space Marines.
I have blue Imperial guard, I like the colour.
I have blood red and codex gray Orkz. Cause' dey is best.
And they it makes them go faster
Seems like Sean Pertwee is really getting into the whole thing, he mentioned on the blog that during voice recording he started to ask really small ,but ultimately important questions about the nature of Bolters.
I've heard rumors that the world of Warhammer Fantasy is, in fact, the world of Lord of the Rings, only ages later.
Not really, Gotrek & Felix at leats hints that it's something like a world in the 40K universe that's trapped/cut off in a warp storm. Not been confirmed but pretty much hints at it.

I wonder what happens when it comes out of the warpstorm, probably nothing good for anyone on that world (not that it ever will anyway).
Not just that, Old ones, Pathways (Pretty much a primitive version of the Webway) Sigmar even sounds like a Primarch. Then again 40K did come after WHF, but still the hints are there.
It could possibly be a Microcosm of what is going on in WH40k.
wow awesome 40k from a movie xD :v impressive
The God Emperor weeps at your butchery of the English language.
Not all that related really, while some artwork, especially Blanches, gives them massive pauldrons, usually they aren't too bad, take this for example. Theyre rather large by shoulder pad standards but not overly large.
That was a good book. I mean, it's pretty much a retelling of the Odyssey, but it's still great. Anything by Dan Abnett is awesome.
*Imagines the Siege of Troy with spce marines & Trojan Titans*
