i <3 the fall
Oh my GOD. I thought nobody even knew this movie existed. . . . awesome.
why does everybody like Dr Strangelove it was a fucking horrible movie and I couldn't even finish watching it i love stanley kubrick but fuck that movie is terrible
classics: Star wars: at least the 3 original movies(4, 5 & 6) Godfather A Christmas Carol Saving private Ryan Stand by me Pay it forward the shining and at least one 007 movie(the ones before casino royale) recent classics: Inglourius Basterds(think will become a classic) Lord of the rings trilogy the Matrix i know i forgot a whole lot but i need to study for a test
The Goonies
Bladerunner.
I'd always heard good stuff about it, then I watched it and found it mind-numbing.
No Country For Old Men It was only posted in long lists so I give it it's own post.
Tenacious D [editline]10:36PM[/editline] The Ring [editline]10:37PM[/editline] Texas Chainsaw Massacre (all version)
Pulp Fiction
Tron
Requiem For A Dream Camera work is amazing, paired with the best script I've ever heard and acting is stupendous. I broke down and called my mum halfway through it, it hit me hard because my parents are divorced and I don't live with my mom, it was hard to watch Sarah describe how she's a lonely old woman
Inglorious Basterds The Green Mile Who Framed Roger Rabbit
Monty Python and the Holy Grail. A must-see,
Everyone in this thread read bad. :saddowns:
The soundtracks to Into the Wild and Fight Club are amazing.
alien predator saving private ryan full metal jacket none of these are shitty movies

I'm surprised no one has mentioned "Avatar". I personally liked it.
Cube anyone?

Also, no one listed the The Room?
Camera work is amazing
It's really good, although I'd personally say calling it amazing is a cut too far, Pi was better shot in my opinion, and if you want 'amazing', nothing in the last 40 years in Hollywood film really compares to the cinematography of Blade Runner
Metropolis bored me to fuck, what made it worse was having to write an essay comparing it with Terminator 2.
Cheyuh, guy. It's like, I want to like, watch movies with explosions and stuff. [editline]10:49AM[/editline]
seconded, although many people may find it tedious to watch all the way through
Stalker is moving photography. If you don't like photography, you won't like Stalker. [editline]10:53AM[/editline]
It's really good, although I'd personally say calling it amazing is a cut too far, Pi was better shot in my opinion, and if you want 'amazing', nothing in the last 40 years in Hollywood film really compares to the cinematography of Blade Runner
Blade Runner was more of a design film than a cinematography film. It's a shame, we need more films devoted to just coming up with creative worlds. Reminds me, I actually think Tron is a good movie if you cut out all of the 3D and not cyber world sequences. I loved that shit.
Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas [editline]01:47PM[/editline] and A Scanner Darkly, oh god watch that movie the first chance you get.
God Taxi Driver's a fucking incredible film. It really is great.
Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas [editline]01:47PM[/editline] and A Scanner Darkly, oh god watch that movie the first chance you get.
fear and loathing is a better book than it is a movie, same with a scanner darkly
fear and loathing is a better book than it is a movie, same with a scanner darkly
Yeah but this is the Essential MOVIES to Watch thread, not essential books to read, so.... A Scanner Darkly is awesome, I think thats an underated movie. Speaking of PDK adaptations, Minority Report is amazing. (And Blade Runner, obviously)
Tenacious D, yeah. I also recommend man on fire, I saw it at christmas and it was really well made.
Anyone that wants to call himself a movie buff must have seen: Dr. Strangelove Secondhand Lions Any Monty Python film OTHER THAN the Holy Grail Pink Floyd's The Wall History of the World: Part 1 Indiana Jones Series A Couple Hitchcock films Nightmare Before Christmas One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest Full Metal Jacket Big Fish The Producers The Jerk The Blues Brothers Rocky Horror The Original Willy Wonka The Original War of the Worlds (None of that tom cruise shit.) The Original I, Robot. There's probably more, but the rest of my films are downstairs.
Recommend me a handful of movies to watch with my girl friend.
I can't fucking believe no one has said The Iron Giant yet. That movie is amazing.
