Ghost stories that happened to us, eh? Well, this one time when I was playing TF2 in the dark, around 1 in the morning, I decided to go to the fridge to get something to eat. I went down the hallway to the kitchen, and turned on the light to actually see the damn fridge.
My house is just on the edge of the town I live in, with a small wooded area behind it, then a path, then a large common, with a large wooded area just beyond the common. With the light on you can't really see anything outside, 'cuz of the reflections, but the glass doesn't stop sounds from getting in. It's okay if it's just the sounds of horses from the common, but sometimes at night you hear foxes roaming around and screeching that god-awful screech sound they love to make when they're looking for food.
But anyway, I turned my back to the windows and opened up the fridge, before almost shitting myself when I heard one of the foxes outside on the common start yelling. My heart was going at a hundred miles per hour, but I managed to calm myself down and assure myself nothing was about to kill me. When I looked around, I obviously couldn't see out of the window, but I knew that the sound was from the foxes. It's distinctly terrifying if it takes you by surprise.
But anyway, I turned back to the fridge, got a small carton of Ben & Jerry's Cookie Dough ice cream, and went back to the computer. I heard some horses as I went back to TF2, which made me feel better after the scare. I was about to put on my headphones, when the foxes made another noise. The first time, it'd been pant-shittingly terrifying, but now I was ready for it I realised it was just a minor annoyance. So I put on my headphones, turned the volume up loud enough that I couldn't hear anything outside, and started playing again.
A while later, I realised that the room was getting colder. I thought it had just been the cold from the ice cream I was eating, but I realised that the room was definitely getting colder. I stood up again, went out into the hallway, and since I hadn't turned the light off in the kitchen, I saw that the fridge door was open wide. Some food was on the floor, so I assumed that I hadn't closed the door properly and my cat Casey must have realised and taken stuff out of it. I ran into the kitchen to make sure that the food was okay and Casey hadn't eaten too much, but when I got there, there wasn't a cat in sight. In fact, I heard the sound of Casey coming down the stairs to see what all the fuss was about.
I looked around the kitchen to make sure that nothing had got in through an open window or door, but everything was closed. Which made me a little worried. I cleaned up the fridge and went over to the window to see if anything was outside, like a fox or stray cat, so I at least would know what had made its way inside and started eating our food. But as I squinted outside, trying to see what was out there, I noticed that it was still getting colder, even after closing the fridge door. As soon as I realised this, I noticed a small shape outside. I leant forward, trying to make out the finer details, putting my face closer and closer to the glass, until my nose was practically pressed up against it. And then a fucking skeleton jumped out.
