I do not like minimalist aesthetic, especially in regards to game design, which at least seems to be an unpopular opinion among designers. One of the biggest examples that irks me is Skyrim's UI design, even SkyUI's. Skyrim's UI and HUD can be described in very few words. Transparent black bars, generic fonted white text, minimalist icons. While SkyUI does make it look and function better, there's still not much going on. It's embarrassed that it exists, and it just has no identity of it's own whatsoever. Whereas it's predecessor, Oblivion, totally did.

A brassish metal/parchment design with old looking illustrations using primarily deep browns and desaturated blues, and an original and unique font.
Or how about an example outside of fantasy RPGs, here's Fallout 1's

Grungy, post apocalyptic, ramshackle, the area where the person you're talking to is sort of has that bubbly look of an old 1960's tv, and the rest of it looks either made out of metal or like you're looking inside a machine of some kind. It's great.
Hell, even outside games, something you'll be staring a lot at is say, the taskbar of your computer. Sure, XP's looks outdated, but it still has personality where 8 simply doesn't.
I think your UI is an amazing opportunity to enforce your tone and theme and give things personality, and I don't like how people are pushing for it to be wasted on things like flat icons and logos with about one color and a generic font.
I agree with everything you said but the Windows bit, I think trying to give personality to something as broad as an OS just adds pointless clutter. I love 8's plain box interface much more than XP's, it's simple and it works
I prefer pizza without any toppings. Just straight up basic pizza, always.
So cheesebread with some sauce then
I really don't like Skyrim. It just doesn't interest me that much, and it's buggy as hell.
This is really more of a personal preference thing, though.
I liked Skyrim but at the same time it just felt so hollow and bland. Like I say this in the thread all the time but Oblivion just had a certain charm to it. That and the Argonians didn't look shit.
Oblivion's inventory boxes made me sick and confused
Fallouts inventory scrolling was terrible. Having to scroll through everything 1 item at a time. Sometimes minimalist is better.
I think calling games pretentious is bullshit a lot of the time, especially when the reasons people give for that are the exact same things that make other stuff like books or movies good.

Yes, because the argonians in Oblivion looked fucking phenominal
[t]http://gamervets.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/Argonian-Oblivion-vs-Skyrim.bmp[/t]
I'll say this, skyrim, while a tad more dull in terms of world and quests, was still more fun to play than oblivion or morrowind to me. mainly because i actually felt engaged in the combat, which was a big chunk in all three of the 3D elder scrolls titles, and essentially the entire game in the ones before it.
While i think there are a lot of things wrong with it, i still think Skyrim is the best in the series, even if it's predecessors did certain things better, Skyrim as a whole is better than the others.
You have obviously never had a Green Pepper and Onion pizza. Fact is that its the only rype of pizza thats good hot and cold.
You chose literally the worst two toppings for pizza. Every pizza I've had those on end up somewhat crunchy and the flavor of them overwhelms everything else on the pizza. I don't mind them in other stuff but on pizzas they're just atrocious.
green peppers are godlike whatchu talkin' bout
Halo: Reach is the best halo game by a palpable margin.
The style of Reach is my definite favorite compared to all the other Halos; the Spartan III's had the best looking attachments, but I also enjoy the look of the new Spartan IV's in Halo 4.
Nothing can replace the memories I've had online in Halo 3, though.
Reach was one of my favourites armour wise because you could get chunky as fuck with it.
1916 is the best song from Motorhead.
I also enjoy the look of the new Spartan IV's in Halo 4.
That's definitely an unpopular opinion. The extra customization was a welcome sight but imo they look like a total clusterfuck.
Spartan II master race

where the fuck did I say pepperoni?
People on FP are weird, no pineapple, onions, or green peppers. Your lives must all be dull and boring for you reject the best of the toppings.
Unlike what some other people think, a video game market crash would be the last thing you'd want for the market.
Dunno why it's gotten so popular that it would be a good idea.

Because a complete reboot of gaming on the developer's side is totally awesome and has absolutely zero negative consequences for gamers.

No, where the fuck did I say pepperoni. For your information I actually like most toppings on pizza. Including pineapple. I just specifically dislike onions and green peppers for the reasons I explained above. They're crunchy when pizza isn't really a crunchy food and their flavor overpowers everything else on the pizza. If anything disliking them is LESS dull and boring simply for the fact my pizza tastes more like multiple things than tomato sauce and onions/bell peppers with nothing else being strong enough to not be overpowered.

Yeah no.
Completely ignoring the wealth of developers and publishers that would go out of business, and game developers themselves being fired, it would be absolute dogshit for gamers.
People would be weary to make new games and consoles, for fear of the market crashing again (look at the history of the NES, nearly didn't come to the US because of the crash. they were weary it wouldn't sell at all.). There would be a far less variety of games for gamers to play. New ideas would be even fewer and farther in between, because those still left standing would only make what sells in such a market.
Especially now a days when gaming companies are much larger than they were in the early 80's, such a crash would send economic ripples beyond just gaming due to many companies sizes.
It would be the absolute worst thing for gaming.

The first result for 'pepperoni' on this page and the last page is your post so I don't know what you are talking about saying someone brought it up.
Pineapple I find grotesque on pizza. I tend to have a saltier pizza so having something sweet on it is just terrible. But then I don't like pineapple anyway after having tried it alone and on pizza.

its a joke about how peperoni is literally the worst topping - not green pepper and onions.
i thought it would have been pretty clear i wasn't being serious seeing as peperoni is pretty much universally hated.
Pizza is defined as crust, sauce, cheese and pepperoni.
Nothing else.
I refuse to eat it any other way.

Note to self; be more obvious in the sarcasm.
That or just resort to name-calling because what moron would actually acknowledge their own flaws?
Yeah, it was pretty telling that the NES was marketed as an 'entertainment system' rather than a games console.
I refuse to eat pizza because it's so unhealthy
I haven't eaten pizza is ages, not low carb enough.
Still doesn't mean I won't get into debates about the best toppings

You monster.
I'm going to war with the rest of FP over their terrible choice in Pizza Toppings, who's with me!

Pizza is probably the food I miss most while being on keto.
possibly unpopular opinion: i disagree, and i think its stupid to be proud of something you have absolutely no control over. to me saying "im proud to be american" is the same as saying "im proud of my jawline" or "im proud that i can eat a lot and still be skinny"
I get what you mean, I didn't mean that one should consider his heritage as an achievement, but rather that he shouldn't be afraid to express himself in his respective cultural ways.
Granted, "being proud" may be a bit badly worded. It's more about not being afraid of your heritage, and not seeing is as something negative, as a stigma. Obviously that's a very broad subject, not all traditions fit in a civilized world and so on.
Basically, it's lovely to see a British man eating traditional British food, to see a German partying at the Oktoberfest, to see an American celebrating his independence day. It's not a personal achievement, but it's the heritage of an individual which has molded him, and this is not a bad thing at all.

I must disagree.
On its own, it's a fairly decent game, but series wise it's completely terrible. It doesn't fit the style of the rest of the series at all, and has taken steps back in many areas that have made the previous titles great.
In my opinion it's by far the worst game of the series, because it doesn't bow to what makes the series great, although looking at it as a 'standalone game' so to say, it's far from bad.
-snoop-
misread it.
All pizza toppings are fine. My favorite is a simple pepperoni and olive pizza. I don't understand how pepperoni is "universally hated"
