This got me into metal, but that was all I listened to until I bought the album below. This opened me up to, not only Iron Maiden, but with a bit of research, similar bands like Black Sabbath and Motorhead, which in turn got me into thrash metal, which in turn got me into melodeth.
Systematic chaos was the thing that made me love metal. Thanks fish_poke
[img_thumb]http://www.jushustle.com/audio/pinkfriday/nicki-minaj-pink-friday.jpg[/img_thumb] simply because it made me completely revisit what I thought about gender in hip-hop. Throw away your notions about hip-hop being a boys game, Nicki's science dropping is good enough to make some established rappers red-faced.
Except that she still is a slave to sexism and sexploitation in hip-hop.

I have to say Hybrid Theory and Meteora by Linkin Park (fuck you), SOAD and Disturbed, my parents tried to make me listen to only christian crap until i was about 11 then i started with LP. Those got me into the stuff i listen to now, Vegas In Ruins, Unearth, In Flames (older stuff by them), Veil of Maya, Viatrophy etc. out of those first 3 i only listen to SOAD still. [editline]19th December 2010[/editline]
Black Sabbath, Ozzy Osbourne, ZZ Top, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Nine Inch Nails and others I don't recall developed my early taste. A few years ago I was one of those kids who listened to a lot of Linkin Park, 30 Seconds to Mars, Pillar, Three Days Grace, Rise Against, Thousand Foot Krutch etc. I proceeded then to listen to Rage Against The Machine and Rammstein. And finally, [img_thumb]http://drawntodark.files.wordpress.com/2009/04/insomnium.jpg[/img_thumb] I learned to appreciate just about all metal after that.
These bands too. ( <3 Insomnium)
blood mountain i guess i dunno
Abbey Road Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars Master of Puppets The Bends OK Computer
My sister used to listen to this all the time when I was 2. Re-sparked my almost long gone interest in Pink Floyd.
Except that she still is a slave to sexism and sexploitation in hip-hop.
A lot less than anything I've ever seen before. She refers to herself as a cunt in one song, her lyrics generally avoid gender issues, and she has the swagger/mojo/estilo of your average male rapper. Do her promos and photoshoots give off a distinct sexuality? Maybe, but how many male rappers have used a 'bad motherfucker' image to sell their albums? A whole damn lot. The fact that Nicki is a genuinely talented rapper, and not just a gimmicky sideshow, is the reason that I think she'll be pretty influential in the future.

Hold Your Color and various DnB songs various AC/DC albums Abbey Road - Beatles
Like a few other people for me it was Abby Road, manly because back in 6th grade my music teacher taught us all about The Beatles and it opened a new door of music for me. Other than The Beatles I think Weezer turned me on to alternative and Indie. Nah man, they're straight up rock n' roll through and through If Malcolm Young heard you say that he'd give you a piece of his mind :v:

Prior to listening to it, all I listened to was the bad generic nu-metal that plagued the radio stations at the time (2003). All I listened to was Linkin Park, Smile Empty Soul, Taproot, Drowning Pool, Mudvayne, etc. After hearing Sing the Sorrow, I started listening to similar artists, and the bands that inspired AFI; The Cure, the Smiths, Morrissey, Misfits, Bahaus, Nine inch Nails, etc.
wow someone else that likes afi nice
:smithicide:
It doesn't matter who or what gets you into a particular genre, as long as you like it.
I'm just hoping he doesn't think Lincoln Park is Metal
This: And: Before I stumbled upon these albums, I never really paid attention to music. Now, It's one of the most important aspects of my life.
got me into heavier metal rather then just Black Sabbath (who i still adore) and into 80s metal it's a curse though, because of megadeth's technicality i can't listen to simple thrash anymore because i find it boring
The Beatles Magical Mystery tour
I'm just hoping he doesn't think Lincoln Park is Metal
That was years ago, I fucking hate linken park now.
Linkin Park are a good band. Their older stuff was better though
My dad played this for me alot as a kid, along with some Roxy Music (or maybe Brian Ferry) album I don't really remember very well. These got me into rock in general as well as the whole atmospheric side of it. And I'm sure The Prophet's Song helped with my love of prog. Got me into both alternative rock and acoustic music. Got me into the more experimental side of alternative rock, and made me look into Tool, which made me listen to... this beast of an album. This was probably the most influential as it got me into almost all the genres I listen to now. Prog rock, Metal, Ambient; all that. This got me into Porcupine Tree, who are, and have been my favourite band since I was about 11 when I heard this album. And finally, This is one of my favourite albums of all time, and got Opeth up there into my top 3 bands, an album which did a similar thing would be Metropolis Pt 1 is one of my favourite songs, and the solo to Under a Glass Moon is what made me want to play the guitar. Still not good enough to learn it; but that's one of my aims. And that is the story of my music tastes. I'm sure there's plenty of others, but I won't bore you further with them.
Started to get into other acts like Husker Du, Replacements, Ramones, Operation Ivy, tons of other great punk bands.
