Old Merc's are AWESOME. I would love a coupe, but why did they make them all with V8's? I couldn't stand the bad gas millage. If only they made some with the diesel or even the 6 cylinders. In fact, the coupes are one of my favorite body styles,I don't need any more space than that.
You can get a coupe loke the one above with a 2.8 liter straight six. The model is called 280 SLC. I'm not sure if they were imported to America, but there's plenty of them for sale here.

There are dozens of clean, low millage coupes for sale all around me, and not one of them has any other engine than the V8. But veeates sound so good
SHO "fastest production car in the world" my sides it also has those fucking horrible chrome PepBoys plastic wheel covers on it and a stick-on hood scoop
I saw one of those today at someones house. I'm surprised by the SHO's. They make a lot of HP considering their displacement. 220HP at less than 4L? The 5.2L Magnum in my truck makes about that much. [editline]28th May 2014[/editline]
http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/ank/cto/4488233642.html New DD?
That's amazing. That'd be fun to drive!

VLN, if you want a Benz coupe that doesn't have a V8, get a 250-280 C/CE or a 240-300 CD. Only the SEC and SLC were V8 only in the US market, the SLC didn't sell well- I bet you can guess what I want. SLC AMG: [t]http://www.needfortire.com/images/mercedes-benz-500-slc_red_1.jpg[/t] W114-115 CE/CD [t]http://i57.servimg.com/u/f57/12/07/49/57/280_ce11.jpg[/t] C123 CE/CD [t]https://c2.staticflickr.com/6/5085/5330299123_f1be17416c_z.jpg[/t] R107 300SL [t]http://img.pistonheads.com.s3-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/Fullsize/mercedes-benz/sl/mercedes-benz-sl-S1073959-1.jpg[/t] And again, any Benz before 1991 with NO visible rust from looking 2 feet away from the body panels or rust in the jack tubes is not a bad car, but always check for other shit like electrical fuckups, locked brake calipers, and the dreadful smooth transmission(when you floor an old Benz, especially a V8, and its auto, you should be able to really feel the shift.
There is nothing cooler than a Merc coupé with "open" sides, as in pillar-less doors and rear side windows that completely disappears when you open it
There is nothing cooler than a Merc coupé with "open" sides, as in pillar-less doors and rear side windows that completely disappears when you open it
I think MB coupes are the best coupes because of the lack of a B pillar and the range of engines. You can have a diesel coupe, or a 4 cylinder coupe, or a V12 coupe, or a V8. I really want an SLC though because I want to hotrod it(aka make a AMG like car) http://allentown.craigslist.org/cto/4460288731.html http://newyork.craigslist.org/wch/ctd/4466054341.html http://newjersey.craigslist.org/cto/4483363072.html
So you want to modify it, tune it, not hot rod it? Hot rods are usually show cars with a crate popped in it. They look great, but it's not my thing.

Shipping to the left coast would be too much, and I guarantee it had lots of rust.
Nope, no rust.

I hate saying "copy Something Awful" but we should really share their same craigslist cars rule of posting pictures of the listing so it doesn't matter when every link in the thread expires.

And they didn't even convert it to RWD?
http://newhaven.craigslist.org/cto/4493372708.html
I would totally own that JUST to drive it to car shows and stupid stuff. Its just too hilarious to pass up.

Now despite the price, if I bought it and then made it not tatty (fix rust + respray in original colour and possibly interior) would I be able to make a profit off it? I'm mainly asking you americans who'd possibly have experience in this kind of stuff I really just want to drop a 460 in it and make it faster than my evo but idk 460's are pretty expensive here too
You'd have to look at what that kind of cars go for around you, how much it'd run you to fix it up.
http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/warnbro/cars-vans-utes/original-1979-lincoln-continental-/1047259193 These are pretty rare here. Replacing it with a 460 removes that appeal, but also adds a different appeal. It depends on how much you're going to modify it and a vast number of other factors. If that mileage is also correct, that's something else to consider. Really there's no easy way to say what it will go for.
Mark V Continentals aren't anything special really, no matter if they're rare over there or not. Putting a 460 in it isn't very much like heresy and probably won't kill the value much(since the Mark V did actually come with a 460 in a lot of the cars). The 400 in that car is pretty neat though, its a 400 cleveland, AKA good heads. shit everything else. A 460 would make that car better in all aspects, as lets just say cleveland motors aren't the most reliable things on earth, as they have shit ass bottom end oiling and no power potential without fucking something up p much. I say buy car, do 460
