wait. i don't recall OP saying he couldn't drop classes without paying
here.
If worst comes to worse, can't he just drop all of his classes, relieving him of all payments and wait until next semester to start school?
[editline]09:14PM[/editline]
just because you applied for classes doesn't mean you're stuck making payments to school.
College is free in the UK? Fuck, I feel like I'm living in the stone age.
No. It's free in Scotland.
Devolved government :)
By college in the UK, I assume people are meaning University because college = 6th form, and University is not free.
Don't write checks you can't cash.

Free in Scotland.
All Education, except private. But who wants private education anway? You may end up running the country, but not quite.
Come to Scotland. Where education is freeeeee
SNP lead the way!
Silly Americans having to pay for college.
The trade off is that all of that money goes into the school and as a result we have amazing universities
Drop out and clean urinals for the rest of your life.
Here in portugal that happens all the time... some of my colleagues only recieve financial aid 5, 6 even 7 months after the deadline payment.
Education should be free.
The trade off is that all of that money goes into the school and as a result we have amazing universities
As someone who's been to both. University of Texas in the States, and Stockholm University in Sweden. I'd say they're about the same.
No. It's free in Scotland.

:scotland: don't forget about the free healthcare.
Come to Europe and get free education, just don't Greece they dont have any money.

17/25 of these are US universities and none of them are the University of Texas

I'm not saying all of our schools are amazing but we have a ridiculous number of the top schools in the world

So you would rather spend ridiculus amounts of money to get a little better education than get it free?

You have a ridiculous amount of schools in general. Sweden couldn't have 17/25 colleges because there's only 16 Universities in Sweden. (14 public, 2 private)
Stockholm is number 88 on that list, which is still quite good when you consider how many universities there are.

Did I say that?
Silly Americans having to pay for college.
our college = your university
-snip-
Did I say that?
No thats why im asking :)
Now that I consider it, yes, at least with my major being physics. If I were a liberal arts major I probably wouldn't give a fuck but I'm pretty much after the best schooling I can get.

And how much will your education cost then?
A lot but it will be worth it. Over the course of a lifetime the average graduate with a Bachelor's degree makes $1,000,000 more than they would have otherwise which means it will pay for itself 20 times over.

But not the best school system, so what does it matter if you have the top schools when kids cant get into them?
I'll just put this here...

I can believe that, but i think the problem with USA is there is no free alternatives.

I didn't do well enough in high school to get in any university pretty much, except I went to community college, buckled down and did well, and now I'm transferring into a university. We're given plenty of chances to succeed.

This. The top ten schools you listed are very hard to get into, and very expensive, even compared to other private universities.
I can believe that, but i think the problem with USA is there is no free alternatives.
Honestly I think education should be free through university and college. No kid's chances to succeed financially should depend on how much money their parents can pay for their education, but education in the US is not as bad as a lot of people make it out to be.
This. The top ten schools you listed are very hard to get into, and very expensive, even compared to other private universities.
Yhea... Lottery?
It looks like the average kid does not have a chance in USA.
This. The top ten schools you listed are very hard to get into,
It'd be hard to be the best if anyone could get in
and very expensive, even compared to other private universities.
Not actually, no. Princeton, for example, is an incredibly rich school. It costs a ton of money to go there, but they give away so much money to their students that over the course of a 4-year education, the average indebtedness for a student graduating is only $2,000. That's less than a semester at the community college I went to.
