My Mums boyfriend made an impulse purchase in the summer (wasn't using facepunch at the time) on ebay. Horribly (mechanically) unreliable car, but he still loves in dearly. Currently stored for the winter. Shame the only photo of it is this one in the rain (with my car beside it!).
Unreliable Golf? I didn't know those existed
I thought 90's VW's were pretty well known for being unreliable. Atleast that is how it is here.
Unreliable Golf? I didn't know those existed
I know :( Its electrics are all fully functioning, but it forever leaks petrol, oil and regularly breaks down, and things like door handles and petrol caps have come off in his hand. But you never know how the car was treated by its previous owners.

My 2.0 TDCi Ford Focus, Its been chipped and I've changed the wheels and put a bodykit. Going to be fitting twin exhausts in the coming weeks

I loathe Winter will a passion.... Washed and washed it on New Years eve: And then drove about 25KM Between yesterday and today... Under statement. My city "privatized" Snow clearing about 10 years ago, and sold off the their fleet of plows. So now to save money they avoid plowing as much as possible, and use as much salt as possible. My winter wheels are only a year old but already rusting. I'm also losing the battle with the underside of my car, rust forming on small nicks and scratches on welds/seams. At this point I'm washing it 3 - 4 times a week....
I hate salt
I feel your pain bro: (Click the pictures to open them in another window full size and look at the circled parts) [t]http://i40.tinypic.com/260qxcp.jpg[/t] [t]http://i39.tinypic.com/316l1s7.jpg[/t] Not only did the salt shit they laid down rip through my brand new paint, but through the old paint as well, straight down to the metal, and even then did damage to it, dented it and shit by the looks of it, i can't tell without having it in front of me.. [editline]2nd January 2012[/editline] Shit, i even got paint removed half way down my door in the second pic, fucking pissed me off the first time i saw all this
That's the second crap-tastic part bout sand and salt. Literally getting sandblasted by other traffic and on the highway. My mom lives in a rural Village and is on the highway constantly. The rear bumper on her 2006 Malibu has what looks like splash marks, but is actually where sand/salt has taken the paint off right down to the plastic underneath. My rear bumper is starting to show signs of the clear-coat being blasted off, but luckily My Hit-and-run accident last month means I'm getting a new Rear bumper. Only option is those ugly Molded Splash Gaurds.
It's mine once I fix the coolant leak.

I barely have enough to pay for the living and I have to put my supra in storage for the winter or else it will become all rusty in about a year and bough a other car as a DD/GG
I thought 90's VW's were pretty well known for being unreliable. Atleast that is how it is here.
Most modern VWs are pretty poor actually. In the 80s and 90s VW did an amazing job with their marketing campaign of raising the Golf above the rest of the hatchbacks but back then they had the build quality and style to back it up, they are still doing it today with their "Like a Golf" campaign but in reality VW, more importantly modern VW diesels are pretty unreliable. They'll see the warranty through but after that the complex designs of the diesel engines begin to fall apart. A lot of cars I see on the roadside with their bonnets up are modern members of the VAG group.
New golfs are pretty underpowered, even the sport ones.
It was reported that the last two Golfs had a surprisingly high amount of claims made on their warranties.
The funny thing is that I don't. My job isn't very well paid compared to my responsibilities and tasks. I manage 30 mobile car glass fitting technitians together with another guy, at Carglass Denmark. My job is basically to manage and plan a route for my technitians, and be at their availability in the office, and answer the phone when then call in with problems, like they can't find an adress, brought wrong piece of glass etc. My title is called logistics coordinator, but it's not as fancy as it sounds, and I'm uneducated. But I love my job though. All my collegues, including my bosses and the CEO. My boss is a gearhead too, and we even went to do some illegal drag racing a couple of times. Couldn't beat his 407 V6 though. I have 30 of these going in and out constantly. It can be a nutcracker at times
Still looks like a pretty sweet deal. Its already hard enough to get a job here in Portugal, let alone a job that pays as nicely as that.
not bad at all [editline]2nd January 2012[/editline] Looks nice tbh
it does look nice, tasteful, not ricey
I've got to hate the fucking sand they put everywhere in the road, mix it to the salt and calcium, it makes up for a fucking nice mess. I cleaned some rust that formed on the chipped paint due to rocks, and then put some clear coat on it to help some, but winter fucking sucks.
I fell sorry for people up north having to put up there nice summer car's so they don't rust away. In Texas I run Summer tires for 10 month's thin use AT's for 2 month's.
I wish I would've stored the car for the winter, but alas, it's my only car. And I've had my winter tires since October, and probably going to have them up to late April. Dem damn Blizzak, at least they're good tires, handles better than my damned crappy summer tires. But for FWD Cars, Grand Prix handles really REALLY well in the snow and ice. Heck no loss of control at 75mph in a snowstorm with roads not plowed. But anyway, next summer, I'm going to get the body reworked on, so there's no rust anywhere, and then, get a fresh new paint, keeping it bright red, but hey, a new bright red is better than a pinkish bright red, right? :v: You may call me crazy, but I'm getting my top swap done in the winter. Probably going to stick the supercharger in it in late February.
Although I wanna get a beater for winter, I'd really miss the remote start and stability Control on this car in the winter. And It handles Great in the winter as Wolves said (W-Body platform, same car as the Grand prix under the impala skin). Thought I'm thinking of dropping $5-8K and getting another 09+ Impala 9c1 (Police Intereceptor package).
I think some cars look better dirty. If my car ended up like that I wouldn't wash it! I use to have mud sprayed up my doors and wingmirrors from driving in a field before rain got to it :/
In prior years I used to leave it dirty like this, since my car looked just like many of the un-marked police cruisers in my city (which never get washed). Always found it amusing how many people got really nervous about their driving when I was around. But with the Vanity plates and Custom headlights, I prefer keeping it clean.
Hell-Yeah another W-Body represent! Is yours 3800 Powered? And as we both said, those cars handles very good in harsh winter conditions, even though they're FWD. As for being clean, before winter, I remember going to car meets this summer and people always thought I had just cleaned my car, and I was like "Nope, haven't for weeks, just came back from the sandpit too :v:" For some reason, on sand/dirt, it cleaned by itself, the only thing it didn't clean, was bird shit. But on the winter, it's a two tone car, the top is red, the bottom is, brown, white, red, pink, sandy.
