M4 Carbine.
not an m4 0/10
Well I couldn't find any proper pictures. All I get when I google M4 are M4A1's.
Is the thing in the picture what you mean because that's not an M4 at all. It's an M727, which is just the M16A2 carbine and the step before the M4. But it stops being cool if you call it an M4 because M4s are horrible and boring and terrible. You can make a 727 just by buying a G&P M4 and putting some slim handguards, old stock, and A2 body on it. Now the XM4, that's a fine piece of ass. [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/9988278/gunsnshit/XM4USMC_zpsdfe5c9ff.jpg[/t] (it's just a 727 with 'XM4' written on it, because Xs make everything cooler.) Only downside is the ugly fat-ass M4 handguards.
Well I think the old M4's with the fixed carry handle are cool because of Delta Force 2, a childhood game of mine.
If it has a fixed carry handle it's generally not called an M4. The M4 was the first one without a fixed handle, so you're not going to find any by searching for that. There are a LOT of guns exactly like that already available for airsoft. Here are a few: http://shop.ehobbyasia.com/gandp-m733-aeg.html http://shop.ehobbyasia.com/g-p-m653-aeg.html#.Uw-BI878f_k http://shop.ehobbyasia.com/gandp-m653-car-15-aeg.html#.Uw-BLM78f_k http://shop.ehobbyasia.com/gandp-xm177e2-aeg.html#.Uw-BO878f_k http://shop.ehobbyasia.com/gandp-xm177e2-with-m203-aeg.html#.Uw-BQ878f_k http://shop.ehobbyasia.com/gandp-xm177e1-airsoft-aeg.html#.Uw-BQ878f_k A2 uppers are less common on them but it's so worth it to build one. [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/9988278/airsoft2014/727_2014/727_4.JPG[/t] mmmmmmm
I thought that the M4 was the one based on the A2 with the fixed carry handle and 3-round burst and that the M4A1 was the one based on the A3 with the railed top and full auto setting. HAS MY ENTIRE LIFE BEEN A LIE!?!?!?!?!
I don't know too much about the development of the M4 and how it relates to the A3 but i'm pretty sure the M4A1 and M4 are the same thing. If there are any differences they're probably only minor and i bet the stock 'M4' still has a flat top. The M4 is just the most recent in a line of guns that are usually referred to as 'Colt Commando', that started with the XM177 and the CAR-15. The naming system for them is confusing but i just refer to them by the model number. 727 is basically an M4 with an A2 upper, 733 is an M4 with an A1 style upper with an added brass deflector, 653 is an A1 upper with a long, slim barrel, 609/610/629 are the XM177, XM177E1 and XM177E2, and the 607 is what everyone calls the CAR-15. Most of the carbines after the XM177 i don't think actually had an official military designation besides 'carbine' or 'colt commando' as far as i'm aware. The M4 is something like the M933 but since it has a military designation it's just always known as that.
M4 is safe/semi/burst and the M4A1 is safe/semi/auto also the colt model numbers for the m4 and the m4a1 are M920 and M921
Actually, the Colt M720 was the first rifle adopted as the "M4"
which is just like the M727, except safe/semi/burst
[t]http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b328/jcrowl/Miscellaneous/Colt723_733-1.jpg[/t] So, the M720 has an A2 upper, but the 723 and 733 are the 'A2 carbine' but have uppers with A1 sights and brass deflectors. But the M720 and M727 have A2 uppers. The model number really doesn't reflect what kind of uppers these things have. Even i don't know half of this shit and i like to think early M16s are my area of expertise.
All this talk just makes me more aware of how bad I am at firearm identification. M4 = shorter with extenda-stock M16 = longer with full stock XM171 or whatever = weird big flash hider thing don't even get me started on AK variants
The M4 has three round burst capability, while the M4A1 has full auto fire capability. The very earliest M4s delivered to the U.S. Army had fixed carry handles and were known in Colt's catalog as the Model 777; however, soon after, the military started buying the Model 920, which featured a detachable carry handle, but continued to call these guns "M4s". Contrary to popular misconception, the carry handles on most M4s and M4A1s are detachable, and most of these carbines are used with the carry handle removed, and a folding rear sight and optic being attached to the receiver instead. As far as the procurement program has always been concerned, the burst/auto capability is the only difference between an M4 and M4A1, however, more recently produced M4A1s also have a thicker barrel profile under the handguards along with a heavier buffer to slow the rate of fire, meaning that the weapon is more controllable during fully automatic firing and is less prone to overheating.
sauce: http://www.imfdb.org/wiki/M4_Carbine#M4.2FM4A1_Carbine So actually, the carbine with the M203 that was posted further up could very well be an original M4 back before the switch to flat-top upper and full-auto. We can't see the markings on the fire selector in that picture. So nice of the military to use the same designation for different shit, right? Kinda like the M1, and the M3, etc.
Guys I got this http://www.imfdb.org/wiki/Colt_AR-15_Identification_Guide

IFAP has the weirdest fetish for old ARs.
It's because they're classy as fuck. there aint nothing classy about a flat top
Unless it's the A1 flat top. That shit's sexy
What 'A1 flat top' are you talking about? The one without the forward assist?
Nah that's a slabside. I'm talking about the "M16A1 special low profile" Also, it'll take some doing but I want to make an M723 [editline]27th February 2014[/editline] Not quite sure what to do about that barrel though [editline]27th February 2014[/editline] It's a 14.5" A1 profile [editline]27th February 2014[/editline] conversely I could do a 653, since G&P makes one that's pretty much spot on Colt G&P
'Slickside' refers to the upper without the forward assist and brass deflector, 'Slabside' refers to the lower without the fencing on the magwell. Since it's a big slab of metal. And that's the M656. You can do an M723 if you just buy that G&P and put the right upper on it.
Problem is finding the upper, I've only seen it on the "G&P AR15A2" which is basically an early C7 Also the only difference between the 653 and the XM177E1(which I already have) is barrel length, flash hider and bayonet mount, so it'd be pretty damn redundant
It's not redundant if you care about getting it right. I care a lot about that kind of thing, which is why i'm going to go broke trying to find another slickside upper for my next build instead of just using the 653/C7 upper i have as a spare for my M727 :v: And i need to find the right flash hider to use for my M231. And an A2 lower for my M727 since it's got the wrong lower. And a duckbill flash hider for my next build too. :v: I'll probably have to buy another complete G&P M16 VN reciever set to get another slickside upper, then i'll have another lower kicking around so i'll have to find an upper for that, and the cycle will repeat until this is my room: [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/9988278/gunsnshit/AR15wall2.jpg[/t]
I meant it'd be redundant to have both and XM177E1 and a 653 [editline]27th February 2014[/editline] I wish colt made a model 393 AR :v:
the past 20 posts are pretty much why i stopped caring about AR variants altogether
yeah man that's why i love russhit instead of having to memorize all of LBT's product numbers and all of the AR variants I just have to memorize every single 6Ш- and 6Б-xxx rig, learn the distinctions between all of the smershes, and memorize all of the AK variants!!! wait
AK variants are way easier to remember in my experience
Hang on, just lemme bring out a thing Taiwanese OKAY POSTED once... [t]http://img15.imageshack.us/img15/3791/completeak.jpg[/t]
