I'd just epoxy the shit on and than have custom trademarks made to stick on and than tacti-fuck it out with like a slick red dot and than use it for a really high speed JSDF kit.

Also speaking of guns I wish they made. What ever happened to the Real Sword M4's?

Pretty sure they are still working on it.
Didn't someone post pictures of it somewhere just recently? I swear I saw pictures of it at IWA2014 just like yesterday.

Every time I see this picture I think it's a necklace because of the chain.

Flavor Flav would approve.
Not a gun but a part.

This makes me moist.
Oh yes that is glorious. mmmmmmm. I used to dislike AKs sheerly because there was no really good and not hideous way to mount 20mm rails, but now I have no excuse.

That is against the point of an AK
That is against the point of an AK
You mean to provide relatively accurate, and hard hitting automatic firepower in a maneuverable and lightweight package?
Because that was the point of the AK.
been playing a lot of Fallout recently, and this would be pretty cool to have, except maybe with a stock

I thought the point of the AK was thatt it could barely be maintained and still fire like when it came out tha box, and even a a barely trained soldier who knows nothing about cleaning or fixing a rifle could use an AK 70% of the time
I'm also sure that's the reason why mister Kalashnikov was upset about making it because of those dirty terrorizers having a bunch of operational AKs
Speaking of sexy Russian gear I want a semi auto Saiga-12, i'm trying to get OMON gear and having fitting weapons for CQB and that'd be a shotgun i really want, but all of the saigas I look up are shatty spring action bungdungs
Did Mikhail Kalashnikov ever actually express any disdain for tactical AK's or is that just something emanating from all the AK purists online?

go to quotes
I don't see anything in there about tactical AK's at all.

I mean that's basically the unofficial "secondary" tenant of any and all Russian-made firearms since at least the Mosin-Nagant m91/30. With a country the size and scope of Russia, and having to train and arm a massive amount of possibly illiterate conscripts, you WOULD need a weapon that is simple and easy to maintain and operate, but I don't think that was the first idea for the AK to be. Considering that Kalashnikov wanted to originally design farming equipment, which is equipment that needs to be simple and easy to maintain and repair by less-inclined farmers, then that design philosophy would automatically seep into Kalashnikov's work.
I suggest reading "The Gun" by C.J. Chivers which gives a very detailed look into the history of the AK relative to it's role in the world of machine guns. The first couple of chapters deal heavily with the development of the machine gun, starting with the original Gatling gun, and really hammers in the idea that the development of these weapons was spurred by the world's armies desire for such automatic firepower being wielded by the average infantryman.

I really don't think Kalashnikov would have any disdain for tactical AKs. He designed the AK to give his country's army an edge against its enemies, and if the idea of bolting on rails to mount different optics and accessories was standard practice in the late '40s, then he most likely would have designed his AK with rails. You have to remember that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and that the AK was never meant to be a work of art but it's wood and steel aesthetic is attractive to many people (I myself included, but I'm not a purist) An AK is meant to be a strict, no-nonsense piece of military equipment meant for a source of firepower for the user, and "tactical" modification is just part of that idea.
Also AKs work well for Russian/Soviet doctrine of advancing in a skirmish line and putting out dakka
It's interesting because a lot of WWII Soviet tactics, experience and whatnot seems to "influence" the AK because it fits so well for that purpose: having a well rounded reliable weapon for dakka-ing at range or close quarters and is easy to maintain
It's pretty different from Murrikan' M16/M14 design philosophy where erryone is a riffelman and snipes everything with the M16/M14

This, exactly. Here in the states our military was still holding onto the old guard standard of flat trajectories and and long-range engagements (which originated sometime after smokeless gun powder came about) Which resulted in the M14 basically being an upgrade of the M1 Garand that they should have did in the first place (Chambered in .308, detachable 20 round magazine, accurate out to a thousand yards) This long-range idea still had its fangs sunk into the M16 (it's a pretty accurate platform out to 300-400 yards, which still wasn't needed during Vietnam) And I think it's starting to make a comeback due to our forces' experience in Iraq and Afgahnistan (with long-range engagements and the need for higher penetration power)

That might be my bad
He wasn't referring to tactical AK's in general but that he regretted creating the Original AK (no rails early version) because of terrorists having a large number of them
But they don't really have tactical AK's and he didn't mention them so my apologies

This probably has something to do with why guns like the M14 EBR and SCAR-H are seeing so much use. More range, more accuracy at that range, more stoppin' powah when it gets there, etc.
I love the pictures of the DM's using literally surplus wooden M14s as opposed to the newfangled EBRs and EMRs and shit
I love the pictures of the DM's using literally surplus wooden M14s as opposed to the newfangled EBRs and EMRs and shit
Probably because their unit finds it more affordable and economical to issue them the old M21s than to retrofit their existing stock with EBR kits. Also the EBR is heavy and unbalanced as fuck.

Lithuania and Estonia do this. Except Lithuania is replacing their M14s with the sniper variant of the SCAR-H.

The extra 3.5 metric tons the EBR kit adds to the front of the gun is not worth the rails and the adjustable stock you get out of it.
Also, you have to kill something beautiful in the process.
I want a 1903 bongfield for north afrika/guadalbong events.

There's enough space in there to fit about four AEG gearboxes so i doubt it'd be too hard.
Shell ejecting GBB version though please.
