The cruelty alot of people do behind the mask of anonymity. Like that guy who had his airforce career ruined after fapping on camera for money.
AND you'll also find lots of "lol religion is 4 fags lolol" and "stoopid people believe in da imaginary sky fairy Y U NO LIEK SCIENCE", with lots of agrees, no less. If atheists want to stop being stereotyped as angsty, fedora-wearing neckbeards, then they should stop fulfilling the stereotype.
I see this on r/atheism, and that is basically all. FP used to be like this back when I joined but we have since improved and also taken a step backwards (hint: you're an example of what I was talking about) I also don't understand the fedora and neckbeard thing. Like, what, does wearing an ugly hat and having bad facial hair literally make you a bad person? It's a hell of a lot easier to make someone look stupid or wrong when you depict them as unattractive and socially inept. It's like religious people have this bubble around them where anyone who criticizes them or disagrees with them is automatically a fedora-wearing neckbeard obese, etc, person. Criticize actions, not physical appearance, man.
wearing an ugly hat.
Fedoras aren't inherently ugly, they just don't work as well with today's fashion. Hell, half the guys in L.A. Noire (for example) were wearing fedoras and they look stylish as hell, cause it's the forties and the hats looked good with the suits they were designed around. Nowadays the hats have fallen out of style and are worn mostly by people who have a weird fetish for vintage "classy" shit, and the atheist internet neckbeards tend to fall into that category a lot, which is ironic because they're generally unkempt slobs.
Although it's annoying to see people vent out their aggression on the internet, I suppose it's better than the alternative.
How Imgur went from being a simple, quality image host into a somehow even shittier version of Reddit.
cranks and quacks
a mother uploaded a video of her dead child (died of cancer btw) being carried out by her dad from her bed, put on a stretcher etc. literally the saddest and most heartbreaking video i ever saw. and youtube still hasn't taken it down yet. seriously. why would youtube not take it down.
Tumblr .gifs (and Tumblr itself), people who type "p." instead of "pretty" i.e "p. sure", bronies. EDIT: Memes in general, too. Everything about them.
People who don't know when to use a fucking apostrophe so they use it every fucking time a word has an S in it. [editline]25th August 2013[/editline] Also, people, who use commas, in the middle of a normal fucking sentence (as I just demonstrated)
People who get whiny when you correct their grammar/spelling. [editline]25th August 2013[/editline] "its the internet i dont have to spell right"
When people try to ruin someones life just for fun or because they don't like that person.
I see this on r/atheism, and that is basically all.
You may hate the idea but I've seen it in many more places than Reddit I don't even go there I don't pay attention to anything from it So in reality I've seen it more ELSEWHERE, outside of Reddit I've even seen that shit in real life
What I hate? The culture of hating everything. You really, really, really don't see anywhere as much hate as this in the actual world. Why do you have to get mad about everything? It's the internet, for Christ sakes, most of the things you're hating on will never even get the chance to impact you in any way, especially not if you don't willingly subject yourself to it! Are you trying to prove something by hating on stuff? Is there a tank somewhere filling up with your angst that can be redeemed for delicious chocolate chip cookies delivered by cute kittens riding on the backs of happy corgis?
This is kind of a statement about people in general, but I see quite a bit of it on the internet. Some people already hit on it..but people who act like because they do certain things (e.g. play indie games or even just cod, frequent a forum, some other random thing) they are some entirely different species of humans than those who don't do those things. Like they are in a secret kiddy club as someone else put it. Or they do/say things they think are "edgy" and "dark" and concededly lament their "twisted, screwed up" personality in the hopes of appearing unique/clinically insane for some reason.
I actually like memes. Get a good chuckle or two out of one that's not overused. Then there is my friend who ironically likes memes or something. He's made fun of them in the past yet often messages me with a meme. I just can't keep up with all of them, they're like a ton of inside jokes that only work half the time.
It seems incredibly easy for hate cults and personality cults to form around people. Do you hate them, or did you just hear about how terrible they are by proxy? Vice-versa for praise of the person.
I really hate when people try to debate using all lowercase and either open or close their statement with "lol" or "lmao" or :) but then criticize you on your debating skills. If you want me to take you seriously then don't use textspeak or emoticons, it's not cute or intellectual it's just douchey. I also hate how people argue for something using charts or studies but when you post a chart or a study that contradicts theirs "it's invalid! It's not the same! Correlation =/= causation!" Short answer is, I hate debating with immature fuckwads.
I hate how people who don't type with punctuation are usually seen out to be either stupid or a troll, or not typing with punctuation makes someone's post or opinion invalid. As if how someone types is more important than the content of their post.
The problem I have with this is that it's meant to try an convey a sense of apathy, and that makes it useless to try and discuss anything with that user. I mean, if someone's going to do that, I'm only going to assume that what comes next is, "ok". Why? It happens all the time. Typing without capitalization and punctuation isn't bad, but don't expect anybody to take you seriously. [editline]26th August 2013[/editline]
What I hate? Sure, the people in STGYM over in the Fast Threads forum are exactly that, but I've been in situations where I've said something like, "There's a lot of Daft Punk I don't like," and someone makes that trademark response, "You're just miserable/hating everything/hipster/etc." I'm not the kind of guy to just point at everything and say "it sucks", there's usually reasons for it. And that brings me to my next point: People who get mad at people for getting mad piss me off. I love people who get downright angry at everything. I love George Carlin and I love Maddox for this reason. Obviously if someone's mad, they're not mad just because they're miserable people - most people who are angry are usually the most optimistic - including me. I get angry at all kinds of stuff because I hold the mentality that everything can be better - and when other people don't share that or are content with the BS they're being served it doesn't help. I don't like certain portions of Daft Punk not because I'm sitting there thinking, "How can I be hipster or outrageous today?" I think a good portion of their music is terrible because they're literally loops of pre-existing songs with little to no editing. I've explained this before to no avail, because I was still deemed "a miserable guy", "jealous", and numerous other stupid things that I generally forgot about because I realized those people are useless anyway. Complaining is what brings up issues for consideration, and the discussion of those issues is what pushes people towards new opinions, calling out when the issue reoccurs, and over all socialization. It definitely goes too far a lot when it hits STGYM level (did I mention that thread sucked?) but don't confuse people bringing up stuff that sucks as being simply being miserable people. Little kids that should learn to shut up when told lol.
Little kids that should learn to shut up when told lol.
I actually think that some people are a bit harsh on little kids at times - especially considering they're little. There's a few kids I've played with that were totally fine and weren't annoying - I actually thought they were more tolerable than some of the adults I've played with before. Yet, because they were young and their voice was a bit too high, people resorted to instantly attacking them.

I've met furries who were cool people, i've met homestucks who were cool people, i have several brony friends who don't go around posting bad YouTube comments, i have some christian friends who don't believe the bible is literally the only credible source of info ever, and i have atheist friends who don't say that religious people are all worshiping unicorns. to sum it up, i hate people who stereotype blindly and hate everyone in a group just because of the rare bad mouthing member.
i really don't see the hate for Tumblr, yes of course there are tons of annoying fandoms and cringey feminist. but that is really a problem if you follow these people, but if you only post things that interest you, and only follow people who have the same interests as you, then you only see things you want to see. So all those cringepics of tumblr comments, and annoying blogs, aren't spread all over everything, you have to search for them to see what they are spewing out. So if i like graffiti and cats, then i only follow blogs that have things to do with cats and graffiti, end of story
One of the biggest problems with fans is that some of them will literally defend anything to death. If you state disagreement or any dislike of their interest then they will backlash and try to rip you a new asshole as if it had a major stint in their life. This is the kind of stuff that actually turns people away from whatever it was they were interested in and hurts it. I remember this happened exactly to someone when Yahztee released a new comedic review. This guy was a general fan of his videos but thought there were a few issues with that specific one. He posted constructive critism of it yet fans tried to rip him out a new one for it. Because of that he was turned off from watching his videos for a few years until recently. Some videogame let's players actually mentioned the same thing. They don't approve of that kind of behaviour and don't want people thinking they're doing them a favour for it. It's the #1 biggest reason why I usually stay away from fan communities because I don't want the chance of seeing anything like that. It's just immature and I don't want to associate myself with the fans who do that.
People who get whiny when you correct their grammar/spelling. [editline]25th August 2013[/editline] "its the internet i dont have to spell right"
Not to be a duck but I honestly don't like people who go out of their way to correct everyone's spelling mistake. [editline]27th August 2013[/editline] Dick* fuckin autocorrect
Chuck Norris bullshit. He's a racist republican nutshit and as nasty as they come.
his is the kind of stuff that actually turns people away from whatever it was they were interested in and hurts it.
Indeed. If I had a tenner for every TV show that has been ruined for me in this manner I'd be able to buy boxsets of them all on DVD. Notable examples: Dr Who, Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, but they're by no means the only ones.
I can't stand xenophobic people.
Sensationalist Headlines.
lmao really? looks like someone needs to learn2debate :) Dumb jab at everything we just said we hate, sorry, that was...pretty stupid.
lmao really? looks like someone needs to learn2debate :)
uh, okay then.
Chuck Norris bullshit. He's a racist republican nutshit and as nasty as they come.
I've read one of his books and from that he doesn't really seem racist, although he does believe that the bible should be taught in schools, which, yeah, but in other respects he's pretty moderate.
