Regardless of its giant robot content, I despise fight scenes that involve the camera moving around, and it's insanely prevalent in modern films to shakeycam the shit out of fight scenes. The only shake I want in my camera is unavoidable stuff from the cameraman rushing around.
Advanced screening watchers are giving out positive responses, including some reviewers.

I'd love to see a longshot in this movie.
New clip on IGN; "Elbow Rocket". It's a short fight scene, no spoilers, but watch at your own risk. http://www.ign.com/videos/2013/06/28/pacific-rim-elbow-rocket-clip EDIT: Ah, nevermind, it's on youtube: [hd]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lLuZPIc8nSk[/hd]
This clip sold me. I was so worried that the fighting was going to be like the other CG movies, but hnnnggggg.
Yeah, the action is very clear in that video, and I've heard it is aswell with the rest of the film.
The action's clear, it just feels a bit too slow for me... hm [editline]29th June 2013[/editline] I watched it again and I retract my comment.

From what I've seen current preview reviews say spectacular action/effects, while thoughts on the drama range from great to meh to horrible
From what I've seen current preview reviews say spectacular action/effects, while thoughts on the drama range from great to meh to horrible
I don't really care about the drama all I want is giant robot monster fights. Obviously a decent story would be a plus, though.
What are the chances that somewhere in this movie one of these robots picks up not just a ship, but a landmark and smacks the shit out of one of those creatures with it? I'm thinking lifting up the Eiffel Tower and using it like a spear, or pitching the Statue of Liberty's head at one of those things(Statue of Liberty shenanigans are obligatory).
Neither of those landmarks are in the Pacific, bro.
This is a thread about a film with giant robots that could (And SHOULD) hit Lovecraftian monsters with an assortment of national landmarks. Take your reality and bugger off. I want to see something get impaled on mount Rushmore with Nelsons column.
Technically, the monsters aren't Lovecraftian, as Guillermo already denied a connection to the Mythos.
This movie looks like it could be a Lovecraftian story without explicitly saying so. Depending on how they explain where the creatures might be coming from, and how they got here, this could be a pretty damn good mashup of Japanese, Sci-fi, Mech, and frickin' Lovecraftian influences all in one!
I still want that 'At the Mountains of Madness' movie
I still want that 'At the Mountains of Madness' movie
It's a shame that Prometheus probably put that on hold for the next ten years.

Jesus christ they overused the 'Today we're cancelling the apocalypse!' Its in like every goddamn trailer
But one would think that cancelling the apocalypse is a big thing to do?
what is being cancelled again i missed it
More reviews rolling in from preview screenings on Twitter. Almost unanimous consensus is "acting/script/characters really aren't that good, but the visuals and the action are absolutely spectacular and more than make up for the flaws, enough so that this movie is strongly recommended."
dinner, unfortunately.
So that's why all the monsters are attacking cities
This film looks so utterly stupid and over the top. Can't fuckin' wait.
I get to see this for free on Sunday. When we aren't cleaning for hours, being in the military has it's perks.
Hideo Kojima is giving out high praise: http://kotaku.com/hideo-kojima-reviews-pacific-rim-in-eight-tweets-680304164
