One thing that I didn't understand [sp]Why didn't they use Gypsy Dangers sword before ? As far as I understand, Raleigh had used GD for quite awhile, then while fighting the flying Kaiju, Mako pointed out that it had a sword what pretty much sliced the Kaiju in half [/sp]
All the one researcher reminded me of was Owen from Torchwood..

[sp]Didn't Mako say they made some modifications to Gypsy? That may be why he wasn't aware, because no one mentioned it.[/sp]
Back from the movie.
Holy fuck.
HOLY FUCK.
I wore a smile the entire movie, and, I SHIT YOU NOT, I had tears of joy streaming down my face.
I am so satisfied. Exceeded all expectations, I want everyone to go see this movie.
Also Charlie Day was definitely channeling Iron Man 2 Sam Rockwell
How is the 3D in this? is it gimmicky, add onto it like Avatar, or no difference from standard?
I thought the 3D was amazing. Though, I didn't have a choice because I really wanted to see it in XD, and the only option was 3D XD (which I highly recommend) or standard.
I'd really like to see this in an Imax theater, but the only shows I can find are Imax 3D, and I hate watching movies in 3D
Where'd you get the Kaiju?
Are they doing a toy line for this movie?
Don't bother with the toy, get this to show off

Honestly I thought this film was the worst I've seen this year
EVERYTHING aside from the action was fucking terrible (Ron Pearlman and Idris Elba were pretty good)
There wasn't enough action, you don't see any other Jaegar other than Gipsy for any significant amount of time, the acting was.. well christ, it was something else. The plot was totally predictable too.
I was SO hyped for this film, I feel so abused
Best movie of the year so far, in my opinion.
Walked in expecting a crappy movie, walked out in awe.
i get that most of you guys will love it because of the action scenes, i get it, i really do. i tried to turn my brain off but it just didn't work
there weren't enough to hold my interest - the writing and acting of the non-action scenes is just really cliche and bad (and not in a good way either). Charlie Day should stick to Always Sunny, because he was the worst thing ever in this film.

Before I went in I knew the acting was going to be terrible--though I ended up actually liking everyone's performance minus the scientists. Also Striker got a lot of on screen time too.
I thought it was a tad too cheesy at times, in a bad way, but the mechs and monsters were fucking awesome.
7.5/10
Most of the acting was pretty bad apart a few stand outs like Idris Elba, Ron Perlman and I guess Charlie Day apart from when he was really annoying.
Plot was paper thin though had set-up for a lot of world building which will hopefully be explored at some point. Some people thought there was a romance subplot but I disagree. The relationship seemed mostly platonic in a bromance kind of way.
The action stole the show. Although most fight scenes were dark there was no shaky cam, there was always a light source to help focus on the be it the neon signs of Hong Kong or the floating choppers and IMO it was easy to tell what was happening. Through out every fight scene I was giddy as a 10 year old kid and smiling like a complete idiot. Put a bit more focus on the other Jaegars and have some day time fight scenes and the action would of been perfect.
All in all
[sp]Galactic Rim[/sp] when?
I just hope the Shinkawa poster gets a mass release.
[sp]I'm so glad they didn't kiss at the end, and embraced each other instead though.[/sp]
So there's that.

Also yeah there's a romantic subplot because hollywood
Wait what? I didn't see any romance. I mean if they [sp]kissed at the end then sure[/sp] but all I saw was some full on bromance thanks to the mind melding.
Apart from some of horrible the acting I fucking loved it. I just hope the Shinkawa poster gets a mass release.

[sp]He said about never thinking about his future before meeting her, and how he had terrible timing for realizing things
implies he'd fallen in love[/sp]

[sp]Eh I still think it was because after the mind meld they were as close as family and that since his brother had died and he hadn't drifted with anyone else he didn't realize how much it brought them together. Like I said, if they kissed then sure it was romance but it felt more like family to me.[/sp]

The scientist thing wasn't really bad, just overly done. They pushed it too hard.
Also, anyone else get serious Independence Day vibes halfway through?
So yeah. Fuck 3d. I don't want to go to the movies at noon. If anyone ever mentioned 3d movies making more money then non-3d, call bullshit. This is the proof right here.

Anyone who says that the relationship was platonic: [sp] How do you explain Mako totally just eyeing the shit out of Raleigh. I mean come on.[/sp]
I was really disappointed by this movie, and I wasn't even expecting much. The action was dull and slow, and I wanted to fall asleep during the parts where people were talking about shit that doesn't matter.
[sp] Seriously what was the point of the whole thing with mako having issues. She gets fucked up by her memories once in the test run, and then it's never revisited. I guess it's used to establish the story about her being saved by stacker, but not even that is really utilized.[/sp]
The ending is exactly what you would think it was going to be. I was more entertained by the Lone Ranger than this movie.
I was even hoping that my love for things like Gundam and Big O would bring up some love, but I just could not find myself invested in this story at all.

For me I liked the relationship because it didn't get in the way at all. There was no love triangle, no "should we or shouldn't we", no sense of forbidden love, no sloppy kisses out of nowhere.
Charlie Day should stick to Always Sunny, because he was the worst thing ever in this film.
I found the other Charlie to be much worse - he didn't really bring that much emotional connection to the role, he just sounded like a documentary narrator most of the time.
I thought it was just the right amount of small romantic chemistry.
Also it sounds like there was a lot that was cut out, I definitely would like to see the "full" version:
Del Toro cut approximately an hour of material from the film. The unused footage explored the characters and their arcs in greater detail, but the director felt it was necessary to strike a balance, stating: "We cannot pretend this is Ibsen with monsters and giant robots. I cannot pretend I'm doing a profound reflection on mankind." Each character's arc was edited down to its minimal requirements. The director wanted to keep the film around two hours, particularly for younger viewers.
Then what was the point of the relationship at all? There was little to no emotion between the two. If it was supposed to be a purely family or professional relationship, [sp]then why did the film suggest she was attracted to him? The first time she sees him shes all like "whoa". Then he has his shirt off and she just stares and him and gets all embarrassed, slams her door, and continues to look at him through her doors eye piece.
It just felt like it was put into the story because they wanted to fill some sort of quota. He's an attractive man with a six pack, and shes a woman, and they do the same thing as a job. They should fall in love!
If you aren't going to make something matter in the story then why the fuck put it in?[/sp]
It's cliche and boring. The whole movie is cliche and boring. I wasn't expecting a mind blowing movie with a perfect story and moving acting, but give me a fuckin' break.

But what point did it serve? How did it enhance the story?
Honestly, I loved it through and through.
Any and all aspects of badness in acting and such I kinda took as a reminder of the movie's roots in -crappy sci-fi fighters from the last century and I know thats a cop-out but still.
I loved the whole film and I loved the world they created - I hope more comes of this universe.
Makes me miss War of the Monsters even more though.
Mako has a shy crush on him. Is it really that bad that's all there is to it in the film? It doesn't require any more romance or mushed feelings or heart-to-heart crap. It's perfectly fine as is.

They're both incredibly broken people. Raleigh lost his brother - who he was already close to - while they were mentally linked and the experience scarred him so much he quit one of the biggest and best jobs in the world to slum it as a day laborer. Mako lost her family (but not her shoe, fortunately) and saw her home nearly obliterated in front of her eyes as a small child. When rescued by a jaeger, she dedicated her entire life to vengeance through the jaeger program.
They both had big kaiju trouble in their past that messed up their family and relationship lives. That's why they were a good match despite being so flawed and different. They were able to find strength in their weakness (feel free to substitute a different cliche of your choice).
This movie has like one of the corniest concepts ever, giant robots and monsters fighting, but for me it was executed and pulled off so well. I loved it, especially the fighting scenes. One of my favorite movies ever.

Kids screw up everything these days :c
I liked the film. I wish there were more fight scenes with the other jaegers.
