Just saw it and what really bugged me was that they waited until the last possible moment to use use the Jensen-style elbow sword. Whenever they whip it out, it's clearly the greatest weapon in the Jaegar's arsenal, they kill the flying one instantly, it cuts one clean in two in the last battle. Why hold off using it?
If I recall correctly the sword was a really new development so (a) it wasn't implemented before (b) Raleigh didn't know about it. It's also probably harder to use (because Jaegers are big and slow). I think Takuat also has a point about the blood.
just got out of seeing this
holy shit
just
holy shit
i love monster movies and i loved cloverfield back when it was released, but THIS just stomped cloverfield into the goddamned dust, i hope they make a sequel or something, i would give all my money for that. that CGI was mind blowing too, i even personally believe it blew avatar out of the water
hell, watching it made me wish there were more video games out there too for such a genre, maybe even make a game for PR (although going by past experience, most movie games are pieces of shit but who knows). the only ones that come to my mind are the godzilla fighting games for xbox/PS2, but those havent seen a new addition in ages (the wii game isnt worth mentioning)
Actually, they made an Infinity Blade knock-off for ios, and they made a 3D Brawler for 360. Supposedly a PC version of that is coming to PC, too.
I bought the 360 version, and it's pretty damn fun I think. You can play as Kaiju too, and you can even more or less create your own Frankenstein of a Jaeger.
Unfortunately, the IAPs are strong here, you need to buy 3 movie Kaiju(game comes with 2), and buy the ability to custom color your Jaeger(don't worry, they cost about 2 bucks per character and 1 buck for coloring, also the coloring system is AMAZING).
It only costs 10 bucks, too, so it doesn't bother me as much.
They promised future updates and more character DLC that will add in more movie Kaiju and Jaegers, and even some ones not in the movies(director's words).
I main Knifehead myself, probably Otachi once he's available to purchase.
I drew some Perlmans (Perlmen?)

That was one of the greatest movies I have ever seen and also the loudest movie I have ever seen.
I actually screamed really loud during the loud parts and nobody could hear me, the fucking robot fighting was THAT LOUD.
Wait the main characters name is actually Raleigh? I just thought no one could pronounce Riley correctly.
I loved this movie, the CGI was phenomenal, the acting, story, and general quality of the movie was very admirable. I hope Pacific Rim makes enough money for a sequel.
[sp]He said about never thinking about his future before meeting her, and how he had terrible timing for realizing things
implies he'd fallen in love[/sp]
So? That was at the very end and the romancing was through clear cut socialization rather than forceful romantic set pieces.
Sure there are some things about the movie that needs to be critically addressed, just like all other movies, sure. But if the corny acting, absolutely no care put into the drama and plot hold you back from loving the FUCK out of this fucking masterpiece of spectacle, you are just a big wet fucking blanket. You are a category 5 boring asshole.
The only real gripe I have about this movie is that [sp]I wished the other Jaegers didn't get torn up so easily. I expected somewhat of a team fight with the four Jaeger's against the Kaijus instead of HERE COMES GIPSY DANGER TO SAVE THE DAAAAAY.[/sp]
Blood's acidic remember. It would turn the cities into wastelands which why Strike Eurekas were heated so that they cauterized the wounds before any major damage is done.
The blood isn't acidic, else the scavenger people who take the body parts of it would never existed. The only part that was acidic was [sp]the saliva of that one creature that was teamed up with the flying one[/sp]
It's not acidic, it's toxic.
COYOTE TANGO
Okay so [sp]is Tango the Jaeger that Idris Elba was piloting? I mean in the schematics it's built for 1 man to control, and he saves Mako in Japan. I'm pretty sure that's it, I just didn't think about it while watching[/sp]
Everyone complaining about [sp] Mako looking at Raleigh with his shirt off[/sp], was I the onyl one who felt that [sp]she was looking at his scars and wondering about where he got them? I mean, most of the character arcs are about loss of some kind, so I figured they were just trying to tie it in early on[/sp]
Other than that, loved it. The fight scenes did get a little hard to follow sometimes, but most of the time they were easy to see. I felt like Charlie Day's character was annoying at first, but he got better as he got more stake in the story. He became less of an annoying prick and more of an eccentric nerd. Some of the acting could have been better, especially Charlie Hunnam (Raleigh). He tried to hard to speak in some kind of grim, serious tone that didn't match his character at all.
Just came back from it and it was great
The dialog is pretty silly in some scenes but the action was amazing. When [sp]Gypsy took down the flying Kaiju[/sp] people in the theatre started clapping
The only things that bother me are how [sp]Crimson Typhoon and Cherno Alpha got taken down instantly (I've been really looking forward to seeing them fight alongside gypsy) and how it is never acknowledged that Kaiju blood is toxic. They had the comic and some ad campaigns telling how it kills you instantly but then Ron Perlman and other scavengers just dip their hands into it (Forgiving the post credits scene for that because it was amazing[/sp]

[sp]That's what I thought at first but then she just kept staring at him through the door eyehole [/sp]
[sp] I was really just pissed off that Cherno Alpha went down so quick. It was my favorite Jaeger by far, and it looked so awesome fighting and punching things. And the soviet style music they played in its fight scenes were kickass. [/sp]
Great movie overall though.
Ugh I feel like I missed out on like half the film by not seeing it in 3D from what I'm hearing. I usually would only go to see something in 3D at Imax but the Imax near me wasn't showing it for some reason.
Edit:
No wait they do. God damn I want to go again now.
Walking out of it, literally the only thing I could think was "I WANT TO WATCH THIS AGAIN RIGHT NOW."
[editline]13th July 2013[/editline]
And yes it was cheesy at times [sp]("For my family!")[/sp] but it was cheesy in the perfect capacity. Ohmygod so good. I just... I just fucking loved this movie. I want to watch againnnnnnnn.
Guys, stop being silly. Crimson Typhoon is clearly the best Jaeger. For Christ's sake, it has FOUR arms each with sawblades. You can't beat that, not even the gigantic Russian one. Did they say if the Russian Jaeger was the biggest?
Reaaaaally reminded me of the later Mechagodzilla movies with all that cheese in the pilots.
[sp]
>dat nuke tho
>dat boat bat tho
>dat actually sorta good plotline and use of flashbacks
[/sp]
fuckin loved it
although one thing bugged me
why didn't they get hundreds of A-10s and just zergrush the kaiju with GAU-8s? Why didn't they make a mech with GAU-8s for arms? GAU-8s solve everything.
Guys, stop being silly. Crimson Typhoon is clearly the best Jaeger. For Christ's sake, it has FOUR arms each with sawblades. You can't beat that, not even the gigantic Russian one. Did they say if the Russian Jaeger was the biggest?
Striker Eureka would like to have a word with you
[editline]13th July 2013[/editline]
[sp]Is it just me or was one of the scavengers eaten by the baby kaiju Del Toro himself? I could have sworn it was him but I havent seen anyone else mention that as a cameo[/sp]

3 arms
I felt this film was missing the classic scene in all these kinds of movies where the soldiers try to shoot to shoot the kaijus with their machine guns to no avail and the tanks fire their rounds at the kaiju for it only to do no damage and then be crushed.
I felt this film was missing the classic scene in all these kinds of movies where the soldiers try to shoot to shoot the kaijus with their machine guns to no avail and the tanks fire their rounds at the kaiju for it only to do no damage and then be crushed.
You get that in the prequel comic, where there's a scene that's literally that only with fighter jets.
Also JET PILOTS YOU ARE DELIBERATELY CRASHING YOURSELF INTO THE KAIJU SERIOUSLY GUYS IT'S NOT THAT HARD TO DODGE
I was so hyped for the [sp]Typhoon one I was like FUCK YEAH ASIANS TEARING SHIT UP WITH 3 SAWBLADES and then they just died.[/sp]
Otherwise I loved this
[editline]13th July 2013[/editline]
also did anyone mention that they translated the Russians saying bitch (сука) into bastard, because I randomly noticed that

You get a bit of that with Knifehead in the beginning
Yo this movie was tight. I just wish we got to see more of the other jaegers
It'd be cool if they made a prequel for during the war and show a bunch of other Jaegers.
When they said that the Gypsy Danger was [sp]nuclear and they have some plan to close the portal, I knew they were going to have to go through some kind of sacrifice in order to close it like someone having to blow themselves up or getting close[/sp]
I still think that [sp]Marshall and the cocky son could have somehow fought their way against those 2 kaiju and won[/sp]
Guys, stop being silly. Crimson Typhoon is clearly the best Jaeger. For Christ's sake, it has FOUR arms each with sawblades. You can't beat that, not even the gigantic Russian one. Did they say if the Russian Jaeger was the biggest?
Doesn't he have 3...
One of my favorite parts was [sp]when the Australians were KO'd by an EMP. What do you do then? Go outside and shoot it with flares. I was laughing my ass off because if you're gonna go down, may as well try pissing it off just a tad more[/sp]
I'm going to go see it again this week.
This movie made me switch my avatar for the first time in years
That scene is probably my favorite in the movie. The music playing during it was amazing
Switched back because I realized how bad it looks in 80x80
