It's not like they all died from the gypsy explosion[/sp]
There's a prequel comic about a reporter getting stories about "why we fight" a few months before the movie takes place. She talks to Choi (who was in San Francisco during the first attack), one of the Jaeger designers (who talks about the development of the mechs and the drift, as well as the Becket brothers), and Stacker (who talks about his experience as an early Jaeger pilot). Cool stuff.
It'd be cool if they made a prequel for during the war and show a bunch of other Jaegers.
Yeah the start of the war could easily be a very good film by itself. Would the nuke kill EVERYTHING on the other side? From what I can tell unless the aliens devoted the entire war effort to that one factory people are kinda fucked[/sp] :v: [editline]14th July 2013[/editline]
One of my favorite parts was [sp]when the Australians were KO'd by an EMP. What do you do then? Go outside and shoot it with flares. I was laughing my ass off because if you're gonna go down, may as well try pissing it off just a tad more[/sp] I'm going to go see it again this week.
[sp]That's Australians for you, if a skyscraper tall machine can't stop something, shoot flares at it.[/sp]
A few problems I have with this movie: [sp]Alien portal at bottom of ocean, spilling out inter-dimensional monsters to destroy the world - Only 2 scientists doing any continual research on it - what. Emp goes off and shorts out all electronics in the city and the jaegers - gypsy danger is powered by nuclear reactor but that don't mean all your circuits and shit are safe from emp blasts - what. Kaiju is killed and body is completely disassembled and cut up by army of black-market people - no government or secret agencies come to quarantine area for alien contamination / make intellectual or strategic use of the possible finds - what. Every time a kaiju comes out of the portal they know exactly when it happens and they know exactly where the portal is - never think to just make a base close enough to the portal to deploy a jaeger right on top of where the kaijus come out. Half the time wait until they're actually causing havoc in a city before getting to stop them. - what.[/sp] Overall I freaking loved this movie though.

Humanity has moved on to "knock them down when they pop up" mode, but then they start coming harder and faster (which is where the movie starts). We only see the scientists hired on as a part of the Jaeger project.[/sp]
[sp]Kaiju is killed and body is completely disassembled and cut up by army of black-market people - no government or secret agencies come to quarantine area for alien contamination / make intellectual or strategic use of the possible finds - what.[/sp]
[sp]Newt and Gottlieb clearly have access to some remains. The government has made a side deal with Chau and his lot to get the mess out of the way.[/sp]
[sp]Every time a kaiju comes out of the portal they know exactly when it happens and they know exactly where the portal is - never think to just make a base close enough to the portal to deploy a jaeger right on top of where the kaijus come out. I don't understand why people bother trying to critique the plot for this movie. Kaiju vrs mecha films have never been known for their great depth in story. The acting was sufficient for this kind of film. Not sure why people are expecting great performances from the sterotypical characters that are there for that exact reason. I really did wish they didn't give gipsy as much spot light as she got. [sp]Did anyone els get a jurrassic park vibe when Dr. Newton was in that shelter and his glasses fell down.[/sp]
[sp]Did anyone els get a jurrassic park vibe when Dr. Newton was in that shelter and his glasses fell down.[/sp]
It's funny that you should say that, because I thought the exact same thing.
This movie made me switch my avatar for the first time in years That scene is probably my favorite in the movie. The music playing during it was amazing
I was grinning and shaking like a madman at that point, even though I'd seen it before in the trailers, it was just so perfectly done
[sp]A hole at the bottom and the center of the Pacific isn't the best place to set up a base of operations for deploying massive machines.[/sp]
[sp]If they have the ability to build things as advanced as Jaegers, and things as big as the coastal wall and the shatterdome, i'd think they could make a base in the ocean if they really wanted to. And it bugged me how the ocean seemed to be really shallow most of the film. Even the place with the rift didn't seem to be all that much further down.[/sp]

On paper, it was probably like a government contract for disposal or something.[/sp] [sp] Building a giant base for housing giant robots at the bottom of the ocean? Oh yeah, and build it there while giant monsters could come out at any minute? That's a plan. [/sp] The EMP point is probably legit, I don't understand how EMP works anyway.
[sp]Gypsy Danger was probably turned off, EMP only affects electronics that are turned on iirc[/sp]
[sp]"Just think about it for a second," del Toro explained. "We sent Gipsy to the other side, right? It exploded, but whatever remains stays there." [/sp]
[sp]It got vaporized???[/sp]
I wonder how Australia made the best Jaeger considering the state of their manufacturing industry. Can someone vouch for how good the Australian accents were because it seemed not Australian to me. Also, for a sequel do you think it should stay in the Pacific or should a second rift come from the Atlantic Ocean.

In all seriousness I expect Galactic Rim. [editline]14th July 2013[/editline] Also good news, Pac Rim should actually break the $38 million domestic that was expected. The rest of the world is picking up the slack. http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=pacificrim.htm
God, the theme music is awesome.
Watching it again today :D
I was just about to post the theme song myself. I didn't notice the music too much while actually watching the movie but for some reason I had it stuck in my head later and had to download the soundtrack. That theme song is fantastic.
I loved this movie. It was exactly the kind of ridiculous, cheesey, over-the-top giant monster vs robot action movie I wanted it to be. Sucks [sp]Cherno got taken down so quickly, that was one badass Jaeger. And the pilots reminded of The Fifth Element characters or some shit. At least it got to kick some ass before it melted.[/sp]
I want Hannibal's gold plated shoes.
Was it just me or did [sp]Slattern[/sp] not even feel like he was a huge threat?
Was it just me or did [sp]Slattern[/sp] not even feel like he was a huge threat?
[sp]When they showed him climb out of the rift I imagined that there'd be this huge battle with jaegars literally having to climb him. Instead he was a simple class 4 kaiju with tentacles[/sp]
My nearest cinema only showed in 2D but I still loved every minute, just think it would look great in 3D though
So if we get a sequel which sticks to the whole Jagear for each nation what do you think we'd get? I'd want 3 smaller, single manned mechs, one for England, Scotland and Wales which form together to form Brit mech with a 3-way drift.
I wish Cherno Alpha's theme was Song of the Volga Boatmen.
