I can't see this movie until next month due to our unique cinema. Is it worth the wait?

Yes.
I think I figured out why the Aussie kid was such a jackass. Since he saw all of his dads memories he probably to trawl trough memories of his dad banging his mom and his own conception. That probably messes a kid up.
I wonder how Australia made the best Jaeger considering the state of their manufacturing industry. Can someone vouch for how good the Australian accents were because it seemed not Australian to me. Also, for a sequel do you think it should stay in the Pacific or should a second rift come from the Atlantic Ocean.
I was just thinking the other day that now that worldwide box office is so important to a movie's success, I think actors from around the world should be hired to play characters from that area.
For a second rift, what about the exact opposite of an ocean? What if they came from a volcano and were some kind of fire creatures?
I haven't seen the movie yet so I don't know if this is against the mythos.
So... anyone know of any good kaiju media to assuage me after this movie woke up the giant desire to smash things in me?
I think a sequel is easy enough to justify. [sp]The movie ended with closing the rift. That's it. They didn't prevent it from ever happening again.[/sp]
I saw it today, I'm happy I did and got so gitty when I saw the russians.
I'm going to see it next week in 2d, I'm curious if I can get wireless headphones like the hearing impaired without any card showing I need it.
IMO this movie is best seen with a big group of people and a large audience that are really into this, it's amazing hearing the audience get into and start clapping and cheering and going HOLY FUCK NO GOD DAMN WAY
I'm excited to see this for a second time.
When the theme song kicks in during the fight scenes, I just get really happy.
I think a prequel would work great for this movie.
>Starts with first appearance of Kaiju
>Military has a hard time taking it down, everyone rejoices when it dies thinking it's over
>Suddenly, more Kaiju's,
>Military ain't enough to keep stopping them, using too many resources
>Main character inducted into newly established Jaeger program
>Everyone thinks first Jaeger is amazing
>Kills a few Kaiju over the years
>Gets owned by a new Category 4 Kaiju
>Find out an experimental nuclear Jaeger is in the works
>New Jaeger owns Kaiju in an epic battle
>Nations all over the world begin to build Jaegers to battle the Kaiju and protect the world.
I hate how people are giving this movie shit for being too cheesy.
I've never seen a bigger example of missing the point or stick-up-ass-syndrome.

My biggest complaint is that it wasn't cheesy ENOUGH.
It could have easily gone WAY bigger and been better off for it.
Hell, IMO, the best scene in the movie is [sp]the fight against Leatherback and that other Kaiju, the one with "SWORD-MODE, ACTIVATE!" and them yelling the names of their weapons before activating them. The fight that nearly goes to space.[/sp]
I had a huge smile on my face for that entire scene, but I felt like the rest of the movie was worried it would be considered too goofy. Like it WANTED to be really over-the-top, but it was unsure if people would go for it or not, so it restrained itself except for that one scene.

What about the Newton's Cradle, the ship bat, the rocket fist, Hannibal Chau, the conveniently placed toilet, the bellows on Newt's machine...
I'm so gonna buy a Cherno Alpha figure if they make it.

I'm not saying that the entire movie was completely serious except for that one scene, I'm just saying that that one scene was exactly what I wanted the movie to be.
It was good, but it could have been better. I'm happy I saw it in theaters and look forward to the sequel.
Really, the only things I would have changed are:
[sp]-Make the first kaiju attack on San Fran into a full scene, so we can get a sense of the destruction these things cause when there're no Jaegers to fight them.
-Add a kaiju battle in the middle of the movie, have this be where Mako gets lost in the memory rather than when they're just standing in the hangar.
-Let Crimson Typhoon and Cherno Alpha survive a bit longer, give their pilots more characterization. They were two of the coolest looking robots, they were built up by Marshall as being elite fighting machines, and they both get completely destroyed 60 seconds into their first fight. Give me a reason to be impressed when the kaiju take them down and give me a reason to be sad when the pilots die.
-As I said, let things get a bit more ridiculous. It's a movie about giant robots fighting giant monsters from another dimension; anyone who calls something out for being far-fetched is watching the wrong movie.[/sp]
This stuff is just me, though.
There were just 3 things I disliked about this movie:
1) Typhoon and Cherno didn't get enough screentime
2) No chainswords
3) they didn't check the kaiju's pulse by stomping on its head
Also, what could have been cool (if done right), is if [sp]at the end, when they're at the pit, there's a "WE'RE OUTNUMBERED!" moment, followed by the remaining Jaegers of the rest of the nations of the world that we haven't seen yet (Japan... I'm sure others... there's probably a UK-bot, right? ... whatever, like a decent-sized squad of multi-national Jaegers) showing up to help them fight the Category 5 (who I was really hoping would be some GIGANTIC LOVECRAFTIAN HORROR. Like, a giant dragon with barb tongues and tentacles for legs, but every tentacle ends in another little mouth. Like an amalgamation of every Godzilla villain). Have someone explain that, after the failure of the wall, every nation decided to reactivate whatever Jaegers they had to assist in Marshall's final assault. Just end it on a real "HUMANITY, FUCK YEAH!" note before Gypsy rides the kaiju into the hole.[/sp]
I did feel the part when they are just training and hanging out in the Shatterdome was a little too long for my taste. Also, the characters failed to make me care about them but maybe I'm just heartless.
2) No chainswords
a chain weapon should be standard issue in giant robots built for melee
Ehh [sp]the Cat 5 monster felt too small. I thought it was going to tower over it like a couple of times but there isn't much difference. And when Newton said the destroyers were coming, I was expecting some huge ass beast, not the cat 5.[/sp]
[sp] The scene where Striker Eureka fucks up that Kaiju that breaks the wall is badass. 2 punches and then a bunch of rockets kills it instantly. [/sp]

[sp]Remember that the Jaegers will only come from, you know, pacific countries. That's why there's an aus-bot and not a uk-bot. The other nations probably just lend resources and stuff.[/sp]
Also I spent the entirety of this movie going "So that's what sean did after he left eastenders"
The only complaint I really had about the movie was being disappointed by what the scientist discovers. [sp]When they finally revealed that you need their DNA to go through the portal, I felt it was anticlimactic. All I thought was, "Oh, that's it...?"[/sp]

they pretty much did though, [sp]they blew up the rift along with the alien commanders on the other side, so who is there now to make another rift?
of course they could just pull "there were more planets with these aliens" or something like that, but a prequel would be waaay more interesting[/sp]

[sp]There was a whole world on the other side. There's no way a nuke destroyed it all.[/sp]

[sp]Could have been like how Battlefield Earth ended.[/sp]
My only problem with this movie was that I felt that the fight scene in the middle was cooler than the fight scene at the end.
Other than that, it was fucking awesome. It took quite a while to finally get to the big Jaeger vs. Kaiju battle, but when it did, it was everything I wanted. Everything.
I wish this movie was doing better. I want more monster movies damnit!
God, the theme music is awesome.

Ramin's pretty good at making identifiable scores, Game of Thrones being a good example.
That being said, the only OST's that really stood out to me were the main theme, Mako's theme and Double Event.
