they pretty much did though, [sp]they blew up the rift along with the alien commanders on the other side, so who is there now to make another rift? of course they could just pull "there were more planets with these aliens" or something like that, but a prequel would be waaay more interesting[/sp]
I think it'd be neat if, for the sequel, [sp]the aliens open up another rift, but send kaiju AND ships through. So now you've got giant robots fighting giant monsters fighting military vehicles fighting alien spaceships. Just go full Godzilla Final Wars with everyone fighting everything. Make it into a WORLD war.[/sp] Although Del Toro hinted that [sp]the fact that Gypsy's parts were left in the alien dimension would factor into a sequel somehow. We'll probably get a Mecha-Kaiju or Alien Jaegers, which is also a cool idea.[/sp]
[sp] The scene where Striker Eureka fucks up that Kaiju that breaks the wall is badass. 2 punches and then a bunch of rockets kills it instantly. [/sp]
That part was awesome because of how fast and brutal it was and it took place in a relatively enclosed space
Watched this movie earlier, fucking loved it.
I like the Russian Pilot's costume. And I also like how Cherno Alpha punch some Kaijus [sp]like some sort of air blast[/sp]. The only thing I want to know is [sp]How come Gipsy Danger didn't use his swords in the first place ever since that asian girl became a co-pilot?[/sp]
I'm in the theatre with my dad right now, movie hasn't started yet. oh, also THE THEATER IS EMPTY. WE'RE THE ONLY TWO PEOPLE HERE.
bad manners omg

Remember Raleigh was retired for 5 years before coming back to a repaired Gipsy.

But if they did, that would just ruined all the fun.[/sp] [editline]15th July 2013[/editline] That song really remind me of Godzilla theme.
That song really remind me of Godzilla theme.
Anyone else get good ol' Godzilla vibes when the captain of the ship says "Kaiju"?
How would that be possible, I figured [sp]Gypsy was completely disintegrated given that it was ground zero for a --nuclear blast---[/sp]
To be fair, this movie's not exactly realistic.
To be fair, this movie's not exactly realistic.
You don't say?
You don't say?
I know, I was expecting it to be a serious movie for serious people. Instead I got cheesy giant robots beating up cheesy giant monsters in cheesy action sequences. Super unrealistic 0/10 corny worst movie ever [editline]15th July 2013[/editline] Also, is it bad that I don't even collect action figures and I STILL want to get a set of Jaegers for my desk? [editline]15th July 2013[/editline]
I think a prequel would work great for this movie. >Starts with first appearance of Kaiju >Military has a hard time taking it down, everyone rejoices when it dies thinking it's over >Suddenly, more Kaiju's, >Military ain't enough to keep stopping them, using too many resources >Main character inducted into newly established Jaeger program >Everyone thinks first Jaeger is amazing >Kills a few Kaiju over the years >Gets owned by a new Category 4 Kaiju >Find out an experimental nuclear Jaeger is in the works >New Jaeger owns Kaiju in an epic battle >Nations all over the world begin to build Jaegers to battle the Kaiju and protect the world.
I dunno, part of me feels like if they make another movie it needs to go even bigger. Its just the kind of movie this is. Going back to fighting lower-category Kaiju would seem like too much of a step back. Also at the start of the movie Knifehead was the highest category kaiju on record at the time, and he was only a Cat-III. It wouldn't make sense to have a Cat-IV in the prequel. Also there's the problem of finding a good place for it to end off that would feel sufficiently satisfying as an ending. The movie starts off in the middle of the war so having the prequel end before it would feel underwhelming.
fuck damn that movie was badass
A sequel definitely requires a Kaiju at least 3 times as tall as a Jaeger.

Hmm, didn't think about that. That would make sense too. But the only kaiju we saw that were confirmed as Cat IV or V were after Knifehead. So it could go either way. There were a number of Kaiju in the prequel comics and such but we don't know their category.
Just saw it on Sunday, the movie was amazing and I was giddy with excitement in every fight scene.

As like 90% of this movie took place in the water. I Would like to see some daytime battles in other cities. You could also add more citizen perspective like in Cloverfield (not like hand-held but just views from street-level). Imagine a scene in Cloverfield where the monster is rampaging around and then suddenly a giant fucking robot airdrops in and beats the shit out of it.
I saw it today. This movie really requires a practiced suspension of disbelief to not check out at the first scene, when they explain a freakin time portal at the bottom of the ocean is spawning monsters. I loved that the Jaegers really felt massive, and moved like they weighed as much as an aircraft carrier. The movie is blatantly Independence Day cheesy, but its not sooo bad that the movie feels stupid. There are a lot of Top Gun fighter jock cliches that get a little annoying, and ALL of Elba's lines are ridiculous. That said, I didn't really think CGI had improved much in the last few years, but this movie changed my mind. I love that having every fight at night is a stylistic choice, not an excuse to make things blurry and save on effects. This makes Transformers look like blurry, unclear can't-see-anything garbage.

But before the events in the movie there never were multiple kaijus in one battle [editline]15th July 2013[/editline]
You have a good point about going bigger, but I could see Jaegers in a prequel fighting maybe like 2 or 3 smaller Kaiju at once plus you could always branch into some new locations. I must say, this was one hell of a great movie, it's a shame that it's failing in the box office. I didn't mind the cheesy characters or dialogue, I thought that it worked well with the monster movie premise. Also, the main theme for this movie was fantastic.
Anybody else favorite part was [sp]ELBOW ROCKET!!!![/sp] Yeah that was fucking awesome
I read a fan theory that [sp]Chau had also drifted with a kaiju brain[/sp]. It's never outright stated, but there are quite a few hints - [sp]he immediately checks Newt's eye, his eye is injured as well, he knows the repercussions of drifting...[/sp] Or did everyone else figure this out and I'm just slow?
Anybody else favorite part was [sp]ELBOW ROCKET!!!![/sp] Yeah that was fucking awesome
I'm torn between the part when Striker Eureka kicks the fuck out of that kaiju and the [sp]SWORD OUT OF FUCKING NOWHERE GOD DAMN[/sp]
I'm torn between the part when Striker Eureka kicks the fuck out of that kaiju and the [sp]SWORD OUT OF FUCKING NOWHERE GOD DAMN[/sp]
I'm pretty sure I'd go with the latter. That was my favorite part of the whole damn thing because was a big "OH GOD ARE YOU FUCKING SERIOUS HOLY SHIT" moment.

Chau feared that Newton would attract the next Kaiju because it's a "two way street", and so sent him on his way. (And that's exactly what happened).[/sp]
