The most unrealistic thing in this movie is the nations of the world working together, pooling their resources.
In the face of extinction I'm pretty sure they would.

i might be a cynical bastard here but we aren't really all that good at collaborating with eachother
I don't know, humanity can be pretty stupid.
In the event of Kaiju, I think we'd either all immediately declare war on each other or take several years to form a committee to come up with something and then have that amount to nothing for a good while longer.
Just watched it. Really fun movie. I loved the chemistry between Charlie Day and Burn Gorman (he is a great actor and deserves some recognizability). Possible the best blockbuster this summer.
They completely brushed over the revelation that Dinosaurs were the first Kaiju, there wasn't even a double-take, it was just accepted and then they moved on.
Didn't they also say that dinosaurs had two brains or did I mishear that
I was like "That doesn't sound right, but I don't know enough about dinosaurs to dispute it."

I understood that as [sp]not the dinosaurs were the kaiju, but it was kaiju that killed the dinosaurs, not some fancy asteroid. [/sp]

I thought that was an old theory that was proven wrong a long time ago?

Yup

Going to see this on thursday. Really looking forward to it.

[sp]It's pretty pathetic if you have to build genetically engineered monsters to kill some dumb reptiles[/sp]

I'd still watch that as a movie.

I think it's more [sp]they just went standard procedure, wrecked everything, and then went "oh guess we didn't really need them after all". If they're galactic conquerors, then we can assume that Kaiju are their usual tool.[/sp]

I want to see a prequel like that.
Everyone at war with the Kaiju showing up to mess EVERYTHING up. Followed by truce and than Jaegers.
I'm afraid we won't see any kind of sequel or prequel at all. Not because it was written as single film and works best as it is, but mainly because it's not doing too well in box office.
[sp]The Category 5 at the end was kind of a let down. Like the design was very simple and boring, and it didn't do much besides survive the nuke. Meanwhile Otachi was a fucking swiss army knife of destruction. It was like the lovechild of the Cloverfield monster and Destroyah.[/sp]
The film reached the #3 spot during the opening weekend with $37.2 million, behind Despicable Me 2 and Grown Ups 2. This is the highest ever opening for a film by del Toro, surpassing Hellboy II: The Golden Army. Around 50 percent of tickets were in 3D, which makes it the highest 3D share of 2013.
I'm sure a sequel is very possible.

[sp]Slattern in the game is 1:1 scale to the other playable Jaegers and Kaiju, and still towers over them. Slattern can generate electricity all over its body, use its tail to shock, and can body slam itself and fire a railgun from its mouth. I think, just like the game, Slattern should have been fought on land to really give it scale, particularly in a major city or something to show that it is and was capable of kicking Gypsy's ass. The movie just doesn't do it justice. However, if a Cat 6 suddenly showed up from the rift and absolutely dwarfed Slattern, and forces Gypsy on the defensive and evading, that would have been loads cooler.[/sp]

Just saw this movie, 8/10 overall, the fight scenes and cgi really made this movie.
They should make a prequel with [sp]smaller Kaiju vs dinosaurs[/sp]
Going to see it again tomorrow in 3D, can't wait.
There was a Canadian Jaeger, Chrome Brutus.
It uses a gigantic Titanium lumber axe.

God, how can an exclamation mark completely change the mood of that tagline?
That is one sexy action movie poster.
Just saw pacific rim last night with modest expectations
Pleasantly surprised, what a fucking awesome movie. It reminds me of classic 90's scifi/action movies in that the writing is cheesy but not way over the top and over-focused which makes it fun, but at the same time its clever enough to make the story (and things happening on screen) actually matter. And the action scenes were actually fucking awesome and I'm not a huge power rangers or godzilla fan so thats saying something.
It's littlerally a perfect summer action movie blockbuster type movie. If you have any capability to like fun action movies then its pretty much perfect for that

My friends don't have that unfortunately.
After the movie ended I said "Wow that movie was actually really awesome!"
They started sarcastically saying that it was a good movie and bitched about things that didn't matter for a movie like this, things that didn't even make sense like:
"the love story in this was so bad" (what)
"that movie was so stereotypical and cheesy"
"is Guillermo Del Toro Michael Bay's brother?"
Also I secretly hope this becomes a cult classic movie despite the poor theater performance
