Also this movie doesn't seem to be doing as bad as people are saying

Sure it's worse than despicible me 2, but that can be expected when you release a new IP against two sequels, no matter how shitty those sequels are.
Worldwide money made for the first 3 days was about $100m for DM2 at the #1 spot and $91mil at the #2 spot for Pacific Rim. Considering its a movie that I feel has a lot more long term appeal in DVD/BluRay/merchandising/etc than DM2 there's a real potential for a "new IP" movie like Pacific Rim to still make a decent amount
If I ever get rich, like billionaire rich, I want to make smaller versions of the Jaegers, and by small I mean like 2 or 3 times the size of a human.
They really dropped the ball on merchandising. I can't really picture a child enjoying The Dark Knight Rises that much yet Batmen and Banes flooded the toy aisles. And yet an incredibly toyetic movie like Pacific Rim comes out and there are a grand total of three toys, designed for "adult collectors".
He said he did it once I'm pretty sure.
that the public shelter thing though

what about a prequel where its from the kaijus points of view, like it turns out those commanders were mind controlling them or that one scientist dude fucked up and got it wrong (that they consume planets, why would a clone grunt solider know that)
Got back from watching this in imax 3d. The 3D wasn't terrible and the movie was great. Anyone who hates it for the characters really has a stick up their bum. Sure the characters and dialog wasn't great but it wasn't terrible either
What disappointed me most was that there were barely any scenes of the Jaegers kicking ass. Most of the time they sucked.
The only two really awesome fights were Striker Eureka vs. Bladehead and Gipsy Danger vs Leatherback and especially Otachi.
Otachi was easily the best part of the movie.

Everytime I hear this I just picture [sp]Slattern[/sp] coming through the Rift.
Gipsy Danger = "Looking for Danger"
hehe

Plus an 18 inch light up Gypsy Danger and a line of Heroclix miniatures.
I bought 5 of the Heroclix for the movie, got;
Skunner
Crimson Typhoon x2(my favorite Jaeger, too)
Cherno Alpha
Coyote Tango
I was hoping for Knifehead and Slattern, Raiju also, but whatevs. They're pretty well made, too. Love the detail on Skunner and Crimson.

This is so godzilla inspired and its fucking amazing. Was this the track that played when otachi revealed its wings? cause that was just every monster movie soundtrack culminating into one.
Yeah I think it was, Otachi was probably the best Category IV Kaiju, I wish there was another Category V.
Also, I don't think people are properly understand how strong Slattern is/[sp]was, he survived a Nuke, a fucking massive one too.[/sp]

According to the wiki Slattern is literally the strongest and biggest of all the kaiju.
[editline]19th July 2013[/editline]
Gipsy is 260 feet tall, 1,980 tons, Eureka is even smaller
Slattern is 596 feet tall, 6,750 tons

If that wasn't enough, [sp]It still took a massive amount of stabbings, a fucking nuclear turbine go through his back to finally kill the bastard.[/sp]

To be fair Striker would had won if Slattern didn't call for backup, he literally cut off his arms and slit his throat. Honestly it makes no sense how it so easily lost its limbs, but could survive a 1.2 megaton explosion, or for that matter, how Gipsy survived, it was cool though so that's all that matters.
I feel like watching this movie again.

[sp]Survives a point blank nuke, dies to a turbine.[/sp]
In the sequel, Mecha's will use Giant Monsters as horses and fight Zeus
Spoiler.
You might want to put that into Spoiler Tags.
Close enough.

If North Korea made their own Jaeger, what would they name it?

GLORIOUS LEADER'S PEOPLE'S MECHA
It'd be made out of wood and the thousand tears of inmates.

[sp] She was pregnant the whole time, she was such a badass, also according to the book the kaiju fear their masters and like to have sexy time with each other but who knows if it ends up being canon or not [/sp]
I'm gonna see this again today!

The first part there was one of my favorite scenes with that guy in the movie :v:
I love writing like this in action films, makes it more fun
Ron Perlman is awesome.
Just saw the movie. Finally a movie after a long time with big things fighting each other that is actually great fun. The plot had very basic depth with some cliches, but the action made up for it big time. Plus it had some nice and funny non-combat moments, too. I mostly had issues with [sp]the egoistical son suddenly becoming pretty humble without much explanation, the category 5 kaiju looking a bit boring and finally the end being similar to Independence Day. But hey, it looked cooler at least. Well, Cat5 surviving the blast was a bit unnecessary, too.[/sp] None of these ruined the movie for me at all though.
I realized I really love del Toro's visual style. Nothing super gritty, always full of colors and clear. That's true to all the other movies I saw from him. Hellboys and Pan's Labyrinth.
Ron Perlman should have had more screen time, love the guy.
One last thing. [sp]Okay, Russian robot got attacked by 2 monsters but Chinese robot died too easily in my opinion.[/sp]
