Just quoting this from /m/, about the original script for Pacific Rim. "In the original script Tacit Ronin was basically Striker Eureka: The sleek, fancy, newly minted Mark V Jaeger that made Gipsy Danger look like a beat up old piece of crap. It was faster, stronger, and had a much more impressive armament, including a laser that could cut Kaiju in half. As for Coyote Tango, in the old script it was an American Jaeger, the Anchorage one piloted by Yancy and Raleigh. It only appeared in flashback to the battle where the Kaiju Tortuga killed Yancy. Tortuga was a big turtle-like Kaiju with an armor-piercing tongue that could shoot out like a bunker buster. It smashed into the Conn Pod, impaling Coyote Tango, and crushing Yancy. Gipsy Danger originally was a legendary Jaeger of LA, one of the Mk Is, who had fought in dozens of battles and saved the city every time, before finally being retired as obsolete." Also, Tacit Ronin ended the film by fighting three Category Fives and winning, only losing an arm in the process. The original script sounds way more awesome
Fuark, Tacit Ronin sounded godly awesome.
The original script sounds way more awesome
on a story writing level though, Tacit's crazy awesome capabilities sounds like a case of mary sue, overpowered tech that doesn't find anything to be a challenge
on a story writing level though, Tacit's crazy awesome capabilities sounds like a case of mary sue, overpowered tech that doesn't find anything to be a challenge
Well, things that don't have much of a physical challenge can still work excellently within a story that is shaped to fit them like Superman or The Iron Giant. All we know of Tacit in that post was that it can fuck up Kaijus real good but maybe there was something about it that didnt allow it to save the day. Or maybe it was removed because the story could not be formed/warped to fit such a machine since it goes against the desperate theme and need for heroic sacrifice in a kaiju apocalypse. [editline]31st July 2013[/editline] Actually I read some of the ending. Tacit gets banged up quite a bit so it's not too terribly OP. Heh, Mako and Raleigh kiss in the original script.
Still, if original Tacit Ronin was that powerful and the only Mark 5, mankind would have a hell of a lot more time to cancel the apocalypse if they invested some money into making a few more.
True that but perhaps you could have a Robocop inspired world where corporate politics made them invest in stupid cheap shit (I.E the anti-kaiju wall) instead of solely dedicating themselves into actual effective but still expensive products. But maybe that could have been too much for one film.
Also, Tacit Ronin ended the film by fighting three Category Fives and winning, only losing an arm in the process.
Now that's just silly.

just saw this movie for a second time today and i'm ready for a third :D
If we had audio from inside Striker Eureka during the Sydney attack, there's a 98% chance that it was probably this.
That "fuck off we're full" just completes it.

Jumping in kind of late, but I absolutely loved this movie. Sad to see that it isn't getting as much praise in NA as it should.
Well its safe to say that it was a huge success overseas. So a sequel could happen. I mean for fuck sake if GI Joe can get a sequel than this can.
I'm heading out to see this tonight with my dad. Watched the original Gojira/Godzilla a few days ago in preparation :v:
fuck i wish there was a British Jaegar it could be Crumpet Eclipse, Big Ben's tower with arms and legs attached to it piloting it would be the Queen of England and Gordon Ramsey, their contrasting natures synergising perfectly in the drift to form the ultimate team. fifty corgis would be linked together in the cockpit as well, operating various gun turrets. when outnumbered, Crumpet Eclipse would raise its arms and engage its reactors. "ALL THOSE IN THE STREETS, IT'S TWELVE BONG" booms a mighty voice from the clock tower, then boiling hot tea superheated in its core sprays out from vents in the jaegar's body, melting any kaiju foolish enough to be close
I'm pretty sure our jaeger would just be a giant foot because we ran out of money.
came across another good one [t]http://24.media.tumblr.com/76195d8e23216284545b5f6e2a760625/tumblr_mqq7inLpNd1spj5ddo4_1280.png[/t] [t]http://31.media.tumblr.com/8a584cb67cc33d10303bcafe5baad754/tumblr_mqq7inLpNd1spj5ddo6_250.gif[/t]

I went to see the movie twice, 3d films in the cinima arn't there yet to have the same crisp colors as the 2d. I found I could better appreciate the part that were rendered with rain in 2d. Also I don't know if it's been shown in this thread but has people seen the prop videos that were made by legacy effects?
