But theres no reason for a sequel. [sp] the badguys got literally vaporized[/sp]
What? the nuclear explosion couldn't have destroyed the entire planet, and even if it did, I'm extra sure that they have settlements on other dimensions, with their own dimensional portals.

But regardless, what are they gonna do? Open more rifts? At some point it just gets stupid. If you open more than one rift, you downplay the importance of the rift itself. If you send tons of lizards, then the value of the individual lizard is downplayed and it turns into S2 code geass where they regularly vaporize 250+ mechs and don give a shit, when S1 had smaller engagements and more individual importance.

Okay, new twist: We open a rift to one of their dimensions and constantly put in a flow of Jaegers.
Ironic payback with tons of action :v:
just have them send a really really really really fuckbighuge one so that you can vaporize 250+ mechs without downplaying the lizard's value as a monster hoho

Make the sequel the Jaegers vs. Godzilla.
I thought he said that the sequel could feature a Jaeger/Alien mix. Something like they fused with the explosion with the robot parts.
could that mean that we could be getting biomech/cyborg kaiju too?
could that mean that we could be getting biomech/cyborg kaiju too?
Yeah thats what i was trying to say. I just couldnt word it right.

yes, two rifts instead of one, like the old two death star plot for return of the jedi. or one big ass rift that can fit multiple kaiju at a time.
every event will now be a double event and eventually there'll be 16 kaiju vs whatever remaining jaegers there are.

So... 16 kaiju vs nothing because all the jaegers were destroyed by the end.

Because you obviously cant build more.

because the project was defunded in the first half hour of the movie and then the rift got closed. Why would they fund it further? the need for them literally exploded.

you're forgetting that the "miracle wall" that they built was destroyed in seconds like it never had a chance.
it's obvious that when more kaiju come out, more jaegers will be built.

At the point that Gypsy Danger was refitted, the rest of the movie took place in less than 2 days time, at the end of which the Kaiju rift was closed, ending the invasion. Why would they build more jaegers if there is no more threat?

you haven't been reading up on the sequel have you?
guillermo already confirmed kaiju/jaeger hybrids
I think that, in addition to cyborg Kaiju, the aliens should totally send spacecraft through the rift, as the ultimate tribute to giant monster movies.
Imagine it; Jaegers vs Mecha Kaiju vs Earthly Aircraft vs Flying Saucers.
And then they tease a Godzilla crossover after the credits.
you haven't been reading up on the sequel have you?

No, no I haven't. I dunno how they're gonna canon it, but oh well more giant robots.
I just got back from seeing this for the second time at the 2-dollar theater.
And I was thinking of a possibility for a sequel, but now I'm 99% sure the actual sequel will be nothing like this.
My idea was that before the attack on the rift, there were maybe a couple kaiju sent out who had a kind of "stealth" adaptation, so they couldn't be detected on radar. Like maybe a male and female category 5. Then they lay low in the ocean for a while, makin babies, then when they're finally discovered somehow, there's a whole new scramble to build more jaegers.
I guess it's not the best idea, but it's one possible justification for a sequel that wouldn't just be "the same thing but bigger and betterer."

Wouldn't you build a jaeger or two just in case it happened again so you wouldn't be defenseless?
Wouldn't you build a jaeger or two just in case it happened again so you wouldn't be defenseless?
Seeing how pants-on-head retarded the world leaders were when they tried building a wall instead of funding the Jaeger program, even when it was proven not to work, chances are they won't until Kaiju start appearing again.

they should really release some models or a toyline
i'd love to have gipsy danger or cherno alpha sitting on my shelf
also wtf i had no idea they made a game
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pacific_Rim_(video_game)
it must suck if it wasn't advertised that well, though i can't imagine killing kaiju as a jaeger sucking at all. this looks like a classic arcade fighter.
I never seen the far left one before.
Tactic Ronin, it was a Gen 1 shown in a flashback at the beginning for like 3 seconds

The primary criticism that I heard is that for a game based on a movie where things moved somewhat slowly, the game moves too quickly. Go watch a vid, you'll know what I mean.

In introduction of movie
ninja'd
Though this awesome image is missing two other Jeagers that were in the introduction/flashbacks :c

But there is a threat. Jaegers are an amazing piece of military technology. And there are threats, still. Syria threatens Israel, Chechens threaten Russia, terrorists threaten America. Etc.
No, they won't be fighting Kaiju, but that doesn't mean they're not going to be used.

The Jaegers would most likely be garbage against anything that isn't a Kaiju. Just aim for the legs or head with a few missiles and down she goes.

yeah i watched a gameplay video
i mean the guy who made it wasn't fantastic at the game but i can tell it's a little clunky and could use some work.
but i think i'd still enjoy it just because it's pacific rim.
