Transformers: Dark of the Moon
well not exactly but kind of.
Transformers: Robots disguise themselves as cars and have their own personalities, then fight with other robots
This: Aliens threaten earth so humans (I'm assuming) build mechs and combat the aliens.
There's no similarity at all aside from the threat factor. That's like saying Transformers is the same as Terminator.
How so? It shows that they took the feedback and applied it to the movie...I'd be put off if they DIDN'T change it according to what people recommend to them.
Lol, reshoots cost money. That's why you have pre-production, to get your shit together. When production starts, meaning filming, you should only be shooting(and therefore spending money) ONLY what was decided in pre-production for the most part.
To have to go back later and shoot some more means a fuckup has happened. Either the script was the problem or the actual filming(poor direction, cinematography, etc) was bad. To have to reshoot because of what test audiences say is even worse in my opinion, it means you were way off on your concept of what would work. It usually means the project was fundamentally flawed from the start, there is no way to fix that. The most they could do is film some jump scares or other things like that, edit those into the movie, and hope for the best.
There are exceptions of course. Jaws had reshoots and the movie came out great. Except the Jaws reshoots were mostly due to technical problems, not conceptual problems.

I think horror might be Del Toro's strong suite. I didn't think much of his work in Hellboy, but looking at certain sections of Pan's Labyrinth suggests that he might have a certain flair for horror movies that the genre has been desperately needing for some time.

Very true. Its why I'm looking forward to Insane slightly. Knowing he's going to be handling it is comforting at least on aspects like the storytelling etc.
I remember seeing comments on IMDB saying it looked shit. I was already hyped just from hearing Guillermo talk about it.
At The Mountains of Madness IS NOT DEAD.
Keith Thompson(An amazing concept artist), blogged about it here on April 4th, 2011:
All of the artists' works featured here are, of course, not from the film's production.
Thompson is a great artist and his style would definitely work in a Lovecraft movie.

Just got back from seeing it, it's really worth seeing. Go do it
I shall try.
I didn't think it was scary or creepy at all.
The main problems are that the creatures, which you see a lot of, are not very intimidating. For instance [sp] the little girl herself squishes two of them! What kind of scary monster gets squashed by a kid?[/sp]
The other problem is the inconsistent behavior. This is one of those movies where the bad guy works fast when the characters affected are not the important characters. Then, for no reason I can see, the bad guys operate much slower when the main characters are in danger.
It's a well made movie. The acting and directing are fine, it's just there are no scares to be found. In fact, what would have been the biggest jump scare in the movie is given away in the trailer, so when it happens in the movie there it's not that good.
