An upcite system is a terrible idea and will just create an echo chamber effect.
If we had a system in place to filter away comments and threads based on what we actually want to see, instead of the arbitrary wait period and useless sticker ratings, then the community wouldn't have to police itself in order to find out exactly
This is an absolutely terrible idea. When given the ability to silence opinions and 'things' they don't like people tend to create a personal echo chamber. You don't even need an active community of people on a particular subforum, just the ability to hide dissenting opinions allows the creation of an echo chamber, you see it on twitter and tumblr, and they don't have grouping features like a forum or reddit. It isn't even an active or intentional thing most of the time, just people who get fed up seeing things that annoy them eventually block enough people they disagree with to form an organic echo chamber. That's why I have a personal rule to never block anybody. I may get annoyed, frustrated, or even angry at times, but I'm not going to run the risk of creating a world where my point of view isn't challenged.
When it comes to unpopular opinions, facepunch can seem like a hivemind. But I really think it depends on the tone of the thread - sometimes a topic that would otherwise just end up with "are you dumb" strikes a particular chord and gets debated. I really don't think facepunch is a hivemind; it may appear so to users like biowaster, because he's really out there, but I find myself often agreeing with a user on one point and then later vehemently oppose them on another.
I don't see anything wrong with bull fighting but everyone in sensationalist headlines is vehemently against it.
I don't see anything wrong with bull fighting but everyone in sensationalist headlines is vehemently against it.
Yeah I can't see anything wrong with repeatedly stabbing a cow until it eventually bleeds out either.
Implying that the FP crowd and the reddit crowd are different people. Ha. As an exercise, I wanted to see the top 5 most active forums on FP Open Beta. Leaving aside Rust, looks like furries, shitposters and potheads use it a lot. Considering the vast amount of furry avatars and shitposters on the forum, it's not surprising.
That's because they've been rallying for custom subforums return for a while now, while everyone else already have their own megathreads in normal FP to post in.
Facepunch isn't a hivemind. It's a circlejerk. Before the rise of neoconservatism and tumblrism, facepunch was incredibly liberal. If you posted anything trump says in sensationalist headlines in 2012 you'd get shit on so bad and possibly banned for preaching hateful rhetoric. I'm a liberal, and I must admit that it was pretty much a liberal circlejerk full of jerks who would circle their prey. Lots of liberal posters were top notch shitposters that would make you look like an absolute fucking fool if you posted anything that was right of center. I'm talking about the Sanius Squad (The original using-SJW-as-an-insult): Owndered, thisispain, sanius(rip my spelling?), and others. But they were banned for shitposting when discussing social issues. Really the only people who've I've ever seen on FP who do that sort of thing anymore is Big Dumb American, Starpluck, and fruxodaily but it's incredibly rare now since the vocal majority of posters are no longer subscribed to left wing ideals and those people would get flamed on the spot for doing any of that. I don't know what to call facepunch political demographic anymore. It's certainly not liberal anymore. You get shit via insults like "SJW" if you say anything liberal when discussing politics. To be honest, if someone gets away with dismissing and disregarding your points using buzzwords like "SJW" or "RACIST", then there is something terribly wrong with the community; If using buzzwords like that becomes the norm, then it's not worth participating in that community. This really goes for all buzzwords or similar tactics of bullshitery. It's disappointing that this sort of thing happens. It makes me think less of the community if criticisms/opinions are greeted with buzzwords or other non arguments. For example: Dislike GradeAUnderA? HIVEMIND. Have liberal views? SOCIAL JUSTICE WARRIOR. Dislike a video about facepunch? BUTTHURT. (This one was especially shameful because it involved a moderator.) This makes me worry for fp's community especially with the upcoming user-created subforum-based forum. I don't trust any members of the community to moderate fairly and justly, especially when it comes to boards circulated around opinions. It's the reason why I made a "Banned" Subforum,; people need to have the option to express and expose bias in forums. This is what facepunch will look like in the future.
Would be nice if you came with actual examples, like threads and posts where it happens, because this doesn't seem to happen as much as you think it happens. Most of Facepunch are more moderate than extreme liberal. Also, that video about Facepunch that you disliked, was it the one where your first post in that thread was this:
this seems incredibly egotistical, among other things
?
Allow Austin Powers Puns in Sensational Headlines again, Everyone will be too busy shitposting to have baby fights and circle jerks, all problems solved.
Allow Austin Powers Puns in Sensational Headlines again, Everyone will be too busy shitposting to have baby fights and circle jerks, all problems solved.
Mojo week was the best thing to ever happen to SH.

You've pointed out some general examples but kinda failed to link threads or posts or give specific examples to support your point, while seemingly doing what you don't like (again, feel free to point out where I'm wrong if I'm just missing the point somewhere).
I would be willing to bet at least £100 that I am the only neoconservative on Facepunch if defining the word properly.
I'm sorry if I'm misunderstanding, but isn't the part I bolded the exact same thing you're doing by calling Facepunch a circlejerk?
No. When I'm referring to circlejerk, I'm referring to a community of people where if you say anything they don't like, they will shit on you. If you say stuff they like, they'll jerk you off. Ofc not every member of facepunch is part of this circlejerk, but it's a huge problem where people blindly follow others. Yes, it's hypocritical, not as hypocritical as you think. I'm calling out the people who use a buzzword to dismiss opinions via buzzword, not calling them out for having a different opinion. I love people's opinions, I wish that they would express them more. I even go to a chat where there's a neoconservative who discusses political issues, and I love to hear how he views things.
You've pointed out some general examples but kinda failed to link threads or posts or give specific examples to support your point, while seemingly doing what you don't like (again, feel free to point out where I'm wrong if I'm just missing the point somewhere).

Would be nice if you came with actual examples, like threads and posts where it happens, because this doesn't seem to happen as much as you think it happens. I'll save all any any posts involving buzzword name calling from now on.
Can't even make a joke if someone could have died these days. Man, these SJWs are totally ruining FP.
Pointed out that joking about a dead person was tasteless, must be social justice warriors.
You get this genuinely upset at stuff in the TES thread all the time.
Someone had a breakdown about ghostbusters via blog post. Pointed out that if you get this upset then you need to step back. Someone claimed I do the exact same in the Elder Scrolls Thread thing but no one has provided any evidence whatsoever, yet people just agreed with the person who called me out because they needed a reason to put me below them. 1 person pointed this out (god bless him) and no one cared. Another problem with fp is that no one bothers to do their own research. Happens a lot with Sensationalist headlines. Someone posts a piece of information and everyone is like "THIS IS GOOD AND FLAWLESS" and it turns out that the information is 1 click away from being incredibly wrong, usually because they didn't bother to read the source.
Also, that video about Facepunch that you disliked, was it the one where your first post in that thread was this?
Yes. This should be admitted another example of people claiming the other person is upset because they don't have the same opinion. Some people didn't find it funny and according to most members in those threads, they were apparently upset and were trying to defend the GMF or something, which is like... what?

The posts are pretty much saved for you, all you need to do is find them, which shouldn't be so hard. Considering that Facepunch is largely - Pro marijuana - Pro LGBT rights - Pro freedom of choice - Supports Bernie Sanders, and are annoyed that he lost - Pro women serving in the military - Just pro women's rights in general - Has a pretty strong dislike of Donald Trump - And so on I'll gladly see those recent examples, they should be much easier to find. What a shameful event this has turned out to be now that a moderator has joined the discussion
i have truly brought shame to the glorious facepunch name

I brought it up because it was relevant. To be honest I forgot about it until someone else brought it up in another thread. Also, endlessly complaining? 2 posts about the video isn't endlessly complaining. Yeah it's a harmless joke. Doesn't affect anyone, but that doesn't mean it's immune from criticism. Mentioning how the video was unfunny isn't a overreaction, people's "NO FUN ALLOWED" "YOU'RE JUST BUTTMAD" was an overreaction. And really I potentially overreacted to the title. I don't know which mod did it, and I don't know the intention of the mods when they did it. If they did it for humor then I wouldn't care, if they did it because they genuinely believe that I was upset then that just makes me sad. Before that happened, I've seen other moderators change the titles of threads to flaunt his beliefs and insult users so I didn't know what to think.
Is that really that prevalent?
