I ask again, how does criticising a video equal an overreaction?
https://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1517719 This thread has plenty of examples of criticisms. You didn't really elaborate anything, and you basically went full defence mode when called out on it. That's kinda overreacting
If you take away what makes video funny it's suddenly not funny anymore? I've been so blind all my life.
That's the point I was trying to make. It's only funny because facepunchers were on it. I do agree that it is mostly my fault for not being clear enough initially. I don't know how it would've went down if I simply elaborated in the start.
The actual person what? If you post some half assed argument for why something is something, how can you not expect to make people disagree with you? It doesn't seem to be about being upset despite you thinking it
My tactic for arguing, which I've changed as a result of other arguments, is to express an short-form opinion. If anyone cares about that claim or wishes to argue it, I express my entire view. It's better to check who actually gives a fuck instead of wasting time writing up a long post that nobody gives a fuck about. It failed in this sense because I made the opinion, attempted to elaborate it but no one really gave a shit about it because they were focused on the fact that it was made out of spite or something, and I was stuck arguing over it being opinion. [editline]11th July 2016[/editline]
Well good call coming here to call out the entire forum over silly shit like the reaction your posts 2 weeks back got :ok:
One example out of 3. If people are denying the credibility of that example, should I remove it then? It's clear that people are only focussing on that, instead of much other examples.
Because you called a silly austin powers edit joking about how serious people take GMF 'incredibly egotistical' lol. That's such a ridiculous stretch so no shit it got a negative reaction.
I didn't think it was :)
https://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1517719 This thread has plenty of examples of criticisms. He asked for criticisms and the majority of people agree that it isn't a well made video. I agree that I overreacted to the people saying that I was only doing it because I was mad or some shit, I wasn't overreacting to the video itself. I went full defense mode because people were simply dismissing the opinion simply because "lol u mad", which is annoying as fuck. I should've just fucked off as soon as people started pulling claims out of their ass.
you overreacted to something merely harmless and got laughed out, you are pathetic little baby
Again, who cares if the video is harmless? A piece of entertainment being harmless is irrelevant.

Who really cares if it's been done before in this sense? It's not a super serious piece of cinematography. I wouldn't call that attempting to elaborate. I mean you had plenty of time to elaborate what you meant, but most of it was spend calling other people upset (or whatever this was supposed to be.) Your whole argumentation style seems to be an attempt to fire zingers, really.
Entirely different situations. internet drama lmao go get laid nerds
You're taking things too literally dude. It's a silly video of an in joke for a forum, it's like complaining about the acting being over the top in children's television
Really I think this whole thing boils down to this. I take things too seriously. I'll stop now, and see what I can do about myself.
More on topic to the actual thread, the thing which tends to discourage me from posting is the effort which is often required to get reasonable discussion going (largely referring to SH). People tend to get defensive in debates, and either straw man or mix personal attacks into their argument, and then quite often people retaliate with their own. I find that if I can be bothered to not take the bait for the first few posts and be reasonable, quite often people will realise that you're actually going for an honest discussion and be more sensible, but if no one is willing to do that it escalates, making the environment hostile, especially for opposing viewpoints. Flash and I, for instance tend to have very different political views, but I tend to like debating with him because we discuss the issue, not the other person's mental state. On the other hand, some other posters have either constantly resorted to straw man arguments, for instance taking "this technology doesn't work well enough to entirely replace existing ones" as "this technology doesn't exist/should never be used", or personal attacks, e.g. calling me 'delusional' rather than refuting my points (both examples from posting in the past few days). This is pretty discouraging for anyone looking for genuine discussion and can leave a thread with only the people for whom flame wars or disingenuous self congratulation are fun if no one is willing to make the effort. The opinion expressed at the start of the thread can dictate where the thread goes because people with contradictory opinions can't be bothered to argue there way through the pile of shit which has already grown. I've seen times where two threads on the same topic in the same week turn into opposite circle jerks because of this. Short of the old Mass Debate rules, there's little which can really be done about this, seen as it's unlikely that the general attitude of internet posters will be changed by one post.
I feel like a lot of rules here on based on moderator's dislikes.
It's like you read all the rules, and suddenly there's like five times more that you can't read about. Every time a member register it's like a lurking test account for 6 months. imo
Facepunch is just like any other place, physical or digital. Everyone has their own opinion; it's just that a majority of some degree have a similar opinion. The real problem here is that each individual has a fairly low tolerance of opinions that conflict with their own, and that rather then expressing disagreeance with the conflicting opinion, they simply state that the opinion is wrong and stupid. This applies everywhere else; there will be people who do this no matter where you go. It's just that it's a lot worse here than other places.
I think FP can be far too liberal at times but this is most big forums on the internet. Kinda annoying how I've seen some well presented non-cray opinions in SH but they get called out because it's not a left leaning point of view. i.e the whole Brexit thing for the UK, no one wants to acknowledge that it has potential even if it's the vote most of us didn't want.
Honestly, compared to other online communities, Facepunch isn't that bad.
Everyone circlejerks about the metric system and I am a proud imperial using American. That's about the angriest I've gotten at this forum.
Everyone circlejerks about the metric system and I am a proud imperial using American. That's about the angriest I've gotten at this forum.
But the metric system is better for everything other than convenience of words like "Miles of road" and "Pounds of pussy". The argument that an inch is easier to approximate than a centimeter isn't even a strong one, considering that you can only approximate an inch so well because you grew up using the measure. Also stones as a measure of weight is just absurd. Can we at least agree on that? Please?
My foot isn't 1 foot long either.

don't know about a hive mind, i barely ever go on muslim related SH threads anymore because they always end up being xenophobes and xenophiles bitching at each other, or shooting threads that just end up being pro-guns vs anti-guns, actual arguments be damned sometimes. like see the truck attack thread? i just read the main article and then got out of the thread and haven't gone back since, just from the Events Log i can tell it's an authentic, completely predictable shitfest in there with people getting banned for flaming and shitposting all over the place because no one knows how to argue. the people that scream hivemind are just angry that their opinion isn't the majority's opinion or they perceive it as such and it's honestly just shitposting [editline]15th July 2016[/editline] i welcome the new forum because it means the shitposters will just hide away in their ecochambers and maybe we'll have more decent arguments on the main forums because of that
