That and the production is much more sparse feeling than their earlier and later work, though granted it was very rushed
So I take it hardcore Opeth fans don't like it?
Also I'm back from my grandparents house
IIRC they were going to release this and Deliverance as a double album but decided against it.
Yeah, it definitely feels like a double album. But even as songs go, there's not a great deal of variation or contrast within them, at least on Damnation. Deliverance is weird because it's meant to be heavy, but it still has very soft parts :v:

Not necessarily, I like it, I just don't think it's particularly great
It's not their best release but still good.
[editline]20th March 2011[/editline]
Yeah I agree with you there, it's quite repetitive honestly. There's very little variation.
Orchid and Watershed are the only Opeth albums I don't like. Watershed has a few good songs but it's the proof they're going mainstream, and bad. Orchid is just lame :frown:
Orchid is just lame :frown:
Was gonna listen to that too.
I'll probably end up thinking both are amazing :smug:

Wot. It's like the least accessible album they've made, with the exception of Burden and Porcelain Heart. Oh and Coil
Orchid is also fucking fantastic
Orchid is bloody amazing
old Opeth is fantastic. Very different but still very very good.
I'd say deliverance was the least accessible due to the consistently long track lengths.

Porcelain fucking heart, seriously now.
I don't understand what that post was trying to say
Goddammit.

This album is just too good. I just can't stop listening to it. I'm paranoid that it's going to follow me to the grave at this point.
I'm okay with that dot jay peg
Gonna listen to some megadeth on my way to school today
I don't understand what that post was trying to say
Clearly he was going to say how it was a great track but started to listen to it and forgot to finish his post
Well, you can't deny that Opeth are becoming mainstream. He does have a point.
It's fun how people who catch what I'm listening to on my mp3 player on the bus sometimes make wierd faces.
They obviously don't like Moist Vagina by Nirvana.
Yeah it's true that they are (for a metal band who don't play mallcore or nu metal at least) but they're still geniuses and bloody brilliant :smug:
Caarle, I might just have to make you listen to Orchid next time we choose an album. (not really no)
Well, you can't deny that Opeth are becoming mainstream. He does have a point.
They're gaining mainstream popularity, but it seems like a great disservice to Watershed to call it a "mainstream" album.

Probably, but note that "mainstream" doesn't have to mean pop.
I was walking past this tea room today:

When a metalhead came out of it wearing a tshirt bearing this album cover (nsfw):

I just burst out laughing.
I also think media tags are broken

Mike Akerfeldt's probably going to take that into the opposite direction soon, since the next Opeth album's apparently going to be like Damnation.
Nah I'm sure he said the next album is going to be heavier?
I watched a thing on youtube with Mikael and Steven Wilson talking about new releases from each of them and Mikael said Opeth's new album is gonna be heavier.
Wasn't that in reference to his solo album? I haven't heard much about the next Opeth release to be fair. Though on thinking about it, if Throat of Winter was anything to go by, it'll still be good most likely :v:
Either way, Storm Corrosion is out this year too, so if Opeth doesn't tide me over then an Opeth/Porcupine Tree crossover sure will :buddy:
Is Opeth's new album actually set to come out this year?
I really hope Opeth tour the UK in support of their new album. It looks like I'm not going to Sonisphere anymore so I won't see them this year unless they do tour. :ohdear:
God yes I hope they do :gizz:
Also they started to record January 31st according to Wikipedia so from that I assume the writing's finished at least and I doubt it'll take 11 months to do all that shit and release it
So hopefully it should be out this year :slick:
Wasn't that in reference to his solo album?
Whoops, yeah it probably was. All the details I really remember from it are "Steve Wilson", "collab", "Damnation" and "frustrated metalheads who want heavy stuff".
Mike Akerfeldt and Steve Wilson can do no wrong :pcgaming:
You know, Amon Amarth's cover of SOAD's Aerials is way better than I thought it would do.
