Basically, oil was burned in large tanks that have been removed from the site. The oil heats water which turns into steam, which turns a turbine. A generator turns the kinetic energy from the turbine into electrical energy, and then the electrical energy is supplied to a power grid. I think.
I think he is talking about the lighting, not the workings of the power plant.

Ahh, fuck. Well for some reason, the plant still seems to be connected to a power grid.
That first picture could be taken straight out of a HL2 mod or even some Mirror's Edge 2 type shit :v:.
Awesome pictures dude, I always get jealous whenever one of these threads pop up because I'd love to get into urban exploration but there aren't any places nearby worth checking out, that and I'm still young and lack the means to get out there and do this sort of thing.

There's always somewhere nearby, you just have to look harder. Even if it's not an abandoned building there's always something. I know you're in Australia but have a look at this site.
You can get a good idea of the range of different places people go to. You must have something like one of those places nearby!
I am familiar with this forum, but thanks anyway ^^. And nah I shouldn't say there're no places at all; A bunch of friends and I have explored abandoned houses, one abandoned school (which we found a looot of cool shit in, but ended up getting in trouble with the police for, long story >_>), a few rooftops, as well as numerous drain pipes. I'm sure there are even more interesting sites further out from where I live, so one day I'll definitely go scouting with a bunch of friends. I'd really love to check out some of the more traditional sites such as industrial buildings or hospitals or even asylums, that'd be fucking awesome.

Unfortunately, I didn't have a camera so I don't have any pictures. :saddowns: It was pretty awesome though, still regret not having it. Also, I didn't have a mask, and there was a very noticeable mold odor. Not too smart in hindsight.
Then the police found us and we explained what we were doing. They just gave us a slap on the wrist and let us go. First time I had ever been confronted by a group of officers, and I was scared shitless since I had no idea what to expect. Was relieved that they let us go.
Then the building was finally torn down a couple years later.
I love industrial places at nights/evenings. It makes me have a cold fuzzy feeling. It's just awesome.
Its fairly clean for 20+ years of abandonment.
I understand it was maintained until 2005, so I'm assuming it was cleaned regularly until then.
I wish there was a place like this near me.
mostly just empty warehouses
i know you pushed buttons but you shoulda turned power on to some machines, and then pushed the buttons, to see if shit would start. woulda been awesome but probably woulda been caught

Sure, let's turn random things on in a power station that's been abandoned for 20 years even though whatever generated the power likely has no fuel/coolant!

Why not?

and? no fuel means no explosions. no coolant means stuff will just shut off or break. nothing is going to explode.
What was inside those binders you where reading?
I wish I could do stuff like that, but I don't have anyone to go with. :saddowns:

we live close to each other you know
but idk if i would be up to such a thing lol

I don't know because it wasn't me reading it
It's all scheduled for demolition. Are there any plans to go in and take out equipment worth saving?
I love industrial things like this, an endless labyrinth of heavy metal; pipes, wires, catwalks, and containers leading every which way.
and? no fuel means no explosions. no coolant means stuff will just shut off or break. nothing is going to explode.
Even if it were possible, risking breaking shit is a stupid idea especially when the shit you might break is extremely expensive industrial machinery which was maintained until so recently that they may even be able to repurpose/reuse elsewhere.

Yes

aka easy to get lost?:v:
Why do most of those pictures remind me of the first part of Portal 2?
It looks like a lost level from HL2 with all this outdated machinery and electronics abandonded in the middle of nowhere.
only power stations near me are nuclear
meaning there are NRC guards (contractors prolly) with automatic weapons at the entrance
oh well.

operations manuals
full of engineering schematics n stuff

no power is probably provided to the control panels... doubt there's a switch that will turn on that would power the relays and stuff that control the machinery, you would have to fuel and start an auxiliary genny
